Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has urged Nigerians not to despair in the face of impunity, persecution and maladministration noting that “anything evil cannot last for long.”

He said that it is better to be persecuted for doing the right thing than being associated with despicable conducts and antecedents.

Jonathan stated this at the 2018 new yam festival of the Obi of Obinugwu and Chairman, Igbo Traditional Rulers Forum, Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya in Orlu Council Area of Imo State, Tuesday.

The former president urged Nigerians to appreciate and always endorse goodness and character above parochial momentary interests.

“We must appreciate goodness even when threatened with persecution because evil doesn’t last for long. A leader must be prepared to face a lot of challenges at some point in life, which is what leadership often entails.”

He described the new yam festival of Obinugwu community as “a spectacular cultural showpiece with the potentials of a national event.”

Also speaking, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha described Jonathan as “a friend in need and a friend indeed.”

According to him, the former president remains a reference point in leadership in Africa, stressing that Jonathan has laid a lasting foundation for all other succeeding presidents to build upon.

Ihedioha commended the Obinugwu Community for their spirit of oneness and resilence.

“We associate ourselves with what former President Jonathan has said. We made mistakes and have also learnt from our mistakes.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, dissociated himself from the persecution and injustice Eze Ilomuanya suffered in hands of the present Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Represented by a former Commissioner for works in the State, Ichie Best Mbanaso, the Deputy Governor noted that “Eze Ilomuanya is a good man. I am with him and the Obinugwu community because they did nothing wrong and that is why we are here to identify and celebrate this year’s new yam festival with them.”

While welcoming his guests, Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya described the new yam celebration as significant to the agricultural calendar of the community. He stated that August 14 every year is always set aside for this traditional festival which he said, they inherited from their forefathers.

The Monarch expressed gratitude to former President Goodluck Jonathan and other dignitaries from across the country who graced this year’s New Year festival of Obinugwu Community, pointing out that “it is an indication that Nigerians are one irrespective of linguistic, tribal and religious diversities.”

It is the duty of all well meaning people to stand up to tyranny. GEJ was a lot of things, both good and bad, but he wasn't a tyrant.

Who was it who locked out senators at NASS and made them climb and jump over the fence? Was it Yakubu Gowon?

Do you want me to list out his tyrannical acts since you suffer from selective amnesia

Cluelessness vs tyranny, I don’t know which one’s worse. They are both terrible examples of leadership.

this is the only problem I have with Yorubas angry

I have been warning u guys, desist from supporting impunity so disaster won't befall your land in future.

Leave Goodluck alone. He wasn't exceptional in terms of managing the national resources, and of course u don't expect him to because one president can't monitor everything but he made sure our economy was booming and there were jobs and businesses were booming and Naira had value at 197/$, and he listens whenever Nigerians complain of anything in his government, he quickly addresses it to suit what Nigerians want which was why many called him weak.

So God gave u people a wicked, heartless, unfit tyrant which Yoruba people keep supporting, future won't forget even if man tries to forget.

But you guys are seeing glaring leadership failure and tyranny of Buhari yet keep on calling him man of integrity how pls

Buhari doesn't listen to Nigerians, Goodluck does.

Nigerians complained that Berth Nnaji the then minister of power did this and that, Goodluck sacked him immediately without delay or trying to justify or cover him up.

Nigerians complained about Stella Odua the then minister of aviation, Goodluck sacked her asap without justifying anything, he listens when Nigerians cry or complain.

Northerners complained of Gen. Ihejirika killing northerners when Ihejirika as then COAS tried to end Boko Haram once and for all but as soon as northerners complained, Goodluck sacked Ihejirika without any delay, again he listened.

He increased fuel pump price and removed subsidy, Nigerians protested and Goodluck listened and reversed it.

But Buhari is so wicked, so heartless, so tyrannical that he doesn't listen to Nigerians nor anybody except foreign powers yet u Yorubas support him and justify his tyrannic government with all manner of excuses.

Nigerians complained of SARS, Buhari refused to listen or even address it not until he traveled out and Osinbajo the better human listened and ordered overhaul of SARS.

Nigerians complained illegal activities and harrassment of opposition party membera by DSS yet Buhari kept silent and did nothing not until he traveled and Osinbajo acted and sacked Daura DSS DG!

What about Pension man; Maina Abba Kyari nko

Nigerians complained of Burutai COAS Buhari don't care!

Nigerians complained about Kemi Adeosun forging certificate, Buhari don't care!

The missing billions with NNPC, Buhari never queried the NNPC GMD for it!

Nigerians complained of Police IGP, Buhari don't care and does nothing!

Buhari increased fuel pump price, Nigerians cried, Buhari didn't care and Yorubas justifies it!

How many will I list here, karma and nature is watching o. Watch your back, life is bigger than u guys think.

Will UK ever believe they will be relegated in terms of technology and global politics and economy ever in life Look at them now sinking like Titanic, hmmm lipsrsealed
