Hello NL computer gurus,

I recently installed Windows 10 Operating System on my Laptop having moved on from Windows 7. My experience using the new OS has been nothing short of thrilling as Windows 10 is far better than Windows 7 I have been used to ever since I learned how to use a computer independently.

However, I noticed that there seems to be a lot of Windows update going on in the system and my source of internet is through an HSPDA modem which has an Airtell SIM on it. Ultimately, it burns my data very fast.

I checked for how to set my Internet access as a metered connection but there seems to be no option for that (DialUp) except for Wifi.


Please is there any other way I can meter this connection so as to reduce what the OS does with it thereby stopping some not dire updates. Between yesterday and this morning, more than 1.8GB has already been burnt whereas what I have done with the system is simply writing and on Wordpress and basic browsing.

Please help me out.

Pls, how do I burn mp4 videos to CDs and DVDs on Windows 10 that will play on normal home theatre?
I've tried to no avail using ashampoo and Nero 7 burner which Used to work on previous windows.

Help my window 10 recently take forever to boot completely.. Almost takes 2 hours to boot to window and if it does, program or application does not open. It so slow that it takes forever to open anything. I have try to boot to safe mode, try system restore, try even format.... It will say cannot be found. Help what can I do

Usually I do this

Go to search,

Type "services "

Locate windows update

And right and select stop,

U can select start anytime u want to do system update.

If you are using WiFi as your source of Internet, you can easily set it as a metered connection so you OS won't be doing some not so needy updates with it.

However, if you are connected to the Internet via a USB Modem, it appears there is no way you can set the Internet connection as metered as it appears Windows only recognises it as a Dial-Up connection.

In all, assuming you have a software on your computer that uses data in the background without your knowledge, you can use Glasswire to monitor what and what uses your data. The software has is available both for PC and Android phones, very accurate, easy to understand, use and as well basically free.

You're right: stopping BITS and/or Windows Updates will automatically be started, however you can prevent such updates by ensuring you're on BATTERY SAVER mode when connected online. Don't be on AC and set your battery to be on saver.
You can use Data monitoring/firewall apps; I used Glasswire sometimes ago but you must activate now after 7days trial to use the firewall feature.

I didnt experience that when using windows 10 creator update, in fact a point my PC even refused to update because of the way I force stopped it, I had to restart more often,

I will check back with this October update and give u feedback, but stopping the service is usually d best option

Here is what i found with Glasswire when I did not set my Wifi connection as metered, the Windows Host Process ate up to 195MB when all i was doing was basic web surfing and writing, while Google Chrome browser was only using a reasonable amount of data which i indeed used.

Compare it to the following day when I set my Wifi connection as metered, see how much data the same Windows Host Process was now using while my Google chrome as always used what is fair enough.


So, I basically think, setting your Wifi connection as metered is one sure way around this.

I recently got the laptop and found out that only the 2.0 ports are working.
I don't know where to install the drivers but I've gone to control panel to update all USB drivers. They are already updated to the latest version.but the ports are not still working. They charge my phones but can't do more than that.

Secondly, my pc can't restart. But it can boot normally. But when I attempt to restart, it give me that reset option kinda stuff.
I want to know if it's a cause for alarm that is, if it's important a pc must be able to reboot.

Thirdly where can I get a graphics card for Hp 8460p.
It has Intel HD 3000.

Which one is it? If windows doesn't come on,how did you get to taskbar?
A Picture of your PC screen will help,is it showing blue screen or taking you to advance options?
If it takes you to advance options,do system restore. It's a software you installed that is causing incompatibility issue or a virus.

Restart is very important,it is different from turning off and putting on (booting) your PC. If you update windows,if the update requires restart,and you put off and put on your Pc,it will still say pending restart under windows update settings.
USB ports go bad,it might not be the driver. Except it was working perfectly before a new windows installation. Then you can say it's Driver problem.
Did you mean Graphics card or graphics driver? If it's display driver,just Google " Hp 8460P display driver" click on the result that has HP website link.

Chai,na wao,every small problem people ask for solution,you people will be saying format format. Don't you have any technical knowledge upstairs? Format should be a last resort. Infact the only reason you should format your system apart from upgrading to another O.S, is if your PC can't boot to desktop and you have tried every possible solution to no avail.
If your PC boots to desktop, believe me,you don't need formating,because you can access various troubleshooting options to solve your problem.

Do not stop the service, it'll restart automatically. when you right click, select disable instead of stop

Pls what do I do to my HP laptop? Recently when I plug in the charger,it charges for a while and then stops charging. It would tell me,"plugged in but not charging". And then the indicator lights alternates between red and the white colour that indicates battery full. Thanks as I anticipate your responses...

I disassembled my laptop for cleaning. After reassembling it, the screen would not not display anything. It's just blank. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cords, ram, hard drive, battery, multiple times, but it's still the same.
It's an Acer travelmate 7750g.
Please can someone help me with a solution

is your battery not getting hot whn charging.
probably ur battery is the cause

Hello nairalander, please can anyone suggest what I can do to my laptop, it keep consuming my data at 1.5mb/s despite deactivating auto update (by setting my network metered). I have tried all my best to detect the application that is consuming my data but couldn't see it.

Please what could be the problem? Even without browsing or using my laptop, it will drained up to 3gig in a very short period of time.

Also I noticed the system hang more more compare to before and I don't have much application on it

Please help me because I'm so fed up, I can't even use the system again due to this and it is affecting my project.

I will appreciate your assistance here. My Laptop is Dell with window 10
