@Sotaj, can you please confirm if I will be needing the FRSC letters in Alberta? I will be landing in Calgary next month and all my efforts to get the letter has been abortive. I have a valid Nigeria driver’s license. I can get an international drivers license if need be. Thank you in advance. grin

@KW01, you do not need any FRSC letters to apply for/ take both the knowledge and driving tests in Alberta. You only need your Naija license which will be taken from you for verification to confirm whatever driving years you are claiming (after you must have taken the knowledge test). If you have around 3 years driving experience, you may be eligible to take the full class 5 (advance) driving test upon satisfactory confirmation of your Naija driving experience. Otherwise, you will have to start from the learner (Class 7) then the class 5 (GDL Driver)
Albeit, the FRSC letters could be useful when shopping for your auto insurance premium rates. You could get lower quotes if the insurance company accepts driving experience from Naija (Only few insurance Companies do this).

I guess I was able to answer you to some extent.

Yes, you will be paying both ACCA and CPA membership if you want to continue maintaining their status.

Don't forget that failure to be in good standing with ACCA will cost you your CPA membership. So all fees and CPD reporting for ACCA must be a CONTINUUM grin

My brother, In Accounting, there is always need to conduct Cost-Benefit analysis in order to Justify an endeavour , so if the benefit outweigh the cost, why not ? cheesy ....

Will I also be paying CPA membership/subscription fee too ?

You can enrol your children anytime you land. The school they will attend will be the one in your catchment area except you want to go private or apply for boundary exemptions. If you already know the school you want them to attend, then you need to ensure you find a house within that area. Please check the school’s boundary map well and don’t assume as half of a street may be zoned to one school, while the other half is zoned to a different school.

For Catholic elementary schools in Ontario though, you need to show a Catholic baptismal Certificate either for the children or parent. It’s the secondary schools that accept non Catholics.

In some jurisdictions like London where I live, you don't have to show any baptismal certificate to enroll a child in a Catholic school.

I live in London as well and LDCSB requires baptismal certificates for registration. My kids are in a Catholic elementary school and we were asked to provide the certificates.

Hello family
I think I really need help now. Since over a year av been nursing the dream of relocating to canada but I have not been successful in my solo thoughts

I graduated with 2.2 mechanical engineering from a university here in nigeria. In the past 4yrs av been working in the banking industry.

I have checked possible routes on how to legally relocate but to no avail. I checked the canadian skilled migration rout but looks like my work history must align with course of study wch puts me at a disadvantage.

Currently am married and expecting a baby. I have saved a lot for this travel thing. But my problem seem to be lack of knowledge on different routs to take.

Recently, I was connected to an agent who helped a friend and her family to relocate since 4yrs ago. Agent is in Canada. I spoke with him and was charged up to $10,000 for the option am opting for. Do things like this still work?

Please kindly advise me here coz I really want to relocate.
Also, all advices should be dropped here. Tnx

Hmmmm.... Interresting
My kids go to Saint-Jean-De-Brebeuf, a French Catholic school.
Are your kids in an English school?
It is possible that the French and English Catholic schools arent under the same governing body or school board given that the baptismal certificate isn't required for the French schools.

English. And yes, it’s possible that the French immersion requirements are not the same. But I thought all are all under LDCSB?

Well, one has to make a decision. So far, there is no indication that the MRA with ACCA will be cancelled. I think CPA is enjoying the flow of funds coming in otherwise, why would CPA Ontario join CPA BC in accepting members outside Canada. They don't mind the yearly subscriptions and the fact that CPA membership is growing, that is what every accounting body wants even ACCA.

ACCA now has 4 exam diets in a year, and many people are completing more exam papers due to this flexibility. If you set your mind to do it, you will can complete it within a year plus.

I made mention of a friend who is taking this path, she has few papers to go, she is currently in Canny for soft landing.

Let everyone do what they are convinced to do and what works for them.

I haven't written CPA exams before, but I heard it is hard to pass and also a more expensive venture than ACCA (Please verify this, it's just hear say).

Did your friend verify with CPA if they will accept conversion from ICAN to ACCA?.
From cpa website “If you are a fully qualified member in good standing of an international accounting body listed below (obtained a membership through completion of the accounting body’s qualification process and not through a recognition agreement with another accountancy body) and obtained your designation while not a resident of Canada, you may have rights to certification in Canada through a legacy Reciprocal Membership Agreement (RMA). You may also have the right to practice public accounting through a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)“.

Thanks Bsbabe and TheCongo2 for chipping in! I've actually pored over ottawa's catholic school board website countless times and they clearly stated non catholics can attend but only after all the Catholic applicants have been considered.

Thanks again!

Hello All,

I need help in making a choice on which of these 3 schools to do my MBA program in. Memorial University, University of Manitoba and University of Windsor. I have gotten admission to the first 2, and awaiting response from Windsor. From my checks on the web the MBA from all 3 are ranked in the same category, so i can choose any based on standards. Cost wise Manitoba>Windsor>Memorial, with Windsor costing an additional 4M and Manitoba 8M approx compared to Memorial.

I am leaning towards Windsor based on the weather and location (would likely be coming with my family), but want to get input from those who are on ground if there is any other reason that should sway my choice towards Memorial or Manitoba. Your views are greatly appreciated.
Do you've a PR already? If no, please go to either Windsor(especially as a graduate student) or Manitoba as both guarantee you one post-graduation.
Goodluck!

I had this same issue for over a month till i called Gtb and was told i could not use a naira denominated card to make foreign online payments in naira.

The payment has to be in dollars, so i went to my google payment option and changed my location to America.

This made the app ask for payment in dollars instead of the former naira equivalent.

I was then able to successfully make payment.

Hello,

It's unfortunate that you work 12 hours a day, but if you are interested in Canada you will have to create time to read up some pages on Canada immigration.

You do not have to go back to Nigeria to be able to process your immigration to Canada, you can still do it while in UAE.

Researching on the immigration subject is a must except you want to pay an agent to do it for you, which is not also a guarantee that he/she will do it right. You may even be swindled in the process. In this thread we encourage DIY, and most of us are landed immigrants in Canada.

How about your weekends? this venture requires time with or without an agent, because you will need to study for your English Test (IELTS), the agent cant do that for you. You will have to follow up on your credential assessment especially if your degrees are from our wonderful country, Nigeria.

Wish you all the best!
