I am in my penultimate year studying Physiology at the University of Ibadan, I have gotten Jamb's UTME form in which I applied to study dentistry at ABU, Zaria, should I concentrate more on the UTME (Since the job prospects of Physiology are few) or take the Physiology seriously?

Well you have two options.

1. Take your Physiology serious and finish with a good result. Afterwards proceed to pick direct entry for dentistry which would start you at 200 Level. Doing this would mean you won't mobilize for nysc.

2. Take jamb as back up so either way, you may get one out of the two

Guy as for me concenterate more on utme o, dentistry is just like med when it comes to job prospects, provided u can sacrifice the years and the financial requirements which am sure u can. Also studying botany in Abu but wanna go into medicine via Jamb.

Thanks for your prompt answer, I believe one has to present an NYSC discharge certificate before one can be considered for direct entry.

No you don't have to, because you are going back to school.
It's only when you are to study for a Pgde, master's or PhD that you have to provide your discharge certificate. So this would save you time.

If you doubt my information, you can check the requirement for direct entry for dentistry at any university of your choice. Check the jamb brochure, Google it online or ask questions at the faculty officer of your prospective course.

Why should he start from year two ? Don't physiology students take the same course with dentistry, anatomy and medicine?

That's actually the norm. If admitted via DE one goes to 200L; if via UTME, one begins from 100L.

Just like one of the posters above said, focus on finishing with a good grade in physiology and then pick up jamb form for direct entry into Dentistry..I know someone who graduated from physiology and later got admitted into mbbs through direct entry in U.I and a others who got admitted into Dentistry via jamb after a first degree.

Why I said 200 level is he would take jamb direct entry form and if he is fortunate once given admission he would start from 200l. But if he does jamb and post time he would start 100l if given admission

I know all that but why would a medical student especially physiology graduate start from year two in medicine when he had done most of the courses with medicine students?

Its the admission policy, Direct entry for most courses in Nigeria is year 2. It's very rare to see them start you on year 3.

Hmmm!. The courses taken by physiology and medicine students are they the same?
Re: Taking Physiology Seriously Or Getting Dentistry by Nobody: 6:26pm On Feb 25, 2019
Speak to your course adviser if you can cross over to Dentistry in UI.
It's possible but it is dependent on your grade

In all honesty no.

No we don't get to do everything with the Medicine guys. The ones we do together are Physiology(we go in depth than they do), Anatomy(sometimes we get to answer the same questions), the Biochemistry is somewhat different (Medicine guys get to do stuffs like Xenobiotics etc) and Pharmacology. And that's the most we do together.

I'm in 300L(you don't cross when you go beyond 200L in UI. At least I have not seen any).

I've gotten the UTME form already, would be writing the exam in a couple of weeks if, hopefully, it doesn't clash with any of my exams at the UI.

Zaria's dentistry is in its 1st year. Don't bother with it yet.
Finish your physio and use it for a Direct Entry

Why didn't you cross after your 200L. Or they don't allow you guys cross from physiology to medicine? Didn't anyone in your set cross?

University of Ibadan is quite an unpredictable institution. About 8 people crossed from my class. I wasn't on a first class, that nullified my crossing to Medicine or Dentistry.

3 crossed to Medicine, 2 Dentistry, 2 Physiotherapy and 1 Nursing.

Reverse was the case the year before and after my set, people on 2.2 crossed in some instances. It all boils down to the dynamism of the University of Ibadan.

We'll be fine last last.
