Located in North Central Africa Republic are the Azandes . Until the 20 th century , this ethnic group was highly respected as warriors and for their witchcraft.
Their belief in witchcraft and their Benge oracle determined their life ’s outcomes . It was such that when a termite -infested door fell and killed eight men , they blamed it on witchcraft.
The Azande people experienced a shortage of women , causing the available women to be given to the rich. Due to this , if a man had an interest in a boy between the ages of 12 and 20 , he paid a bride price of five spears to have him . Fornication with a bachelor ( aparanga) meant mutilation or payment of twenty spears and a woman .
English anthropologist , E .E Evans-Pritchard states in his book
Witchcraft , Oracles and Magic Among the Azande and his essay Sexual Inversion among the Azande that the boy would become his lover ( badiare ) . The lover will , in turn , perform wifely roles of cooking , cleaning , keeping the house warm , speaking softly, making the bed and sexually satisfying the husband ( kumbami) .

This satisfaction came when the husband places his penis between the “boy wife ’s” thighs . This , they believed , will prevent them from desiring another man ’s wife .
Having a boy wife does not stop a man from getting married to a woman. This is because the service of the boy wife is mainly needed when the men go to wars .

A high ranking man is allowed to have more than one boy wife . Also , the death of a royal man means the burial of his boy wife.
When a boy wife becomes a man , his husband gives him spears and shields . If the husband treats the boy wife well , his parents will thank him by offering a girl to the husband as a wife.

It's very logical: a man made solution to a naturally caused problem.

Notice how they do gay things but no anal penetration. I doubt homophobic Caucasian Christians colonized them hence the continued acceptance of practices labeled gay. It was the same here pre-colonization, maybe even worse. Still Nigerians who have no idea of their history will claim homosexuality is not African culture.

This is one of the greatest ironical twists in African history.

Many precolonial African cultures normalised physical intimacy between members of the same gender. The women in Lesotho had something they called Motsoalle, where a woman would befriend another woman, and erotic behaviour between them was seen as normal. There are many other examples from right across the continent.

At the time the Europeans came here, they were aggressively homophobic. They set up colonial laws that criminalised same-sex expressions of intimacy. We inherited that attitude. Today the erstwhile homophobic west is moving in a very different direction, and the erstwhile "homo-tolerating" African societies are moving in the opposite direction. It's all very interesting.

It's part of the reason they do not respect us. We've decided to stay stagnant in the ways their forefathers taught us and not willing to evolve with them or revert back to our original way.

Take for instance the English language: the protocol I was taught is the same one which my grandfather was tutored. However the white man has long since modernized his, now adding formerly incorrect words and tenses into their daily usage.

This is why I always maintain that Ibos are not indigenous to West Africa, they migrated here.

Ibos have a similar practice. In fact notice the responses above from tolerant Ibos. grin

Anyway, this thread is not about Ibo.

Say No to tribalism!
Promise to make a difference!
We are all one big family!
