This is one of the many fraud case within the health and local government board and the slave work we where made to do, they cared less about our health and sanity.

The measles program started on the 15TH of March with alimosho local government been the largest the first, we were split in this formation alimosho➡lg office➡ward➡vaccination team(consist of 2 nurse,2 recorder,1 crowd controller,1 announcer,1 spoke person)

in all of this, am still glad to be part of something big that all Nigerian children benefited from. thank you W.H.O

story in a bit

Before the d day we were trained on how best to carry out our duty ,we wrote a test as a recorder and were served a bottle of Pepsi nd 1 buns. the hall used was big but not enough to contain the crowd because most of them are party supporters(both very old, old and young) we were all looking for our daily bread.

Been my first time on the first day, I wore my best outfit to our meeting point at ward level, when I got there I saw 3 rickety bus (danfo)with banner hung on iT, the nurses even had disagreement because they were given a soap and a bowl to wash hand after each child vaccination because there was no adequate gloves....... there my brain told me I was in"naija" at that meeting point there were more than 10-15 vaccination team, the focal person who was in charge of that point gave us what they could provide for us and a target of 250 children under aged 5 per day but Before my team got vaccines the buses were already occupied and one out of 3 bus had brake failure immediately the driver ignited it hitting the building in front of it, I was grateful for them because it didn't happen on the road.

I got to know my team members and we set out trekking like Moses and the Israelites but not with rod but with a geostat that contains vaccines in it under the hot dry weather with no thermometer to validates its potency. We were also given a photocopied paper that represent our map of which am very sure was drawn by a 5year old in art class(if u follow am,persin go loss), this piece of paper includes our point and stops which mainly includes schools and worship centres with distance of at least 2km, this same paper indicated a bus as our mode of transport.
Through out the duty I was just cursing and swearing on my mind under the hot sun, if you touched my shirt....it looked like I just iron dried it, I walked till my legs ached still wondering how we will get 250 kids a day. I can't count the numbers of cold pure water me and my teammates drank even a certain woman gave us her zobo drink for free(May God bless her). I closed for the day with my collar stained cockroach brown.

May God protect the poor who depend on such free vaccines. I can't imagine the state of the vaccines and nurses themselves that will administer vaccines without hand-gloves at the very least.

Na real WA. I hope you guys used/use disposable needles undecided

OP so u were turning up unannounced in schools to vaccinate infants without parental consent. If so, this is criminally immoral and irresponsible of W.H.O. and the organisers. I regret you worked so hard and I pray the exercise is a resounding failure. Is there a calendar for the measles team to visit Awka in Anambra state so that I can be forewarned.
Were you visiting on school days? If so wouldn't worship centres have been largely empty?

I don't think there is a time table for it......there was announcement on radio's and we also had announcer who went about with mega phones, we visited on school days most schools rejected us....so we had to start threatening them

The next day,we followed the same routine but before we hit the road again, we removed the banner from one of the buses because we wanted to create more awareness after been rejected by most schools on our first day, we got to know later that the bus and driver were arrested by police and taken to their station because they did not beleive he was included in the measles campaign alas it was that banner that gave the bus immunity from police "wahala".
we trekked the whole community with vaccines under the hot dry weather only to be paid #6500 in april for the job done in March.
I am using this medium to call W.H.O and our Labour law to checkmate this slavery done to us by the lagos state.
They insulted our collective intelligence and made us work like slave to be paid peanuts.

please help me alert the mods.......the whole world need to hear our story

Don't be so sure biko.
1. Most private hospital source and get their own vaccines directly, outside the shores of Nigeria.

2. There are lots of vaccines that are not subsidized by the govt hence you can only get them from private hospitals.

3. Most vaccines need to be stored and administered straight off a cool box/ice cooler, considering the OP story to be true, I have my doubts.

4. Administering vaccines or handling syringe without hand gloves? :- Risky for both giver and receiver.

I don't think there is an childhood vaccine that is sold commercially any where , all of them are tightly control by UNICEF and WHO in highly subsidized donor back distribution programme .. Few companies in world make childhood vaccines and they all work in unison with the UN ..Believe me when I tell your posh Maitama doctor is actually selling You a free or subsidized vaccines source from a donor agency .

Rotavirus is sold in top pharmacies. Walk in to any and ask for it.

Rotavirus is not subsidized by WHO/UNICEF/FedGovt hence not free in 9ja.

Rotavirus is free and readily available in all health centers in Ghana.

Go figure.

And BTW, my initial point was not about the source of the OP's vaccine, twas about the general presentation and handling so this debate is frankly off topic smiley

Why blame Lagos state for the low pay? Was it not a WHO initiative? You should blame WHO for the pay and you should have properly ascertained the rate per hour or per day before starting work.

Sorry that WHO exploited you and others like this. I cannot understand how removing banner from one of the buses was meant to increase awareness.

I am blaming them because they exploited us, they know people will do the job even for 1k......other state pay as high as 15k-2ok, I know

If it was WHO initiative then they are the ones you should blame. They should have provided adequate funds for their campaign.
