Hello House.

Permit me to make this post. I would like to advice all applicants, to ensure that they make application fee payment themselves. In fact if someone would have to pay for you because of financial constraints, unfavorable exchange rate or whatever PLEASE ENSURE IT IS SOMEONE YOU KNOW VERY WELL. I have discovered that some people exploit this application payment thing to SCAM fellow Nigerians. Recently, I logged unto my application portal and discovered my APPLICATION WAS WITHDRAWN BEFORE DECISION WAS MADE. Upon mailing the grad cord. She told me I went to the bank to revert the payment, and thus my application is null.

I was all over the place. Apparently, the person I asked to make the payment for me had other ideas about how to double his gain. This is very bad because I loose in two ways; A bad reputation with the school and wasted resources in terms of scores, transcript and recommendation sent.

I believe my post will save an APPLICANT OUT THERE, because recently this same thing happened to my friend. Different agent made payment, but the same end game. Let us consider future generations and future applicants. WHAT IF NIGERIANS GET BLACK LISTED FROM US SCHOOLS?.

Someone might say that is not possible, But do a search and you will discover there is a list of countries that US schools are skeptical and wary of, whenever a citizen makes an application from them. Nigerians are already perceived as dubious, con stars and fraudsters.

PLEASE, I BEG THOSE PERPETRATING THESE KIND OF EGREGIOUS AND UNNERVING ACTIONS TO STOP!!!

let us restore the GOOD OLD DAYS OF INTEGRITY......Pay that application fee yoursefl!! embarassed undecided lipsrsealed

I wish everyone success, admission and funding come 2019.
sorry about this but you can make payments yourself. I pay for my application fee and even for GRE scores to be sent myself. We are in the world of "ease of doing business" and technology has made it easier these days.

Get a virtual dollar card via getbarter.co you can download the app to register. Flutter wave company partnered with an American bank to create virtual dollar cards for Africans to make international purchases. So be it amazon, international certifications or anything at all.
You can create your own card and choose either master or visa card and fund it through your own naira bank account and would be given the dollar equivalent. Their exchange rate is 365 when I made payment 2days ago

Then you are given the billing address etc which is the billing address of the American bank and you are good to Go.

You can make any international payment you want.

Hope this helps

Well checking essay for plagiarisms is not enough. You need to make a good structure, etc. I use https://artscolumbia.org/literary-arts/drama/essay-crucible-arthur-miller-42571/ for that. But still you need to check it well. Mentioning red cards.

Good morning house. Merry Christmas in advance. Normally, I wouldn’t ask this on a platform like this, but I ran out of options. I need to re-write the GRE cos I didn’t perform so well on the first. I don’t have enough money to re-register and time is running out. I even tried to sell my phone, but couldn’t get a buyer. I’ll appreciate anyone who can help me. Whatever you have will go a long way. BTW: I’ve been following this thread for about 2 years now, and I know I need to re-write the GRE cos my GPA isn’t stellar.

Thanks everyone.

My GRE experience:

Since my prep time was limited by the looming deadline, I focused more on quant, especially when I scored a fair 159 in verbal in my diagnostic test. Surprisingly my verbal score was higher than my quant in all my practice tests (Manhattan, Kaplan, powerprep 1 &2, paper test 1), ranging from 157- 159 while my quant was 154 - 156...
Prep Apps:
I downloaded "Ready4gre" (very good app for quick practice, it shows your expected scores based on performance and has leaderboards showing how you rank compared to other candidates. I remember RexCheeng also pointed it out)
Magoosh vocab app (used it sparingly, felt my verbal was good enough for a 155)

It's generally said that verbal is tougher than quant and even I felt that too. I started preparing like hell for Verbal. Even I'm using a high rated Vocabulary builder app and I'm enjoying learning from it. I observed the changes in my score as I took it serious in my preparation.

After you write the GRE what’s next? TOEFL.. After Toefl what’s next. GPA evaluation. after that what’s next. Applications. After application fees, you’ll send transcript to the USA..... Sir you need to man up get something doing seek family and friends because this “hustle” requires serous funds! After admission and funding sef! You’ll spend a fortune on flight, money for student fees, insurance, visa interview , buying stuff et al. If paying for GRE (45k) is the issue now, I’ll say go back to the drawing board and do your maths and permutations. Yankee no Dey run.

Ponpon... you seriously think I don’t know all of these right?? I should man up, isn’t it? It’s not your fault anyways. You see, there’s no strict order in getting your stuffs ready. What if I’ve done all of those and I just need to re-write the GRE to boost my chances. BTW, those that felt concerned already got in touch. Merry Christmas Sir.

Dude, there's nothing wrong in what he said, in fact, it's gold advice for the archives. Yankee no dey run! Even with fully funded offers people get denied visas. So, if you are having problems raising funds for common GRE resit, you better re-examine your aspirations because that's probably the cheapest aspect in all these, especially @ 45k.

Merry Christmas btw. It's not all about america.

You know what ponpon on a second thought, I think it is rude to tell me to get something doing, talk to family and all that. You don’t even know me or what I do. Seriously, at worst, you’ll let this slide if you are not willing to help. There are others here who believe differently and I’m glad they reached out. You want to know what next?? I’ll tell you. My plans will fall into place and I won’t have to re-do any maths or permutations ‘cos I did that already. You talk as if it’s all about maths and permutations and there are no surprises.Yankee no dey run.... ikr

Tough love! Hope they come through throughout the process. I wonder why someone would get offended on a faceless forum. It's anonymous so that one can handle truths in their convenience without getting embarrassed.

I've applied to six universities and I spent over $2,000 already. Perhaps, I shouldn't have paid for WES but I'm under no illusions, this thing isn't cheap. If all my applications required WES, that would've been an additional $300. Some unis even require official transcripts, which I paid 50k for that I didn't include. I haven't paid visa fees, I might get denied more than once even with travel history as it's quite common nowadays. Rich people with funded offers also get denied. There's also flight money, if visa gets approved. I also pay for internet and extra GRE score reports. Then the mother, living money, if your funding doesn't cover the recommended.

Get offended if you like, it doesn't distort facts that only your family or yourself would believe in you enough to pay for all these and give you bank statements for the visa.

Cpt. I appreciate all the story you shared with us. But I was referring to ponpon and not you. It’s okay to feel he’s right. I just don’t appreciate being talked down on faceless or not. For the love of Christ, I don’t know how this is difficult to understand. Do I need to come and start telling us ALL the things I’ve done and the money I’ve spent on my application? That I simply need to re-write and I don’t have the money for it NOW is now a problem. Like I said Cpt. I know the drill. It involves a lot of money, no denying about that and I’ve spent some to say the least. Thanks for your swift input tho.

Good day, please I need the assistance of anyone who can help, I currently decided to write GRE in the first week of February, I understand this is very short so please I would appreciate your advice. Which materials would you recommend for each section since I would just about a month of preparation.
Also, is there is any good center in PH where I can take GRE prep classes. i would really appreciate your assistance, I’m also reading through the thread. Thank you

Limited time you got there.
The Manhattan GRE books are the best,my perspective though. Start getting familiar with the word list provided for free by Magoosh App (GRE Flashcards ),you can get it on Google play.
There is no better way to prepare for test day than actually taking a mock test, train yourself to sit for three plus hours staring at a screen.First familiarize yourself with the test pattern, the Magoosh prep videos are really good for it,know what the sections are, approximately how much time to spend on each question and stick to it.
The only way to fire the gun properly now is by Practice practice and practice. The Manhattan 5lb book of GRE practice problems, Princeton GRE material, Kaplan GRE material, Manhattan GRE material are all really helpful.
For good prep GRE centers, maybe exam planet, cant really vouch for them cos I didn't use them. They are located at 460 Ikwerre road,Rumuokuta PH close to Genesis, you can check them out.
All the best.

Q150, V155, AWA 4.0; TOEFL 103/120
BSc 3.60/5.00 (3.31/4.0)- Geophysics
MSc 4.00/5.00 (3.36/4.0) - Geophysics

Who knows if this is competitive enough to get a PhD admit at UTexas, Austin (Geological sciences)?

I would suggest you look at profiles of admitted graduate geophysics students at UTexas on sites like gradecafe and also contact potential supervisors. If both seem hopeful then you should go ahead.
But I must also tell you the truth, "UTexas, Austin is indeed a big/competitive school"

You've got a really impressive profile but for your GRE score, I think you should consider giving the GRE another shot then you'll find yourself cruising in. The Quant Score is quite low for UT Austin. These are my thoughts based on admits I've seen on yocket tho.

Then I think you should contact this individual again with your updated profile.
I was faced with a similar situation (Pet Geology).
I was in contact with the POI at UTexas Austin, before GRE. When I got my score I informed the POI and she didn't check the mail for about 5 months, and hasn't replied till date (I use a free online mail tracker).
I just assumed she just couldn't reply again coz she wasn't interested anymore.
Your case may be different. Contact them and your POI may be interested in your vast research experience!

Wow congratulations boss! I also applied to IIT too with a similar profile as yours tho, but PhD in Chem Engineering. I'd like to ask if you applied for MSc or PhD. And also when did you apply?

Also IIT is a better school than, SIUC and WVU when it comes to ranking, location and funding opportunities, and job search. And there's really no much difference between IIT and Cincinnati.

Oh! By funding I mean funding for PhD tho. Securing MSc funding in the US is generally not an easy task. That was why I even tried applying for a PhD.

I think if you retake the GRE you should apply for a PhD program in other schools and you'll be sure to get funded.
