To know if you have a criminal record or not and if it was indicated on your I-129f while filing. So it is not a scam.

You can even be turned back if you don't have it with you for the interview

Bro, you don't need it for travel. You hand it over and the embassy before the interview. POE won't check for that because the embassy has looked through it already. Just prepare for your interview and you'd be fine.

Bro, the embassy is going to package a sealed K1 packet for you to deliver to the POE immigration officer upon your arriving Yankee. I'm not sure and can't quite remember, but commonsense tells me your criminal history is part of that packet. You don't want to be delayed unnecessarily for something that silly or procedural.
If the Dept. of State's requirement is a 1 yr valid Police report, abeg, give them wetin dem want.

I got my Police Certificate recently. So if the validity is one year then I'm good. This us because my Interview is January and my intended flight date is March.

The reason I was initially bothered was because a validity of 3 months was written on the Police Certificate I obtained. My understanding now however is that the Embassy uses a Validity of 1 year and not 3 months.

So I'm giving the Embassy what they want

Now the main issues we are trying to be together.i have invited him over which he is trying to procure is visa to Nigeria so we could go to the registration at ikoyi to tighten the knot, so by the time he goes back he can file for me. Well it's up to you guys. The two options are Fiance Visa and Spousal Visa. Fiancee Visa is faster as it could take between 6 to 12 months while Spousal Visa could take a year or even more. However Spousal Visa is more guaranteed compared to Fiancee Visa. So make your choice.

If you guys opt for the Fiancee Visa route, then you must not get married when he comes over. You'll have to wait till when you get to the States with the Fiancee Visa. But if he's tieing the knot when he comes, then the Spousal Visa route is what you guys should take.
