use the one you are comfortable with.
You can search for their features comparisons on Google to see the one you think will suit you.

Like @melody rightly advised, choose the one u r most comfortable with and develop on it. Just to make things a little clearer, ur dexterity matters irrespective of the language u choose, & by that I mean ur interest, zeal & so d rate at which u develop. So it's like choosing between Ferrari and Mercedes..it's all about ur personal interest. In between, I code with php & I've found it very cool. For begingers it's most friendly. As u grow u can learn some of its frameworks to scale some of d perceived shortcomings of php. All the best

Currently learning Asp.net but I've been encountering a lot of problems structuring my webpage

I started my web development journey with php. Now I'm on ASP.NET and let me tell you this, ASP.Net is far better. Visual Studio makes developing web apps with Asp. net a breeze. It's more secure, more suited for large scale and enterprise apps.

Your statement is misleading, I don't know how long I'll continue saying this, "No programming language is more secure or less secure", For God sake, programming language is just a tool, and security is a feature that depends strictly on the artisan's logic.

How can you say ASP.NET is far better ?
ASP is more suited for large scale?
Where's your statistics ?

You might give us some examples, the last time I checked, PHP is still the leading programming language powering most websites and applications running on the web.

Python is currently doing a great job and is attracting more Programmer because of its simplicity and consistency, Machine language friendliness.....

A good programmer can never be bad because he switched to another programming language neither can a bad programmer be good by changing a programming language.

Programming languages are like spanner, screwdriver, pliers.....
End products depend on the skill of the user.

See this one ooo. Who told you a gud programmer can never be bad because he switched language. Languages like VB.net don't care whether you've declared a variable before using it. Can you try that in Java?
It's obvious you're a php fella from your comment. write a banking app in php and tender it to banks and let's see if they'll give it a nod.

From your comment, it's obvious you're a programming language lover boy and you've restricted yourself to some particular type of projects which in my opinion is bad for the fast growing programming world. I started with c++, then switched to Java, then used VB.net for some school projects before I switched back to java until I realised PHP was doing better on web than java applet then I switched to php......
There was a time I used prolog for a project since it was the requirement.... sincerely I can't remember the number of programming languages I've used; When I worked on a sample token on ethereum, I used solidarity which I've never known to be a programming language until I had to work on the token.
My dear, in the programming world there's nothing like best programming language, Programmers are super dynamic in selecting programming languages because of the nature of their job.
I switched to python last year December because I had to work on a Machine learning project, few months back I was working on node.js but am currently working on an ancient PHP templating engine (Smarty) because that's what my current project requires.....
The bottom line is that, even though I switch 101 programming languages, my programming techniques is still the same....
I remember in those days when I was working heavily on c++ and java, I'll copy a Java control structure and past it in c++ and vice versa...
I currently learn a new programming language within a week, because the difference between programming languages are mostly their syntax...
An object oriented programming language is similar to other object oriented languages, A procedural language is procedural.

You made mention of variable scope, citing java and vb; My dear variable scope is not a weighty matter when comparing programming languages... and you also mentioned banks rejecting a php based project; seriouly this does not make any sense to me, Your Facebook, Wikipedia, yahoo, wordpress, Flickr, Tumblr.... are currently running on PHP and I don't think you'll tell me these Apps are not secure.

I just came back to PHP some few months back, I even forgot that "i" is for minutes and not "m" in PHP date() function, check my recent questions on Stackoverflow and you'll see how I've quickly forgotten PHP syntax...

A good programmer is good because of his techniques or sense of algorithm not because of a programming language.
As spanner, pliers, saw, screwdriver... are tools to a mechanic so are programming languages to a programmer.

app security is language independent, bros. security of an app solely depends on the developer.

no language is better than another. use the right tool for the job

ASP.NET Use for super complex and robust applications. PHP is nice but most companies wont allow PHP to handle their applications as they fear for hackers later on. In ASP.NET you just design the css in Photoshop and export it later on, then link it by href to your application.

I know C# (Winform, WEb service, ASP.NET) currently learning ASP.NET MVC /Razor, also know PHP... but ma Laravel / YII/ Symphony skills are not very strong 100% yet, and i can say security wise, ASP.NET is just fine and better of, but its not compulsory, you can implement a tight security using PHP if u know how to.

Good luck

I would have forgiven you if you didn't imply to be a programmer, however I won't punish you *Just kidding*

It's a big misconception that PHP is not secure and I know exactly where it all started....

Allow me to give you an example;
You remember in those days when we browse with cheat, which network has the highest number of cheat flying around ? Yes! you're correct, MTN has 2x other networks cheat, why ?
Was it because other networks were more secure ? NO!
It was simply because MTN had many internet users than other networks thereby attracted more hacker...

Now to the subject matter, PHP is serving more than half of websites running on internet, where do you think the hackers would go ?

Another problem with PHP is the baby Programmers, PHP is a goto language for newbies because of it simplicity and ease of deployment on the web unlike other languages. Newbies don't care so much about security they just want to see their program running (that's typical me when I started), would you fault PHP because it was used wrongly ?

There's no programming language app that cannot be hacked, that's why most companies love their developers to use frameworks written by professional and ASP.NET is an example of such a framework, so the arguement should not be PHP vs ASP.NET but Laravel, Yii, Codeigniter, cakePHP.... vs ASP.NET because ASP.net is not a programming language but a framework.

A nice comparison would be C# or VB.net vs PHP.....

You think you've built a nice secured app using ASP.net because the developer of ASP.net had done the job for you same is applicable to Laravel, Django, ruby on rails, GWT..... programmers.

A sweet example is bootstrap, someone that used bootstrap would say I've built a responsive website and in reality he didn't write a single line of CSS code....

Who made the website responsive ? Twitter bootstrap did and not you *smiles*

Now let me ask asp.net users, what did you do to make your website more secure than PHP programmers ?

True sha. I use vulnerability scanner everytime i finish coding my ASP.NET / PHP application , i also use prepared statements for ma SQL and everything.
you use Kali ? or nextpose scanner for your Web apps? do u code from scratch or you use frameworks??

Mohemos thanks for teaching the fellows here.. Way too many misconceptions.

Its not about the tool but the artisan.

I just feel bad mouthing a language or claiming one is better than the other is something newbies do.

The php you think is not secure is used by more 60% of the world's web applications.

I've also seen a lot of badly written asp.net codes, same with php.. Same way there are excellent codes in both.

Write what you are comfortable with, or what the client wants.

For your information, there's at least one bank in Nigeria that uses php.

imagine comparing a language with a framework
