Nigeria is the source of such a huge number of scams because the Nigerian state is a complete failure at one of its most basic functions, namely the keeping of law and order. Couple this lawlessness with mass poverty and atrocious record keeping - so bad there has never been a trustworthy census since 1963 - and the conditions are ripe for scam artists to operate with impunity. Nigeria's status as a former British colony also means there are huge numbers of people who have at least a passing knowledge of English, which happens to be by far the most important first-world language; this means Nigerian scammers have a much broader range of targets than would-be scammers from, say, Mali or Senegal.

But I've always struggled to understand how people still fall for such gimmicks. Yet the video claims people are still being scammed to this day. Why?

Indeed the number of g-boys keep increasing

Americans are morons. They believe in get rich quick schemes. If you see the amount of money poor people spend on lottery tickets you would get your eyes checked. It's called a stupid tax by the wealthy because they know the odds are slim to none but you'll see poor people spend their last dollar on a lotto ticket with the hope of striking it big. Couple that with an inherit belief that Africans are "stupid" & "primitive" and you have the makings of a prime mark for swindling. As long as people believe it can be their "lucky day" for a free lunch Yahoo Boys will flourish.
