SLAVE EMPIRE

“……….I dedicate this write-up to all my fellow compatriots in the struggle, hold on! Your silent voices will soon be heard, and you will be treated like humans that you truly are…….”

Born with a silver spoon, I thought all will be rosy for me until reality set in. Even before I was born, there was high expectation and hopes even from neighbors around. There was merriment and feast all over the town. Other children and parents were optimistic that things will be well when this child is finally given birth to, but reverse is the case. Some might ask who am i? I am the son of the king but a slave in his palace. My name is supposed to be written in gold, but I have no name. I am scorned by others, regarded as a nobody. Children I was born before them are beckoning me to catch up . Am supposed to be dressed in fine clothing, but am wearing rags. I eat the crumbs that falls from the table. You are not far from the truth if you say am the lowest in the food chain. Misery is my second name! How did I descend so low to this level? I will tell you all. It will surprise you all that my father is the architect of my doom. Am a child with many fathers, a bastard to put it right. All my fathers are kings, but am always a servant under them. They don’t care about my plights even when it is visible to the blind that I need help. While others are living, am just existing. Who cares or listen to a slave in rags? Even servants and our guests are treated well than me. They are well protected but am left to die. The rain and sun beats me everyday. Am indeed a slave, a low life slave!
Since my father(s) don’t care about me, I decided to work for one of my father’s servant that is very rich, he owns a company of his own. I got to work the first day, in front of the big gate with security guards, I said to myself; at least I can become somebody if I work very hard. Determined to succeed on my own, I entered into the company, I was given working clothes and shoes. I was shown where to work, and I started working immediately with smiles written all over my face. I worked so hard, there was no room for resting. Standing and working, working like a slave. Oops! I forgot that am a slave, and will be treated like one anywhere. I was shouted at, the machines keeps on producing products non-stop, I and other slaves keep on working our butts out. There was camera everywhere to monitor the “slaves.” The machines keep on working in high speed, there’s no room for relaxation or the machines will start making an awful sound, signaling that there’re too many packages that has not been packed. It dawned on me that I am in a ‘slave camp’. If not, how will you explain the fact that I have to work for 12 good hours and am paid a “thousand Naira.” Yes! You heard me right, one thousand Naira. No food, I have to buy my own food. No water, I have to buy my own water too or you drink tap water, which is as good as drinking slow poison. Out of twelve hours, I only have an hour to rest. Standing and working for hellish eleven hours is not a child’s play. My finger tips are always in pains. We produce four to six thousand cartons of the product a shift. For those who knows the price of a carton can do the mathematics. And there are two shifts in a day(night and day).
You don’t need to go to Libya or far away to see how slaves are treated badly. Just come to INDOMIE Nigeria PLC (Northern Noodles) in Kaduna, you will see slaves in their own land. Slaves been commanded to work like one by fellow Nigerians. The worst is that after that shift, we have to sweep the factory before the next shift. They (slave masters) don’t want to hire extra hands (sweepers). They want cheap laborers. ‘Exploitation’ is just the right word to use in describing the plight of workers in this company. I took a decision one day after returning from the slave camp- Am not going back there. I will not live up to forty if I continue working there. My body is always in pains whenever am back home. I sleep like dead body. I cannot kill myself because of peanut. A thousand Naira for 11 hours is the worst form of exploitation any human can take.
The big question is, for how long will we continue to be slave in our own land?
Food for thought!

This is serious cos you just mentioned the name of a company in there if this is true then we need to really push this to the front and fight back this injustice in our land
