hello fellow Nairaland.
I don't really intend to blow my own horn, that's why I have been restrained about making this thread.but I seriously can't keep quite anymore,I need clarifications on what I would be doing in the next 6 to 7 years.

I am a jamb aspirant.
I initially wanted to study pure physics in the university because I was quite talented in maths and physical concepts and as expected I am in love with physics.but things changed.

being extremely good in all the sciences and even art(quite a bit of an all rounder) I decided to fill in medicine.

but recently while studying,my love for physics is so overwhelming that I am wondering if I would be able to live without doing maths and physical sciences in school.

but I have heared rumours that medical students still calculate,is this true,

and if it is University specific,I applied Uniben.I sincerely need your help and clarifications.

replied will be highly appreciated.

I wish there was a course like Biomedical Engineering in Nigeria.

wait is it possible to do a postgraduate on biomedical engineering outside the country after I finish my undergraduate course in medicine.

Why the hell must u study medicine? It seems like u are forcing yourself or somebody is forcing you. U must not become a Doctor to be fulfilled in life. It's obvious u are passionate about physics and math then why not study something related to them like an engineering course. Don't confuse yourself.

We really get problem 4 Naija o

To ur question; it depends on school, year one medical students do the basic science courses. Some do maths and some don't. After 100 level u say bye to all those ones. Then u start doing basic medical courses in 200 level

thank you so much
for these advice ,the truth is that I'm really not being pushed by anyone.
my parents really welcomed the idea of me going to study physics.
I on my own, declined because I felt I was cut out for medicine being good in all the sciences.

but during the course of my studies my love for math and physics is so heightened that I am now contemplating having to leave it at some point in my life.

maybe I can put up with loving it as a hubby.

was in your shoes... quite a brilliant person shall, but exceptional in Physics and Mathematics... went for an Engineering program but could not graduate, decided to pick another UTME form and the push for Medicine was so high. every body around me wanted me to go for medicine including my parents... consulted more experienced people, both Medical Dictators and Engineers and finally went for engineering again. from his I will tell you engineering is for you. if you know you are good in mathematics and physics, then don't GI for any of them, go for engineering and thank me later. school will be fun for you and you will enjoy it. It's a very interesting field to study, far more interesting than both Physics and Mathematics. Your choice of career should be about passion and capacity.

I was exactly in your shoe when I left high school. In fact my first jamb I choose medicine but later reconsider engineering. I'm currently studying engineering and I love it.
I think u need engineering.

Students of medicine only study physics and mathematics in 100level. After that, it's a fare-well to both. In fact, many schools don't include mathematics as a course in 100level for their medical students.

The only mathematics you will meet beyond 100level is mainly on statistical problems.

I will strongly advice you to do proper counselling and consultation before you conclude on your choice. You mustn't study medicine. Other courses may offer you a better future full of joy and satisfaction than medicine.

Just do proper counselling and consultation.

Lol see this funny guy. I've been running from maths since primary school. That subject is my worst nightmare, too annoying and confusing. I found myself having English and Literature as my field of interest.
I can barely solve a quadratic equation in two hours but can interpret a Shakespearian literary work in few minutes.

Life is just funny.

If you follow your passion for literature you will one day become the next literary giant, its all about knowing your passion and abilities.

I'm in love with literature too by the way.
