I know how you feel. I started smoking same year after my SSCE and continued until I graduated from the University of Benin. I continued after my you'd service. I finally quit the habit last year November and till today, am yet to feel the urge to smoke.

Here's what I did and I hope it helps.

1. Avoid friends that smoke.
2. Avoid areas that gives you the urge to smoke. Places like clubs, bars, brothels, kparaga joints etc.
3. Look for a substitute addiction besides smoking but please don't turn to alcohol. Instead do stuffs like reading, zen meditation, fasting etc.
4. Cigarette addiction is caused by dopamine. I suggest you read about it.

Discipline is all you need. I'm also battling an addiction problem myself and I've been clean for many weeks now, but it's not cigarettes... You have to make a conscious effort and resist the urge whenever it arises.

Bro...if you can do without smoking for a month....then you really don't have a big problem....it is easy for you to quit. For you...smoking is a bad habit..... to others who must smoke daily...smoking is an addiction. The addiction is not the smoke...but the nicotine in the cigarette. The Patch....like a bandaid to stick on the skin.... is very effective in killing the crave to smoke. Why?...because the Patch has nicotine that is absorbed by the body through the skin.....same addiction....different mode of delivery.Keep away fromthe patch.
For you...I suggest you simply do not buy or beg for cigarettes...if you do...wet the pack...if it's a stick...spit on it!...make sure it cannot light...by the time it dries..the urge to smoke will no longer be there.

visit an hospital....especially a teaching hospital....maybe a psychiatrist or a pulmonologist

Dolapo all I can tell you is to follow those steps. Have a band of friends that aren't smokers. This was the first thing I did at Asaba before I moved to Lagos this year. Temptation will arise, it depends on you to react positively.

people have this misconception that you can’t be addicted to weed. But its real. If you have a dependency on anything, it’s an addiction. Weed addiction is probably worse because it messes you up mentally, cigarettes is more physical.

Are you married? If you are not, try dating or marry a lady that dislikes cigarette. I was into this too for a very long time but while dating, my wife told me politely she dislikes my smoking & since then, (3yrs now), I miraculously quitted! It's a thing of the mind sha & strong determination
