*EKITI STATE NEW TEACHERS*

c/o Ekiti Tescom, State Secretariat,Ado.

AN ADDRESS PRESENTED AND READ TO INVITED JOURNALISTS ON THE NEW TEACHERS EMPLOYMENT STATUS WITH THE EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT AT ADO EKITI, TODAY FRIDAY 8TH FEBRUARY, 2019.

>The invited jounalist here present,
>My fellow Teachers here present,
>Ladies and gentle men.

I am standing here this morning to address the gentle men of the press as professionals that educate and inform the public on various happenings around our environment and people. I am representing the over 500 Teachers employed towards the end of the immidiate past administration in the state and to be precise, we were appointed on September 28th,2018. We are secondary School Teachers and are thereafter posted to schools majorly in the rural areas and have all reported to our various stations since October, 2018 till date.
We are calling the press today on a number of issue emanating from the said dates that we considered unfavorable to us and we shall outline them one after the other to put the record straight, educate and inform the general public on our plights and seek the sympathy of all Ekiti for us and begged for their intervention and appeal to the good Government of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.
Firstly, we have to say for the records that the last Government did advertised the vacancies we applied for on the media and various Notice boards in the ministries and parastatals. It was on record that over 48,000 application form were sold for the 2,000 people the last Government intended to employ.
Limiting ourselves to the Teaching service commission that employed us for Ekiti state Government; we sat for qualifying examinations in six towns in the state and after which they (Tescom) pasted the cut off marks for each subject and applicants to be considered.( See the attached table of cut off marks) Interview was later conducted for people that scored up to or above cut off marks and eventually led to the engagement of just over 500 Teachers out of thousands that applied.
Secondly, we have to let you journalist and the general public know that since then, the Ekiti state Government have not in any way officially communicate any message to us. An interesting thing was that the present administration started with the payment of October 2018 salary on assumption of office and that same month happened to be the first month we were due for payment. Between October 2018 to date Ekiti state Government have paid five months salaries and have not paid a Kobo to us.
Thirdly, we want to say that since no department of Government have communicated with us, and after going through a lot of painful experiences financially going to work, we felt among ourselves to start talking to our direct employer (Tescom) and Government.
Please, we want to put on records that we have:
1. Sent representatives to the permanent secretary of Tescom severally but have not gotten any official pronouncements on our status and salaries.
2.We have sent letter to the permanent secretary , Tescom as a group to intervain on our behalf with Government.
3. We wrote a letter to the wife of the Governor to seek audience with her and have not received a reply.
4. We wrote letter of appeal and intervention to Kings and Notable Ekiti indigenes.
5. We have visited the Kabiyesi *ONISAN*, *BISHOP FELIX FEMI AJAKAYE, FORMER GOVERNOR BAMIDELE OLUMILUA, LEADERSHIP OF ASUSS EKITI STATE.* among others to help
appeal to the Government to pay us and make the work easy for us to do.
6. We did a jingle and aired it on radio to congratulate the Governor on his 100 days;and to remind him to place us on Ekiti payroll.
7. We organized a peaceful procession around the Secretariat to identify with the Governor on his 100 days ,appealing to him and assuring him of our supports.
8. We wrote an open letter to the Governor begging him to look on us mercifully.
Finally, we are addressing this press conference today to continue in our plea to the Governor and the Government of Ekiti state. We like to state that we are all Ekiti sons and daughters. We are not partisan, we believed we were qualified for the job given to us by the state Government.
We are using this forum to appeal to all Nigerians and in particular all Ekitis to rise up and appeal to Government to temper Justice with mercy.
We are calling on all Ekiti Obas through the chairman Obas council, the Oloye of Oye Ekiti to help appeal to Government
We are calling on all APC leaders at the National and State levels to appeal to Government of Ekiti on our behalf.
We are calling on the mother general in Ekiti, Erelu Bisi Fayemi to help us her children out.
We are appealing to the various Teachers unions in the state to Wade in at this point and help us out.
Please, our final appeal is that the Government should validate our appointments of 28th September,2018. Conduct biometric screening for us and pay the four months salary arears we are due for.
We are ready and agile for the various roles assigned to us in our various Schools as we had been doing.
Thank you for listening and God bless you all.

STILL ON THIS ISSUE....

Gentlemen of the press, our dear Ekiti people, and everyone here present, on behalf of the esteemed newly employed teachers of Ekiti State, permit me to bring to your notice that we were majorly posted to the public secondary schools in the rural areas of Ekiti State, and over the past 4months of hard work without pay, a lot has happened to us mentally, physically and financially, which ranges from extreme poverty, illnesses, accidents, and even death of our loved ones.

We have long exhausted the meagre resources we had on transportation, traveling to and from our various place of work every work day of the week for 4months, without being paid salary.
- We couldn't provide for our families because we are in diverse financial constraint, yet we work diligently without being paid salary.

- Some of us have lost our loved ones because we are unable to afford medical bills.

- Some of us are accident victims on our way to our places of work, and we are now financially grounded in hospitals because we haven't been paid at all.
- Most of our children are out of school due to our inability to pay their tuition fees, and in all these, we yet make ourselves available at our various place of work, teaching in classrooms everyday for 4months.

All these among others has happened to us just because we took our jobs seriously and we are undoubtedly dedicated to being pivotal to the educational growth of our beloved Ekiti State.
But now, practically, we are beggars and borrowers, this bored a frightful hole in our hearts and it had a gruesome effect on our families.

Numerically, we are above 500, each of us represents a whole family, and each family represents an entire generation.
Therefore, with weary and humble heart we are begging Ekiti people, ho.e and abroad, our leaders at various government levels and The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to hearken and rise to our cries and supplications and do the needful as soon as possible because;

We are sons and daughters of Ekiti.
We are teachers employed through a due process.
We are educated, certified and qualified.
And we are not politicians.

Ekiti o ni baje o.

Thanks, and God bless us all.

@Noc# During his campaign, he said it to everybody's hearing that he will not recognise those employed by Fayose during his exit moments..........
But you are a wicked soul, while will such come out of u? The Constitution says the governor will be dere for a period of 4years not a period of election to election, imagine if u were among those employed or ur family members are there will u tell me they should be sent off? Why is the governor not collecting the vehicles issued out after election? Or while is he not reversing all activities done by him after election...... Nigerian politics has turn to politics of bitterness.......pls tell him to absorb his pple, since they are from Ekiti and not from another state entirely, in his speech he said he didn't came for revenge neither to abandon the projects left by the previous adminstration......
So my people relax and all shall be will, I believe you are great teachers and great leaders kudos to you all

Look at the so called future of the country? Ask this apartheid fo*l now what he does for a living and there won't be any cogent response.

If Fayemi knows he is not going to pay them, why did he allow them to continue working? Honestly the best thing that will be forever celebrated in Nigeria is to gather all zombies and execute them. With that, Nigeria will be free from idiots who glorifies mediocrity

The question we need to is some set of workers were also employed by Fayemi during is first term That were sacked by the last administration. So i think the right thing to do is to call back those workers first.because they were properly engaged by the Government. Then any other vacancy can be filled by the Newly engaged workers.or do we allow the New ones while asking the old ones sacked unjustifiable to sit at home: Karma

Blame Fayose for the shady appointments.

Our leaders dont think about future. Past FG made unrealistic promises to ASUU which have been causing strikes yearly. The present FG has added to the empty promises which in future would be hard for the government to meet up.

I read some comments and i all i see is bias. Everyone knows that the employments was mischievous, Fayose did it on purpose to create burden for the present government when it was obvious to him that pdp will not win the election. Instead of lamenting no payment they should quit and go and look for job else where all Fayose should set up a school from the money he stole and pay them.

Let's not forget that Fayose collected Paris club loans to pay government worker but he never did and Fayemi came to be paying those arrears, we shouldn't expect him to add extra burden to it if he feels he's not capable.

Notting like burden but he known himself that this school really needs teachers and he promise that from match employment form will be out . This our leaders are just using us to play politics. This just playing revenge game with the life of common citizen

*THE BAD ERROR OF EKITI POLITICS*.

I was a higher institution student when EKITI was created in 1996. One of our pride then was that the state is the only homogeneous state in the federation. As soon as politics started in 1999, the whole scenario changed. Ekiti have since been battling with a lot of troubles ranging from rotation of power among senatorial divides, Party Supremacy, Egoism, Winner takes it all mentality, Godfathering, sectionalism, Unhealthy rivalry and loyalty, Unimaginable popularity contest and an attempt to destroy the persona, ideals, legacies and overall achievement of any outgoing or outgone Governor. Worst of all is the question of who is your Biological father when it comes to sharing appointment whether secular or political. Few days ago at Ikere, four of us were at the resident of the former Governor still on our struggle for the recognition and validation of our very stressful and hard earned appointments. The erstwhile First lady asked us to introduce ourselves, she was curious to know your clan and quarter from the same Ikere where we all come from. My case was funny, She asked, Omoyeni from Odo oja, Uro or Oke Ikere, all in the same town. Then making me to look different from fellow comrades together on one course.
This kind of description or question to me is undermining what democracy stand for in the state. Where is the Glory of homogeneity when we can not see ourselves as one secularly and particularly when under a constituted government. For how long shall we continue to disrespect the constitution in the name of party politics. The name of any Governor is not written in the constitution but the duties of Governor was clearly spelt out therein. Ekiti should be one, discrimination should stop. How can a people be employed for five months and working in a state jointly fought for and owned by our fathers still be begging for inclusion on payroll. Where are the Elders of Ekiti?, where are the elites?, where are the true democrats?. Please Ekiti people should rise up and defend our collective destiny. 500 employee since last year working and not remunerated are too many to be so treated unjustly. Let the Government set up a true panel of enquiry on the appointments and let them ask for memoranda from public, mandate the panel to investigate and interrogate the beneficiaries and just in one week, the problem will be solved. Ekiti will make progress. As humans, there is a limit to our patience. Enough of blame game, enough of time wasting, enough of unnecessary risk of life of innocent people. Let the right thing be done now. Let us prevent any unrest that may break out, we have tried our best to make our people calm.

Thanks.
