How mini importation works in the simplest terms .... You simply buy an appealing product at a ridiculously cheap price say at N250 and sell with a large markup profit to a tune of N2000 to N5000 naira depending on the perceived value of the product. In summary buy low, sell high, simple math! A perfect example shown below is a product sourced from china that is sold for $2.98 (I.e. around N1, 072) and then is sold here in Nigeria for N6,620.

Why do people source from china and not Nigeria? Well honey! I don’t mean to sound sarcastic but when last did you buy a made in Nigerian product? See…….. Don’t get it twisted, we have great products here in Nigeria but we are wired to perceive products sourced from outside the country especially white people as having a higher value .that is why my brothers in ABA will produce equally fine clothes and brand them as Gucci… Lol. Understood, but why china? Okay good question I will tell you why we choose china; it is because china has one of the largest population in the world and thus it has led to cheap labor which has encouraged many companies to build their manufacturing plants over there in china like Samsung, iPhone etc. because cheap labor directly affects the selling price of a product; ensuring a healthier competition with other companies in their niche. Let’s try to verify this by conducting a quick check of the product’s you presently have around you right now. It will amaze you to discover that 4 out 5 of these things around you are manufactured in china. |

So where can you get ideas of different niches available in your market? The best place to find them is ecommerce sites and forums. Examples of ecommerce sites are konga, Jumia, deadly etc. while for forums my number one source of niche ideas is Nairaland. You can see from the picture above that each of this niches or categories if you may, also have sub niches. For examples the health and beauty niche when highlighted will show you sub niches under the health niches as seen above. Go ahead to jumia on your browser and try it.
