Students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the institution’s directive preventing students who had not paid their school fees from sitting for the ongoing first semester examination.

The students, who took to the Oye-Ikole highway, locked down the highway for hours before returning to the main gate of the institution to continue the protest.

One of the protesters, who spoke with newsmen said that some students were denied access to the examination hall on May 10 inspite of the fact that the deadline for the payment of school fees had not lapsed.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Godfrey Badji said that some students who had not fully paid their school fees were the ones protesting. He said;

According to him, the institution’s management had directed that those who had not completed payment of their school fees should not sit for the examination.

“While implementing this directive, some students who had not paid their school fees were not allowed to participate in the ongoing semester examination.

“This is the reason why those students affected have resorted to protest this morning,”

It can be recalled that FUOYE was closed down indefinitely by the school management after students of the institution clashed with Okada riders in the month of March.

Why wont they pay school fees?

Sometimes i even wonder how people will resume school and not pay fees till exam period.

In our days,you cannot get course form for the session without paying school fees and non submision of course means you did not register for the course,thus no results.

Make una try pay up to avoid all this things especially carry over

This is so dishearten, not only FUOYU like wise UNICAL. Many students were denied access to exam hall coz they are yet 2 pay their feez. The worst is that no more installment payment, this makes it difficult for some students who are struggling to make it make them selves to pay the fees before exam.

The country is very had to some parents, no need of denying for the exams, Federal government should also put it into consideration to reduce her school fees.

I understand that things are difficult in the country and that all hands are not equal, but make una pay school fees o. Will d school b running on air? If u want service, u have to pay for it. Before resumption of a new semester, getting funds should have been in one's plan. A relative of mine owns a school and most of d parents/Guardians don't want to pay, yet they scream when their kids/wards are sent back home.

If u want quality, you have to pay to get it.

College Education isn't free in any part of the world, we all know the econmy is hard, it shouldn't be an excuse, the time interval between day of resumption to date of exam is enough grace.
Protest is really not reasonable

Even Dr. Kayode Fayemi observed the protest while he was coming from ikole. It's sad that freshers pay as much as 106k excluding acceptance fee 35k, hostel fee 50k and nothing to show for it.


Road be like Sahara desert, no lecture halls. Nothing just dey the School.

Lol, do your research well, "tuition fee" is free, amongst all other breakdown of expenses. u still have to pay for other fees. Oh u feel u just pack your bags there n start school.

How will students pay school fee by installment?
We pay school fee for the whole session once and for all. You face your studies with no wahala.

The tuition fee is too much for freshers federal school for that matter. But, fuoye students like protest too much.

It is free because citizens pay about 50% of their income as tax. So is it really free?

Oh,you think education means the capacity to become employed or make money? Sorry for your disappointment.


The protest is very necessary because their parents are being owed backlogs of salaries and bonuses. You don't beat a child and tell him not to cry.



If education is valueless,try ignorance.

The Germans pay huge tax and give the admission to student who merit it unlike Nigeria where the admission goes to those willing to 'settle'.
