Super Falcons Set To Tango China, Korea, Canada

The female national team, Super Falcons will on January 14 fly out to China, where they are billed to compete in a four-nation  invitational competition to kick-start their preparations for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Footballlive.ng learnt further that, after playing Canada, South Korea and China in the competition next month, the Falcons will in April also participate in a similar event in Cyprus.

After that, they will move to the same camp  the Super Eagles used for their Russia 2018 build-up in Austria for the final lap of preparations for France 2019.

NFF president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick confirmed plans for the Falcons’ France 2019 build-up programme, as he stressed that The Glasshouse top shots are all determined to see the excel at the World Cup.

Pinnick stated further that the NFF are committed to the development of women’s football and that the team will get the best of preparations ahead of the World Cup.

He stressed that the NFF are working so hard to ensure the girls get the best of preparations heading into the Female Mundial in France.

Pinnick said: “There are only two free windows before the World Cup, but we decided that instead of playing friendly matches the team will embark on an invitational tournament to boost their preparations.

“I can confirm to you that come January 14 the team will be heading to Asia where they will play (in a four-nation competition).

“(There, they will play) the likes of Korea who happen to be in our group, China and Canada who are among the biggest nations when it comes to women’s football.”

Am looking forward to the match against Belgium and Austra...they will give the Superfalcons a good fight.. against Slovakia they should get a comfortable win.. although the Slovakia side are very physical.

The Superfalcons won 1Nil the last time they played Austra in 2011.
They draw 2 - 2 with the Slovakia side in 2011 also during their Camping in Austra in preparation for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.

Those teams have vastly improved. We will need to be on top of our game in all 3 matches.

Chinese women national team just confirmed Nigeria will be in the 4 nation tournament in Meizhou next year. Tournament starts on 17th January and will involve 4 teams- China, South Korea, Nigeria and Romania.
This way, Nigeria likely to play nothing less than 6 different countries before the world cup. Superb.

Between January and March, the team would have played 6 matches; which should be more than enough for Dennerby to adequate scrutinize the players who would be on the plane to France.

China open their campaign against Nigeria while Romania will face the Koreans. The winner's of these matches will face each other in the Final day 20th of January

On January 8th 2019 in Dakar Senegal, a new Queen of women football in Africa will emerge. Will the present holder Asisat Oshoala retain the award, or will there be a new winner? This question will be answered when Confederation of African Football, CAF, converges in the city of Dakar Senegal to unveil the winner.
While we await the big day, Our Correspondent, Faith Oluchi who was in Ghana for the women’s Cup of Nations picks her possible top five that could clicnch the prestigious award.

1. Chrestinah Kgatlana (South Africa/Houston Dash) :
Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana is a South African forward . She plays for Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League and is a member of the South African Natonal team. Kgatlana is a top contender for the prestigious award having distinguished herself in the 2018 African Women’s Cup Of Nations tournament in Ghana where she represented and helped her country to qualify for the FIFA world cup for the very first time in the history of South Africa. Kgatlana won woman of the match award twice, player of tournament, highest goal scorer and was named in the tournament best XI. She had 16 appearances, scored two goals and three assists for her club Huston Dash this season. If Kgatlana eventually scoops the award in Dakar Senegal, she will be the second South African after Noko Matlou (2008) to have won the award.

2. Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria/Dalian Quanjian)
Asisat Oshoala who had previously won the award in 2014 and 2016 , beat Cameroonian Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and Christina Kgatlana of South Africa to the top prize in 2017. In her first season in China, she notched 12 goals including a brace in the final game of the season. Her exploits earned Quanjian a league and cup double, she was also crowned the League’s best striker.

At the end of the 2018 season, Oshoala finished as second highest goal scorer with 10 goals behind Tabitha Chawinga and helped her club Dalian retain their league crown.

Oshoala won the woman of the match award once, was named in the substitutes team of the tournament and lifted the African women’s cup of Nations trophy with Nigeria in Ghana. Oshoala is on the verge of equalling Perpetua Nkwocha’s four time record winner of the award if she gets to win it in Dakar but it definitely won’t come easy.







3. Onome Ebi (Nigeria/Henan Huishang FC)

Onome Ebi is a classical example of winners never quit and quitters never win, considering the career threatening injury she had during the final of 2016 African Women’s Cup Of Nations in Yaounde Cameroon and how she was able to overcome the setback after almost a year without kicking ball, picked herself up and became a solid rock for her club Henan Huishang Fc. Onome played in all except one match for her club and also scored three goals this season. She was the solid rock that took charge of Super Falcons of Nigeria defence during the 2018 African Women’s Cup Of Nations in Ghana, it’s not surprising that she was named in the tournament best XI after the competition by CAF.

Onome had a great season in her club, crowned it with her fourth AWCON title in Ghana and it won’t be surprising if she gets to the podium to lift the prestigious award.







4. Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi/Jiangsu Huatai) :

In 2017, Chawinga finished as Swedish Damallsvenskan top scorer, netting 25 goals before she was snapped up by Jiangsu Huatai of China from Kvarnsveden of Sweden in January 2018.

Since her arrival in China, the Malawi international has been an instant hit for Jiangsu after she helped them to a Chinese Women Championship title and also emerged the top scorer with eight goals.
At the end of the 2018 season, Chawinga ended with 17 goals to scoop the league top scorer award.

Tabitha will be a top contender for this year’s award considering all her exploits this season for her club, she may not have featured in the 2018 African women cup of Nations but her records in her club this season is good enough to see her through to the podium.







5. Francesca Ordega (Nigeria/Washington Spirit)
Francesca Ordega had a great season with her club Washington Spirit having played 18 matches and scored three goals for her club. She also had a good outing in 2018 African Women’s Cup Of Nations in Ghana, scored two crucial goals with two assists and won two woman of the match awards.
Though many pundits believes that Ordega deserves to be in the tournament best XI, she was named in the substitutes team of the tournament by CAF.

Rasheedat Ajibade Rejected 3-Year Vaxjo DFF Deal, Accommodation & Offer To Continue Education

Super Falcons rising star Rasheedat Ajibade was heavily courted by Swedish Damallsvenskan side Vaxjo DFF before she made an under-the-radar transfer to Norwegian club Avaldsnes IL, allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report.

The striker was offered a three-year contract by Vaxjo DFF but negotiations dragged on and on as her representatives were too slow to respond, leading to the eventual collapse of the deal.

Assuming the deal went through, Ajibade would have been given an accommodation by the Swedish club, who also promised her financial support to offset the costs of schooling in the country.

Last season, Vaxjo DFF paid the wages of another Nigeria international Osinachi Ohale and Ajibade would not have had problems adapting to life in Sweden.

It is understood that the Super Falcons technical crew and an unnamed Nigeria Football Federation staff convinced Nigeria's most promising talent to accept the offer from Avaldsnes IL.

Ajibade has represented Nigeria at the Fifa U17 and U20 Women's World Cups and would be hoping to join a select group of Nigerian players which includes Ngozi Okobi and Francisca Ordega to have scored in all three Fifa women's tournaments if she finds the net in France 2019.

Nigerian Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi has called for the African champions to be given adequate preparation before flying to France for the 2019 Women's World Cup.
The team is scheduled to take part in the four-nation China Cup and the prestigious Cyprus Cup in January and February respectively, ahead of the Women's global event next summer.
After exiting the 2015 tournament at the group stage, Okobi has called for more fixtures to be arranged for the Falcons, who have been drawn in Group A alongside 2019 hosts France, Norway and South Korea.

"The tournament in China and Cyprus is not enough, because these games are in January and February," Okobi told BBC Sport.
"What then happens after February until June? We need more quality international friendlies to put us in shape.
"Top friendlies bring the best out of the team. They also provide enough time for the players to further understand the coach's ideas, philosophy and also to get used to ourselves.
"The World Cup is not a place for us to be trying things out, so we need top matches to prepare us adequately."
Between winning the African title in 2016 and defending it in Ghana in 2018, Nigeria's solitary top friendly ended in an 8-0 defeat at the hands of France, equalling their record defeats against Norway (1995) and Germany (2010).
Their lack of adequate preparation saw them falter and struggle but they edged South Africa in the final to clinch a ninth continental title out of 11 editions early this month.
After a stuttering campaign on the continent, Okobi believes denying the Falcons sufficient preparation time could lead to another tough challenge on the world stage.
"It's very important for the federation to arrange something big for us," said Okobi.
"We've witnessed how the gap is gradually closing on the continent between us and others.
"For the World Cup we need to triple things up because we can't wake up one morning without top matches and then start travelling to France."
Nigeria will open their campaign against Norway on 8 June in Reims, then South Korea in Grenoble on 12 June before facing France on 17 June in Rennes.
Nigeria are the only African team to have played in all of the Women's World Cup tournaments since 1991.
They have failed to translate their continental dominance on the world stage, with their best performance coming in USA in 1999 when they reached the quarter-finals.

Pensacola FC's Kanu finding more goals in collegiate season

Pensacola FC forward Uchenna Kanu made a massive splash in her debut WPSL season, for she led the league in scoring.
Kanu, a former youth international player for her native Nigeria, came to the United States in 2016 and joined the soccer program at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.
“It was a good opportunity to take the next step in my soccer career and become more accustomed to a different way of living and style of play than where I came from," Kanu said. "And also, I wanted the opportunity to get an education.”
In her first collegiate season, she scored 13 goals in 10 games and was named Sun Conference Newcomer of the Year. The following year, she managed an absurd 45 goals in 21 games, earning her Sun Conference Player of the Year. Southeastern also won the Sun Conference championship.
“If I did not have the opportunity to compete and grow at Southeastern, I would not have had the chance to play in the WPSL," Kanu said. "Playing at SEU these past two seasons gave me the exposure to the league. Getting to play with top-level players in the WPSL helped me technically and in my fitness. The competition in the league pushed me to grow in those areas.”
Joining Pensacola FC for the 2018 WPSL season, Kanu made an immediate impact. She scored twice in her debut against Alabama FC and scored a hat trick in June against Baton Rouge United. Uchenna Kanu finished the regular season with 10 goals in seven matches, and had four matches with two or more goals scored.
In Pensacola FC’s first playoff match against Chattanooga FC, Kanu stole the show with a five goal performance en route to a 6-2 Pensacola win.
“I've always wanted to play with a top team," Kanu said. "My college teammate, Heidi Ruth, was already going to compete for Pensacola FC, and the coach reached out to me," Kanu said. "When I found out that they were one of the top teams in the WSPL, I knew I wanted to compete with them because that's what I've always aimed to compete at a high level.”
Uchenna Kanu brought home several Player of the Week awards, and was named Gulf Conference Offensive Player of the Year for 2018. Since returning to Southeastern University for the 2018 collegiate season, Kanu already has 19 goals in just seven matches, bagging two hat tricks and two four-goal matches.
Having represented Nigeria at several youth levels, Kanu has yet to receive a call-up to the senior national team.
With the scoring numbers she keeps putting up, that might someday change.
“While I have not noticed any difference in the attention I receive from the Nigerian National team, I am proud to represent my country," Kanu said. "I am focused on growing in the opportunities I have here in the United States right now.” Pensacola FC forward said.

Kanu Named United Soccer Coaches NAIA Player of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The United Soccer Coaches organization has announced its 2018 All-Americans, All-Region Teams, and Player of the Year.
The Southeastern University women's soccer team racked up the postseason accolades from the USC, highlighted by junior forward
Uchenna Kanu being named the USC NAIA Player of the Year.
Kanu netted seven goals in the 2018 NAIA National Championship Tournament, the most of any player in the field, while also recording an assist. Her dynamic postseason performance was highlighted by setting at new NAIA single-season goals scored record of 57 at the Final Site.
The Abia, Nigeria native also totaled 18 assists on the season to fuel her towards setting a new NAIA single-season points scored record at 132.
Kanu earned USC NAIA First Team All-American status along with sophomore forward Aisha Solorzano. The Guatemala City native Solorzano netted a goal and registered a pair of assists during Southeastern's stay at Orange Beach. Solorzano totaled 12 goals and 16 assists throughout the duration of the 2018 season.
Senior forward Isamar Duran was named Second Team USC All-American. Duran anchored an SEU back line which opened up the national tournament with a 260 minutes opponent scoreless streak. The Homestead led the defensive unit to a total of 16 shutouts on the season.
Kanu, Solorzano, and Duran also earned First Team placement on the USC All-East Region Team. On the Second team was freshman goalkeeper Holly Eddins, senior midfielder
Lynsey Kelly , and junior midfielder Bania Duran .
All players honored by United Soccer Coaches as NAIA All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the All-America Ceremony & Reception on Jan. 12, 2019 at McCormick Place West in Chicago in conjunction with the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Convention.

Southeastern Striker Leading Nation in Goal-Scoring

LAKELAND, FL -- Goals can be hard to come by in soccer.
But for Uchenna Kanu, it's not a question of if she will score a goal but how many?
Scoring goals has become as routine as brushing her teeth.
"Her ability to finish is at a very high level in the female game," Southeastern coach Randy Belli said.
She's scored 40 goals in just 16 games, the most by any collegiate soccer player, man or woman, in any division.
"I didn't know that but that's awesome," Kanu said. "Getting used to scoring goals is a part of me now."
So is her home country of Nigeria.
"Whenever I play I think of my friends and family back home, people that were there for me when I first started," she said.
Uchenna and her family didn't start with much. But whatever they did have was all lost when her house burned down, leaving them homeless for nearly a year.
"I think I was 15. It was a really bad moment. We just prayed to God to help us out." But before things got better, they got worse.
"My Dad passed away in the process. He had kind of like a heart attack. He couldn't deal with all the problems and got sick and couldn't make it."
A few years later, Uchenna would leave Nigeria and move to Lakeland all by herself in 2016. Ever since then, she's been a goal-scoring machine for the Fire.
But all those goals pale in comparison to the two goals she always has on her mind.
"My first is to get a degree here before going to play pro and be able to help my friends and family back home through this game of soccer. I just want to use this game to make a change back home and make things different."
"Absolutely she's gonna be a pro," Belli sad. "There's no doubt in anyone's mind she's going to play professionally but after her pro career is over she needs to have that degree so she can go to work and make a difference for her whole family back home. I think her whole family is counting on her."

I thought they will go to China first. If they are truly going to China, then they should resume in camp latest Monday. Then they will have enough time to just bring physical fitness level to average and maybe work a few tactics before flying to China. First match is on 17th January, 12 days away.

My gut feeling is that NFF will fumble again.

Congratulations to CAF team of the year. They are fighters. Had the worst preparations but still won the cup through dogged determination. Congratulations.

Uchenna Kanu is an Abia state born collegiate student in the United states. She was born on 20-6-1997. She is currently studying graphic design at Southeastern University. These are her records that proves she is the hottest young African player in the world for three years. She played for the Flamingos at Costa Rica 2014 and scored three goals.

Brighton & Hove striker Ini Umotong, 24, has received a call-up to the Nigerian Women's National Team for a four nations tournament.
As part of their preparations for the Fifa Women's World Cup in France this summer, the Super Falcons will take part in a four nations tournament scheduled to take place in Meizhou, China between January 17 and 21, 2019.
The other participating teams are two World Cup bound teams in the shape of hosts China and South Korea while Romania are the fourth nation.
Umotong is returning to the Nigeria fold after her shock omission from the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations roster.
In 2015, she was part of the Super Falcons squad to the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada but the number 11 was an unused substitute in the three group games.
This season, Umotong has scored two goals in the Women's Super League, most recently in a 2-0 win vs Liverpool, from 12 appearances.

A total of 23players have been called to camp for the upcoming four nationals tournament in China...
16 are already in Camp while 7 are still expected to arrive soon.
