Good afternoon nairalanders...I was discussing with my boyfriend about setting up a business, with what he has,I suggested he should go for recharge card business.he should buy the machine needed for printing recharge card.He said,he cannot do that kind of business. To me I think there is money in that business.
what do you people think about recharge card business.

Shrinking market; ppl are increasingly switching to electronic (online) rather manual (scratch/cash card) recharging - it is therefore a risky venture; unless of course you know differently.

I've been printing and selling recharge cards for a long time and I can categorically tell you that it is very very profitable.

Those of you saying recharge card vouchers will soon go out of fashion don't exactly know what you're talking about. So because you live in cities and towns and use mobile banking to recharge your phone you now assume every Nigerian lives there too. So many people prefer buying recharge cards than using the money in their bank accounts

I have a job that I'm doing but uses the business to increase my earnings. I don't hawk recharge cards, I print the vouchers wholesale and sell to retailers and I do it most evenings after work

Could you please elucidate on this? Because your claims are phoney.

I'm an animal scientist with 3 years on-farm experience. That guy didn't put into consideration health and feeding which accounts for about 80% of cost of production in animal enterprise. Ruminants can't attain any meaningful market weight within the period he mentioned. It's only pigs and poultry whose weight gain per day can be certain after following standard practices.

I buy the pins from the dealers, use my software to generate the pins and print the cards using my printer. Then I distribute to retailers in bulk and get paid.

I do it part time. I invested lots of money in it and the return is unbelievable

You are right .
There is nothing wrong in recharge card biz and I don't think it will die a natural death . Sometimes I buy card through my bank app. Sometimes on my street.
I feel her boyfriend is too proud to start from scratch.
Op is just wasting her time looking for a credible biz for her bf.
Bf that's not ready to use his brains and think of what services he can provide to the populace, that will yiels profit. Will such guy be able to float a biz successfully and make it grow?

The op suggested another biz ,he's asking if her younger bro can handle it .
Such attitude shows he's unserious and lazy to think with his brains .

And if her brother handles it and ot flops! He won't allow her and her family hear word again! They will be indebted to him forever, orlese they pay him his money back.smhhh

Anyways this is my short story on the path of joining entrepreneurial skill and biz

When I wanted to start a biz, I didn't have capital and my mum asked me , do u want to use your CV to land a job?

I said no! I want to be an entrepreneur.

She asked on what? I told her .
She said then u need to learn the skill. And she sponsored it. As I was done with my acquired skill.
She then asked how do u wish to start this new biz, small, moderate or big?
I said well it depends on how much u are willing to invest on me , mama. As I looked at her quietly with enthusiastic eyes .

She said ok, i prefer u start moderately and in a professional way. I smiled and said OK ma. Sounds good.

She asked : So where should we get shop? Which area in this state do u think your services will sell? Mind you. Choose a busy fashionable area though? I was like erhmmm? I looked lost as I was trying to figure which place is busy and also attractive for Customers to drop by. Hmmm no idea , I couldn't think fast enough.

She then, asked next What class of people do u plan to focus on ? People that will buy , appreciate and pay for your services ? I kept quiet , I was lost

She asked again, how do u plan to advertise your services for people to see and buy from u? I sighed and I looked at her confusedly.

She asked next: U know people are into what u are doing already? So how will your biz stay on top of its game I was like ehmm ehmmm. undecided

She then said , Look Vic, if you want me to invest in your idea and bizness plan. Give Me a credible answer to these questions have asked you. Sell your idea to me in a way that I can see clearly what u are seeing in this biz of yours . Cause u are just quiet looking at me . Capture my imagination , Open my eyes to see what u see and I will gladly invest my money on your biz.

II just looked at my mum with disbelief and shock . Cause in my mind I was like , this is a woman who stopped school at primary level in the old days. So how come she has idea on what to ask! Jeez!

I thought she will just give me the money I needed cos am a graduate for crying out loud. cry and I know I can handle any biz! Lol

Mehn, since that day I respect her brains. And I went back to the drawing board to map out and defend a credible vision and biz plan for her to approve and invest on.
And yes I came back a week later , well armed with information's to sell to that mind of her's lol. And she bought it , and invested 4million naira in my biz . smiley

cheesy i miss that woman! She over try!

Pardon my long epistle peeps cheesy

Avedonn:

I suggest he start animal fattening since he resides in the north where animals are cheap.

He can purchase malnourished goat or ram and rear them for 2 months and sell them off.

Malnourished goat would be around N6000 and he'll sell at N12000 after two months.

While ram cost about N15-18,000 at present and sell them during Moslem ilaiya period for N40- 50,000. The sallah would come up around August I guess.

40 malnourished goat will cost N240,000
Selling price after two months of fattening that's N12,000 × 40 = N480,000

*Note: the selling price may be more than N12,000

While for Ram, N18,000× 15= N270,000

Selling price N40,000× 15= N600,000 in two months time.

Since he resides in Abuja, he can purchase the livestock at any of the neighboring villages or Niger state.

You are indeed a woman of substance because it's hard to come across a lady willing to support her boyfriend just like how you are doing.

If he prefer cash crop business, let me know so that I'll give you the breakdown and the processes.

Bros, with all due respect, i'll like to know how you come about this statistics? undecided and who told you animals are cheap because it's north. True there is drop in price when compared to the west, south, east but its not cheap my man and that part of you saying a Ram costs 15k makes me wonder if ur talkn bout ram or somtin in btw; well, except ofcourse you mean a juvenile or upcomin adult grin moreso you don't get a goat for 6k and u fatten for atleast 3months before sell. I'd really like to know where u got most of this facts from because from what u told her, u seem not to posses quality knowledge on how that business is been run.

Now back to d topic grin grin cool Madam, i'm not really saying its a bad suggestion but if you must do this, you need quality knowledge about it so u dnt end up being surprised for the wrong reasons grin cool
Thankyu

recharge card business is no more profitable again unlike before, especially now that people can recharge online ....can't remember when last I patronized recharge card seller
It still sells. The market is always there; like all the time... no need for extra marketing. Just print, sell.... that is ofcourse if one is intrested in it in d first place.
The business though is good, but it deals with volume and thats wot d Op needs to know. And just like in every other business, patience is required! But my one kobo advice to Mrs Op, any biz u conclude on doin at d end f d dae, dnt delve into it even though u have 30bilion in ya akant grin

Recharge card printing shocked, my dear people shop online. Always go for a sustainable business, and it must be tightly supported by government policies.

Recharge card printing, betting and the likes have no protection from the government or laws, so it is not a sustainable business.

Even if you had 1000 naira only. I would rather advice you to use the cash to research government policies and see if anything commercial activity the government is protecting will catch his fancy. Remember having interest in the business is paramount, you cannot solve business challenges if your only doing it for cash. There has to be some sort of pleasure or self actualization in the game grin

He can start by looking at : exports, mostly agricultural products. or look at investing in farms. Nigeria has the AGOA with the united states, and other trade treaties with other countries. he can start from there.

He should not run faster than his shadow, in any government protected industry he decides to invest in, he should be willing to attain mastery at it, and he can only do that by reading and researching about the products or services. Big business pay consultants to do that for them, but since he is starting he need to do it himself and develop the habit of seeking for answers in books, journals, business sections of newspapers, and also ask questions.

Do not invest in a roadside business, think longterm and always ride on the governments policies, that is a surest way to overnight success. I cannot stress that enough, Dangote, has given Nigerians this secret over and over again; government policies are the key to sustainable wealth.

Also first thing tomorrow, he should go to the Lagos chamber of commerce if he is Lagos. If he is not, he should consider visiting Lagos for that. He should always be in a search for information. Nigerian business practices are changing, with the current government, if he is one of the pessimist, he should dust the scales of his eyes and sit down, and dig through the data, in search of patterns.

He should also protect his name with his life. No shady deals wink

And while he is thinking of what business to start he should lock the money down in a fixed deposit or treasury bill for atleast 3 months. Till he is sure of what to do. I repeat, stay away from any business the government is not protecting.
Thanks a lot
