I have a Bachelor's in Information field with a CGPA of 4.404/5.000. I want to go for PhD.
Please help me suggest schools that can grant me admission to their PhD programme with my B.Sc.
Thanks.
Your GPA is fine, as long as your GRE scores and other supporting documents are good.
Maybe if you can drop a complete profile, you'll get a list of schools.

Please can a 2.2 degree do MSc in USA? If yes, please someone should help me out with schools that has tuition fee of less than $10,000?

My uncle there said I should apply for undergraduate and then come over first but I don't know if my age of 30 for UG will be frowned by their VO's?

Please what other supporting documents do you need?

As for my profile:
I graduated from a top (really top private university in 2013).
I want to take the GRE this year; what score can get me full funding please?
I'm looking at doing a PhD in Library and Information Science or Information Science/ Studies in a US university; from B.Sc to PhD.

I'm not really sure about the first question but check out some schools in Texas. Some schools accept 2:2 but it always depend on the CGPA itself. Try evaluating using WES and see what it comes down to.

30 is a big red for undergraduate. It'd greatly be frowned upon as you'd directly be telling them that you're an intending immigrant.

No score can guarantee you funding. It's a relative sturvs. Try to aim for at least 315+ as this would increase your chances of getting funding.

You need to check schools offering your course, majority of schools in the US accept direct PhD using BSC.

From the statement you made that ''you are making moves'', I guess you have not been admitted yet.

I have few questions for you.

a. Have you written any standardize test?
b. Do you have good score to get funding? (Even though funding are mostly available in Fall)
c. Have you evaluated your transcripts?

The month of ''May'' from now is less than 3 months, which makes it a bit hard considering the time frame.
The main thing is getting admitted to your school of choice first before considering embassy.

For now I will advice you apply and get admission first before worrying about the embassy. Quite a few schools still have summer application open for now.
You can apply to the embassy even within 30 days to resumption, but applying two months ahead gives you enough time to prepare & even reapply should you be denied on your first attempt. There is no rule of thumb that it must be 2 months before resumption.

Follow this:

1. Search for schools that offers your choice of course and suit your career goal.
2. Check their admission requirement.
3. Apply to atleast 2, 3 or more. ( spread your risk)
4. If admitted. Order for your I20 form.
5. Fill your form DS 160 accurately and correctly.
6. Pay SEVIS fee atleast 3 days before going to the embassy for interview.
7. Pay Visa fee.
8. Prepare very well for your interview. Go to the embassy with these documents or more as it apply to you.

1. Appointment letter
2. Nonimmigrant Visa - Confirmation Page (DS-160)
3. Visa fee receipt (GTB)
4. Original I-20
5. SEVIS I-901 payment confirmation
6. International passport
7. Birth certificate
8. (1) 2X2 passport
9. Diploma or degree Cert.
10. Standardized test scores (if applicable)
11. Admission letter.

9. Get your Visa and then travel within 30 days before the resumption date on your I20

This is my little advice. I think it will be better if you focus on fall admission session. It all depends on you.

I believe the gurus will add or remove from it.

Gracias!
Very much useful

I posted my transcript about F2 visa rejection in Lagos a couple of weeks ago. I decided to reapply immediately, and I was able to get a date in Abuja. The screening process was quite long and tedious compared to Lagos. Also, my baby was a bit restless, so I kept moving back and it took a while for my turn. This is the transcript of the interview as I can remember it;

VO: Good afternoon.

Me: Good afternoon Ma.

VO: Pass me your passport.

I gave her our passports and I-20s. She took her time to go through the I-20 and typed for a while.

VO: Where is husband studying?

Me: He is studying Molecular Biology in the University of ABC.

VO: How long have you been married?

Me: We have been married for 4 years it will be 5 years in a few months.

VO: How many children do you have?

Me: We have one child.

VO: Has he visited since he left?

Me: Yes, he visited us in August of last year.

VO: I can see that there is a shortfall in the living expenses on the I-20, how do you pay the rest?

Me: My husband has full funding and we have some personal savings.

She excused herself and left the cubicle with the passport and I-20 for about 5 minutes. While she was away, I was worried that maybe she was not convinced about the funding. Therefore, when she came back, I quickly said;

Me: I have the funding letter from his school here, would you like to see it?

VO: That wouldn’t be necessary (while smiling).

VO: Was he working before he left for the United States?

Congrat madam

VO: What will you be doing in the U.S?

Me: I will be busy raising my child as well as providing physical and emotional support for my husband.

VO: Have you traveled before?

Me: No, I have not had a reason to travel.

VO: Do you or your husband have any relatives in the United States?

No: We don’t have any relatives in the U.S.

VO: I will be approving your visa. Please excuse me I need to get a document for you.

Me: Thank you Ma. (I few tears of joy rolled down from my eyes.)

She left and came back with a document containing instruction for student visa applicants stating that students are only allowed to enter U.S 30 days before the start of the program and not after the start date on the I-20. It also contains a reminder to take along and present I-20 at the port of entry.

I give all praises and thanks to Almighty Allah. I prayed fervently, did several mock interviews, and prepared written answers to likely questions. I big thank you to everyone on this thread. I learned a lot from here. By the way, I use full hijab that covers me from head to toe. I hope this will encourage and be useful for someone.

Good morning everyone, I am new here. Please forgive me if my questions sound stupid.
I am in my late twenties with a First Class degree in chemical engineering. (,4.57) CGPA.
I was told I could get PHD with funding in the US.
I want to major in renewable/sustainable energy
My questions are :
1. Which schools in the US would offer such with full funding
2. Do I need to write GRE
3.which between TOFEL/IETLS is widely acceptable as I don't want to limit my search to US alone
4. Lastly but most importantly, can I stay back in the US after studies.
Thanks in anticipation of your response

First off, welcome here.

1. Many schools offer funding but you need to research that yourself. Google the exact string you have in question 1 and you'd be shocked with the number of schools that offer such.

2. Many schools waive GRE for MSC but for a PhD and to get a relatively higher chance of funding, the general cliche is to write the GRE and bag a high score. There's a thread for GRE on the education section.

3. TOEFL is preferred but, many schools waive it for Nigeria now.

4. Yes, you can stay behind, depending on you.

What efforts have you put in searching for information about these questions? I will suggest you search what schools offer your field of interest, read through their websites, then seek clarification on things that are not clear to you.
