When your village people are on your case and your mother's prayer is not strong enough.......

After a brief stop over at the ministry of commerce on Monday morning, I headed to a company I had worked for some years ago.

That was my first time of visiting the company years after my resignation. This time, I was there to assist with CV review/interview.

We reviewed the CV and cover letters of 30 applicants and only 5 were selected.

Reason why the others were tossed into the bin? Your guess is as good as mine.

It wasn't about spelling errors or wrong use of tenses. That could be pardoned.

It was the consistent use of abbreviations. It was damn too much, I felt ashamed for the applicants.

One of the selected five, a young man of 29, stood out completely in regards to experience and expertise according to the records on his CV.

So we placed a call across to this gentleman and that was how he lost the job.

A female voice answered his call, and the lady(my colleague) on the interview panel responded... "good afternoon, my name is *******, I'm calling to speak with ##### in respect to his job application at $$$$$, can you please put him on the phone for a quick interview?"

That was the moment hell let loose. The female voice on the other end went berserk on the caller...

..."is this the new way of snatching boyfriends these days? Interview ba wo? Stupid olosho, you will not goan get your own man. You think you're smart? Your format is dry. You'll just die miserably. Jobless ashewo"

The phone was on speaker while all these was going on. Immediately, I reached to the red button and ended the call.

That was how the gentleman lost his opportunity.

Who knows how long he's been praying for that moment?

Who knows how much he has sacrificed to get to that point?

Just a wrong choice in association, and he lost a rare chance.

===================

Young man, be careful with your circle. Be very mindful of who you align with. Do not let the stupidity of one unfortunate being, ruin your chances of achieving your goals.

Don't let two minutes of pleasure, rob you of your much desired ambition.

Your dreams are bigger than orgasm.

Guard your loins. Leave no loose ends. Get sense small. Think with your head, not with your Courtois.

Guy man no be the person wey him babe porsche pass. Guy man is a guy who's steady getting it and has a lady who supports his big dreams and ambitions without emotional sentiment.

Remember, your dreams are bigger than orgasm.

If u guys really want him to get the job due to his work experience, u could ve simply send him an sms. After all u guys knew that the person that picked up his call wasn't the owner of the number. As the gf was ranting on the phone, a male could have answered her so that she will knw the job stuff is real and she could have apologized. You guys didn't play ur part well

The damage is already done
They will quickily move to the next candidate and not that employers chooses the way that is convenient for them to communicate applicants. And again most calls from corperate offices u can't easily call back if u havw worked in a place like that before u ll understand.

What happened to text message or calls? Una no just get job wey to give out ni jare.

On a more serious note, I think most HR personnel are not doing enough. Let's look at that guy's case from another angel. Let's assume the guy was charging his phone somewhere other than his home due to PHCN issues and he had to leave his phone there to charge. If the HR calls that moment he is away and nobody picks am sure the HR person will still find a way of blaming the guy for not picking his phone at that crucial moment the HR person wont hesitate writing a piece like the one above to tell us how unserious job seekers don't pick calls too.

All these would've been avoided sending a text msg and or mail which can be accessed and replied to immediately he picks his phone.

HR make una dey pity job seekers too. Na person born them too o.

There ought to be lines in every human relationship. There are boudaries that shoudnt be crossed. Even if she is the breadwinner, shn ought to have exercised some caution.
Anyways, na as u lay ur bed, na so u go lie ontop.
The man in questn has not clearly defined his relationship wit the lady in question.

Bro, the guy was partly right. Trust me, I often wonder how HRMs in Nigeria don't sometimes put themselves in the shoes of applicants. See, bro, nobody is perfect; and sometimes one might have acted perfectly but circumstances would still, at all, not help him/her.

Now, I'm not saying the guy has done well, leaving his phone in the hand of an uncultured lady.

But, ideally, the "interview call" thing was too sudden. If the employers were interested in getting best guy (not the lucky guy), they should have left a message for him, informing him of a potential interview with them.

The job of every hr person is getting and maintaining the best talents possible for the firm; but I beg to say that the robotic system being used by these suppose talent managers in recruitment of talents is far from being right.

They should remember that they are dealing with humans; not robots.

Most of you are just wrong including the OP. In civilised clime, you send a message or mail as a recruiter to an applicant requesting to know the best time you can call for an interview.

Most HR personnel in this country are mad including the OP. You just don't start calling people at any time for a phone interview not considering the fact the person might be in the market or a very noisy place.

You mind them? They are fast to call people lazy, unserious, unemployable and all without knowing their story.

It's actually not their fault but the unemployment crisis we have in Nigeria.

Where I work presently, I got it via text msg. I was writing an aptitude test elsewhere and my phone was on silent when I was called.

I met about 3 missed calls and a text msg on my phone asking to set an agreed interview date. I called immediately and we agreed a date and the rest as they say is history. My department won the best department that year I joined.(In other words; It was a win-win for myself and the organization I joined because my department became more productive and I got a platform to launch my career)

If they had acted like these guys here they would've accused me of being lazy and unserious without even knowing me

Not making excuse for anybody, just saying HR end up losing the best candidates through useless standards they set.

Thats what you get when you re in a country like this
Where a job with one small stipend ll be so competitive to the extent that oga at the top must certify you. See wen i was looking for job my God father told me that i shud not give any HR the opportunity of screening me out because there re so many peeps looking for that same opportunity u seek.

In as much as people have been giving excuses, I feel if it had been communicated with the applicants during the job placement about a phone interview, that alone will make the applicant hold their phones closer.
This is not about excuse, basically most organizations in the country hardly have phone interview with applicants (though lesson learnt), just a pity the applicant has/had an unreasonable lady.

Even if the guy had an emergency that had to do with life/death the HR will still tell us stories here.
As HR personnel, their is actually nothing wrong in asking what time suit every applicant best in terms of phone interview.

It's just a pity we are in a country governed by Buhari

What happens to sending a message or email to schedule a call first. You don't just call people at anytime because you want to offer them a job. Not justifying what happened with the lady that picked, but you (HR) should be more professional with your work.
Re: How A Young Man Lost A Job Opportunity by goldenceo1: 11:21pm On Apr 19, 2018
Typical oversabi HR attitude.

Let me share my little experience here with an awesome HR.

My sister ones had an online interview with an HR. Their mode of communication for the interview was by Skype. Both end agreed on a specify date and time and Lo and behold when it was time for the interview my laptop which was suppose to be used suddenly went blank omo devil they fall hand o.

Fast forward to the rush hour for the interview she resulted to used Skype through her android phone.
immediately the HR called and sense the poor audio quality, and position of the video chat she asked her if she's using phone and she said Yes. The HR quick asked her to switch over to phone call interview.. that's how she became calm and compose on the phone interview.

To God be the Glory she secured the job.
