New Minimum Wage: FG Sets Date For Transmission Of Bill To National Assembly by 13Ebiscoo: 3:31am On Jan 09, 2019
The Federal Government has finally set a date for the transmission of a bill for a new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

The move is aimed at stopping the organized labor from embarking on a strike about a month before the presidential election.

With the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate unions threatening a protest and a nationwide strike, the government on Tuesday agreed to send the bill on January 23.

The decision came after three days of talks.

Tuesday’s meeting held between 1 pm and 3:30 pm at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The labor unions agreed to the date but warned it would not tolerate a breach.

The national president of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, urged the government to keep to the date so that the process can be completed.

The FG has repeatedly dithered on the labour’s demand for a new wage figure, refusing to commit to N30,000 recommended by a tripartite committee.

HOW THE COUNTRY CAN PAY MINIMUM WAGE COMFORTABLY..........

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N45,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N65,000 comfortably

3. Move Nigeria MORE to Private Sector Driven Economy
a) Privatise ALL of Federal Govt PARASTATALS & reduce Federal Direct Funded AGENCIES to 68% of the present.
b) Privatise ALL of STATE Govt PARASTATALS & reduce State Direct Funded AGENCIES to 19% of the present.
c) Reduce current DIRECT LABOUR JOB participation by 49%
d) Encourage more Working Hours until Nigeria economic stabilizes
e) Discourage UNIONISM in Public Workforce

With (1) + (2) + (3), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N101,500 comfortably.

4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS.

With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA

I pity those people demanding for salary increase instead of an improved economy. Increased salary will definitely results in a rise in inflation. The result will be worse than the current salary. If the economy is sound and inflation curtailed, they could well manage with the current salary.

Yes he does, BUT, he doesn't read the unreasonable wails of haters!
We are not talking about critics who are genuinely concerned about a better Nigeria,. You will know them because when they see good efforts of government they applaud.
But the children of hate only see negative things that their eyes have been programmed to see!
Ok bye!

nice one. leaders of nlc and most unions have been caged. workers have been deceived. as at now, workers cannot fight for themselves masses and it will be masses that will fight for better economy in the future.

N30000 is still inadequate in my opinion.

If governors truly want strong economic growth they should start by paying adequate wages (N70,000 at least), Attract both Local and foreign investments, make sure most of the wages are spent in their states.

The agreement should be on condition that workers don't spend most of their wages on things that are produced outside their states.

My worries...
It's only 25% of States can afford to pay this amount, NLC to me is a fraud and politicians fighting tool, FG only agreed to buy more votes and most *current* government workers deserve less.

Meanwhile, we need quick solution to this bump
