Money Found Hidden Under A Mattress By A Guest In My Home. What Does This Mean? by NGRBorn: 2:34pm On Aug 31, 2018
A guest (a family member), visited my home. Sometime after the guest's departure, I found a good amount of Naira left neatly hidden under the mattress. The guest never asked for the Naira or indicated they left Naira in my home. Please note that I live in a country, where Naira is not the currency.

What does this mean? What should I do?

Go and visit the guest then put the naira back under their bed.

I am not sure if you are joking or serious, but this comment made me laugh.

Please explain what you mean and why you make this suggestion.

I believe they should inform you about that but since it was kept away from you, they have an agenda.

Just get it done.

Why? I am not arguing, just trying to understand. What's your reasoning?

I cannot get access to his bedroom, what more his mattress to put the Naira under their mattress as Vizkid suggested.

Just call them to come and take their money, don't mix it up with yours to avoid stories, its not necessary a spiritual trap they probably forgot it.

Don't assume the money is yours to keep unless/until the guest says so. Contact the guest to let them know they left money under the mattress because it could be that he/she misplaced it there.

I don't live in Nigeria, so the person cannot come easily to retrieve the money - neither can I easily return the money to them given distance and travel costs. Also why would they hide Naira under the mattress in a guest room in a foreign country? Also the guest visited a long time ago, and I only just discovered the money.

What's a "spiritual trap"?

It's 2018. There's a way to send money to anyone, anywhere in the world. Stop making excuses and contact the owner that they left their money under the mattress. If they then tell you to keep it, do that. If not, find a way to send it to them. Simple.

He forgot or just didn't change the naira to whatever currency you use in your country, tucked the money under the bed and totally forgot it. . .

Why are people so superstitious? What's the biggie here? Why are you trying so hard to read meaning into This? And it's your own kit and kin? Chai, it's a pirrrrrry cry cheesy

Better return the money to the owner, People are wicked. I remember a particular time we are preparing the burial ceremony of my mother, we are receiving cash gift from family friends and well wishers, a particular uncle gave my father N4985 cash. Later my dad told me what the man brought. I was furious and quarrel my father for collecting such money from the man. We know him in village and everyone aviods him.

I am not at all opposed to returning the money, but the question for me is why was the money hidden under the mattress in the first place? if the money was forgotten in an exposed, unhidden place, I would have found it within 24-48 hours of the guest's departure and immediately called the guest to arrange the return of the money.

In this case, many many many moths after the guest's departure, I find the money hidden under the mattress. I find this strange, very strange. How am I sure the money was "forgotten"? Perhaps it was purposefully left there. The guest never contacted me to indicate their money was forgotten. I find this strange, very strange.

My post is not an attempt to get justification to keep the money. Thankfully, I do not need the money. My post here was to get an understanding of why a guest would leave money carefully hidden under a mattress and never indicate to me they "forgot" money there and request its return.

Any thoughts on the motivation behind the guest's mysterious action are welcome.

Ok. I got your point. I'm not a superstitious person. It is natural for an average Nigerian to think that the guy did juju with the money or that he was trying to set you up. It is strange though. Did any other guest use the room before or after the guy used it. For all you know, it might have been left there by another person. How often do you have guests that use the room and do you always look under the bed after each one leaves?
My guess is that whoever kept the money:
1. Ran into problems somewhere and is unable to come back to pick it
2. Still intends to come back for it at a future date
3. Has forgotten about it after looking for it at the wrong places.
I ruled out juju. They don't usually use huge wads of notes for ritual. One or few pieces of naira notes would usually serve.

The person probably hid it so he or she can have naira to use when they return and forgot it. I keep my money tucked away so I don't get tempted to spend I forget sometimes

I rarely have guests. This guest was the last guest to stay in the room.

I had one or two guests prior to this particular guest but I rule them out, as the cover for the bottom mattress on which the money was found was purchased in anticipation of the guest's arrival and placed on the bottom mattress just before the guest arrived. In summary, the money was found hidden n between two mattresses, on top of a bottom mattress covered with a bedspread that was purchased and placed there just before the guest arrived.

Given the above, it is hard to conceive of any other person placing the money there - I rarely have guests, have had no guests since this guest was here.

As I said previously I do not live in Nigeria, which makes the guest's actions more mysterious. There is no logic in the guest keeping or hiding for future use Naira in a country where Naira is not the currency.

The person probably kept it there for safe keeping and forgot where he/she kept the money. He/she probably thought the money was stolen and did not inform you to avoid embarrassment. If I were in your shoe, I will call the person to enquire if they left the money there and inform them of my discovery even if it was more than a year later. He/she probably thinks there’s a thief in your house.

You are not listening, it seems your mind is made up. When I travel, I set my local currency aside so I can have some money when I get back, sometimes people can forget it or where it was kept very common and just assume it was lost and not want to bother you by asking especially if they are not sure where they left it, call the person and inform them they left their money and stop with the needless drama

Then call him and ask if he left any money in the room. Nothing could be simpler. When you get his response bring it here. Let's take it up from there.
