On September 5, 2014, a famous Nigerian editor and columnist was knocked down and killed by a hit-and-run motorist.

The incidence occurred while he was jogging in his Okota, Lagos neighbourhood.

Just like the 58 years old Dimgba Igwe, there have been other reported cases of hit-and-run incidences involving physical fitness enthusiasts.

Indeed, roads in Lagos state are notorious for reckless motorists. And as such, pedestrians and physical fitness enthusiasts are typically exposed to such dangerous motoring.

However, there is another group of street joggers that seem to have further heightened the risks of jogging on the street.

This category of exercisers are those who jog with earpieces on. Members of these group have become common sights on some of our busy roads.

Wearing earpieces of an audio gadget can effectively prevent one from hearing sounds from a potentially dangerous situation.

Shouldn’t such practice be outlawed?

Some (especially the ladies) are just attention seekers.

1. They wear tight fitting yoga pants and sports bra with earphones to seduce working class dudes & married men.
2. They start their jog around 6:30am instead of 5:45am when its still dark
3. They run for 10 mins & walk the rest.

3 years later, they are still fat & single.

Another important thing; if you are jogging on a road keep in mind to jog at an opposite direction to traffic flow, don't jog in the same direction of traffic because with your head looking to traffic, you would be alert to any imminent danger and can even have the luxury of putting your earpiece on.

Most Nigerian roads lack pavements. It's not Ideal to be running on main roads.

Sadly there's a general lack of foresight where these things are concerned.

Suggestions;
1. People should make use of the school field around their areas you can jog around the field.
2. Make use of any stadium around your vicinity e.g Lagosian can stadiums at Agege,Surulere,Lagos Island, if given approval. Non be only owambe dey use stadium do
3. Visit the gym around your area.
Life is too precious to be wasted for mere exercise along the highways or express road.

It is becoming a trend on the street of Portharcourt now.

Just come out around 5am, all road is filled with teens, youths and adults.

However, the street lights and pedestrian lanes aid this too.

When u jogging on the roads in the mornings or evenings make sure u are at the section of the road where the cars are coming towards ur front and not towards ur back...and no ear piece when jogging. If u observe these rules u are safe.

I was a bike passenger on my way to work one morning many years ago. A lady jogging with dark clothes and headphones on crossed the road without looking. She came out of no where. We both had our heads slammed on the ground. She passed out. People came to her aid while I went to the hosipital.

How can you wear dark clothes jogging with headphones in a poorly lit street.

I hope she was ok tho.

u be character i swearcheesy.. Abeg dont down the spirit of those ladies who want to keep fitcheesy. Some ladies are really trying coming out in the early mornings to exercise and about being single... A lady who is single and wants a man can use the strategy to do morning joggings and i bet u an impressed guy will ask her out. E dey happen. It is not by goin to shiloh and askin pastor to giv u husband dat will guarantee a lady a husband. If she's sociable and mix out and exercise she will get a man no time if dats wat she wish forcheesy.
