But bro why do you wear shirts, T shirt and suits (if you do) which are English wears? and not only native attires. Sometimes we over dramatize things.
I agree op's dramatizing a bit. But those colonial relics called wigs should have no place here in 2018.

I have always wondered why too? Maybe if we finally let go of this colonial crap, our courts will finally know what justice is...

we still practice law law thought by them.It is their system. How times have heard lawyers when arguing a case reffering to case ruled in england years.Reyland vs fletcher Solomon vs Solomon. No matter how much we think we have freed from the yoke of colonialism it is sad that in reality that isn't true.A country like Ethiopia that was never colonised may find it easier to run their systems without import from any other country. It also depents On the way you look at it,for example a young graduate from college who has been studying law and growing knowing that one day I will put on that wig so to him or her it will be fulfilling once he or she finally does that.In other words it is a symbol. If we must do away with this we must also do away with military badges and symbols.

Military badges are used to differentiate a soldier from another.

It can be used to know a soldier's
1. Corps
2. Unit
3. Battalion
4. Mission etc.

What is the wig used for?

Every soldier in the world uses badges.

Which western lawyer uses wig?

Nearly 60 years after independence from colonial rule, why do our lawyers still wear these things on their heads?

Is it that we cannot devise a home-grown attire for our lawyers, or is it that we so love the colonial rulers and exploiters of our land, that we just cannot let go of their legacy?

Did somebody do juju on us to turn us into mumus where the colonialists are concerned?

India, Pakistan, and parts of China were colonised by the British. But their legal systems have jettisoned those colonial wigs ages ago.

In Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and other ex-colonies, still continue to wear them.

What is wrong with us as a people?

Seriously, we need to approach our ancestors for forgiveness, in case we did something to them that made them place a curse on us, that has turned us into dumb mumus without basic common sense and dignity, especially where it concerns Europeans.

Imagine for a second how the white people will be laughing their heads off when they see us wearing these things, a full sixty years after independence.

It's truly disgusting.

You have a point that may be very meaningful but it suffers poor presentation.

1. You didn't tell us the origin of wearing the wig and why it is associated with colonialism.

2. You didn't tell us why [not] wearing it directly affect the discharge of the duties of our 'learned colleagues'

3. You did not give example(s) of what the countries you mentioned have used to replace the wig.

4. You failed to offer alternatives.

5. Anyway, fine perapective on abrogating our mental colonialism.

Idiotic, mindless, copy-cat mumus.

They truly look weird and stupid!

They are now black man wigs bro. We wear them because we want to. It is irrelevant to the discussion of whether the wig and gown should be done away with that they were introduced by the British.

Dude United Kingdom has stopped wearing wigs , but in some higher courts there you can't appear without wearing the wig. In Nigeria situation we are only preserving the tradition . Nothing about mental slavery

1. It is a British tradition. U don't see them sheepishly and mindlessly following Nigerian traditions

2. It is hot in 9ja and wearing such a headress can limit brain activity

3. US stopped wearing them, so did Canada

4. Duh. What's wrong with formal African dressing or even shirt and tie?

5. You got that right

It is truly not fair - and your own is better!

I like what u posted here:

One of the editors of the Nigerian Lawyer blog wrote that wigs weren’t made for the sweltering Lagos heat, where lawyers wilted under their garb.
“The culture that invented wig and gown is different from our own and the weather is different,” Unini Chioma wrote.
......

But seriously guys, doesn't this fellow look like some sort of an idiotic caricature?!
UNBELIEVABLE!!

As far as we as citizens of Nigeria are concern the the traditional wig they put on is not an issue, rather we should ponder on the quality of judgments we get. For example, we're in a country where a GSM phone thief is slammed with 5yrs imprisonment and a political thief that stole our commonwealth will be granted bail by same men on wig, so how do we reconcile this, or does their wigs wearing have anything to do with it?

It all starts with the general phoniness of which wig-wearing is a big part. That's why it is important

If you are not a lawyer, mind your business. We want it that way. It is our profession. The army, clergy, doctors, nurses, etc have theirs. Leave the Legal profession alone.

Na Shakespeare way we still dey follow.
Wigs are part of the ceremonial wear. They don't wear it all the time in court.

I am very much disappointed in most of what we do in Africa. Everything we do is copied from the Whites. Though some are beneficial while on a larger scale, the rest are rubbish
We have been mentally enslaved for so long a time and now too difficult to come out of them
Imagine with the vast knowledge in medical world, an average African will resort to prayer to cure common headache, blood transfusion is prohibited in some religious sect even when its refusal is likely loss of life.
Oyonbo man rubbish our own African traditional religion and enforced theirs on us but they don't practise the way we do here.
We need mental re-engeneering in Africa
