What are you now using
walk straight into the bank bro, weekends...transfer money to my friends account...make him go get it for me bro.

Plus, main reason I stopped using is...I lived in olodi apapa, and I knew what boys could do.

I don't like taking any chances.

This isn't so new but worth sharing to nairlanders.
And Op I don't think the fraudster is bent on using stolen phones, they just have access to peoples online banking details prolly hacked and they are looking for a SCAPE GOAT to help them cash the money.

So let's say Mr A hacks Mr B's online banking account, he doesn't want to cash it out so he sends it to Mr C who is naive and just wanted to help . Then Mr C cashes the money and gives it to Mr A.

When the Mr B reports to his bank that his account has been tampered with, the bank officials traces where the money went to and they land on the account of Mr C and puts it on red flag.

Mr C has to explain to the police how the money got into his account. That's where the problem is.

He will be mistaken to be an Accomplice of crime.

Hi Nairalanders,

I work as a Support Staff for a commercial bank, and I have witnessed this New Crime case twice this week alone!!!

This fraud usually occurs at the ATM galleries. An 18-year-old customer and another 'rich' adult customer were victims and now they have their BVN flagged for live and have cases to answer with the Police, and with their bank accounts on Post-No-Debit.

This is how it works;

1. You walk to an ATM and someone (fraudster) approaches you. The person may show you wads of cash and claim they have exceeded their withdrawal limit of 150k, and that they still need more cash. They then plead to make a money transfer into your own bank account so that you can withdraw it for them.

2. The TROUBLING thing in this seemingly harmless random act of kindness is that transfers are usually made from STOLEN PHONES or HACKED BANK ACCOUNTS!!!

3. The person who owns the bank account which the money transfer was initiated from would report to his bank, and the bank would send out a circular to the recipient's bank with instructions to be carried out - which usually includes freezing your own account, BVN flagging, and on most times an order for your apprehension.

4. The next thing you would discover is that the next time you try to use your ATM card to withdraw, your transactions will be unsuccessful.

5. You then go to your bank and you get the news. You will thank your stars if there's no MEMO to apprehend you and hand you over to the Police immediately - for something you surely don't know about. You may be advised to quickly go get a Police Report.

The 18-year-old boy was sent to withdraw money from his bank account by his Mom. On getting to the ATM, he was held at gun point by the fraudsters and the money transfer was made, money withdrawn, and he was released. The money here was 40k. The boy was advised to report himself to the Police, and he should follow up with the bank.

The adult customer was approached respectfully by a fraudster brandishing loads of cash. So, he felt at ease and 'helped', not knowing he had been exposed for flagging. Here, the amount of money involved was 50k. The customer who has about 1 million naira in his bank account has now been undone because of 50k he knows nothing about. Now, there's a MEMO to have the customer arrested anytime he steps into any of the bank branches.

Who knows if the stolen phones were acquired via One Chance armed robbers or the bank transfer details were supplied by Serial Hackers? This is a serious criminal issue.

Remember, if you have your BVN flagged, then you are so done with any legal financial dealings.

DO NOT HELP ANYBODY AT THE ATM!!! NOT EVEN AN OLD FRIEND, CHURCH MEMBER OR WHATSOEVER. SAY NO TO STRANGERS WHO APPROACH YOU FOR ANY TRANSFER FOR WITHDRAWAL AT THE ATM.

Imagine getting locked up over money you know nothing about other than helping someone to withdraw.

Nigerians are addicted to stealing and taking things that don't belong to them.
May I also add that Nigerians are very crafty and creative when it comes to criminal acts.

I wonder why some ppl don turn ATM gallery to their sittingroom.anyway i dont blame the dada wearing boys on skinny jeanns....na Buhari i blame.

I only ask/ answer the question " is it paying" when I use an ATM machine. Why would you entertain a stranger in Nigeria? I have always advised people not to talk to strangers if it's not a public event or meet up session and when you engage strangers in these settings, be cautious what you say yes to.

Nna men this is a serious something o. Na to make sure that one has small change at any time. Because I've had an experience twice where I forgot my atm at home and was standed. Had to do a transfer to someone there who helped me withdraw. So nothing like that again for me o

Most banks won't allow u to transfer any more money if you have exceeded ur limit at the ATM until after 24hrs. So any 1aporoaching u for help is questionable.

jeez! i almost fell for this. on the night nigeria was supposed to play argentina,i went to the atm to withdraw cash and someone pleaded with me that the atm was rejecting his card and i should help him withdraw so he can transfer to me. he did a transfer from his phone but i didn't get the alert. he was expecting me to give him money with the intent that the alert will come in. i told him i'd rather wait at the atm and forget about the match. we waited for a while and he asked me for my phone nos. as i was calling my nos to him,i didn't feel comfortable and i stopped when it remained only two digits. i told him i couldn't give him my nos. he asked what i do and i told him i sell cars. he now said i shouldn't be scared now,and that he has a fiend that just ate one bet of 3m and wants to buy a lexus and he can even bring the guy to me. i told him i still couldn't give him my nos. after many talk,i told him bluntly that this is nigeria and i don't know him from anywhere. whether he is involved in robbery or 419 or kidnapping,i don't know. if police should arrest him and go through his phone and see my nos there and they torture him till he says i'm a member of his gang and now see transfers from his account to mine nko,how will i explain that i don't know him. by the time we were arguing about,i called the bank security and explained everything to him. he asked if i received any alert and i said no. he asked if the guy was debitted,he said no. he now told the guy i had a point and since the money hasn't left the guy's account, there was no need for him to be asking for my number.
Good one
