Baba first ask yourself these questions
Which job do you think the average Nigerian can be doing in an office in a skyscraper in the country's current situation?
With our population per city in Nigeria, how do you think buying and selling won't continue to be a major source of employment for Nigerians?
Do you know how much most traders generate from these buying and selling businesses?
I just want to ask this question, is working in a hotel a white collar job?
Give few examples of these white collar jobs you speak of

Yes, under the current nigerian situation, everybody will still be engaged in buying and selling for a very long time until DRASTIC changes are made. Working in banks and hotels is the only white collar jobs available in nigeria. But, in western countries, bank and hotel jobs are not known as white collar jobs. Like I said in my earlier post, if I'm retired today, my next assignment will be studying the kinds of white collar jobs they have in these office towers. It really won't be that hard, because when you enter the front lobby of these office towers, the names of all the businesses in the building are displayed on a directory board. It used to be so easy to go into the buildings and just take the elevator to wherever you want to go. But because of the security and terrorism situation, almost all the downtown office towers have security guards. So, these days, when you go inside and want to go upstairs, the security guards will require you to sign in your name and deposit an ID card. Sometimes, they might even have to call the company you're visiting to get permission to let you up.

The chinese transformed their economies by understanding how western economies operate starting from the early eighties. Back then, most chinese were also engaged in agriculture and in buying and selling. There was absolutely no big chinese cities with major skyscrapers except their capital Peking. Everything changed for the chinese when american companies, in their quest for cheap labour and to have access to a billion population market started moving their manufacturing factories to china. For more than a decade, china was the manufacturing hub for the world. American, and european companies flooded there for all their manufacturing needs. By hook or by crook, china was able to get access to sensitive american and european technology which they have since harnessed for their own good. It was after the manufacturing boom in china that chinese cities filled with skyscrapers started springing up overnight. Nowadays, china have the best of everything that you have in western countries. They have big technology and internet companies. They have light and heavy duty manufacturing. And yes, they now also have office jobs with hundreds of skyscrapers dotting the skyline of their spanking new cities.

We have manufacturing jobs but they pay poorly making it a left over for people unable to get federal government and oil company jobs. Traders are generally richer than highest paid employees of corporate organizations because Nigeria is yet to attain corporate trading which kills the profitable petty trading we do. In those American cities, few corporate organizations own everything and employ others to work for them whereas here in Nigeria everything is still run at sole proprietorship level.

Exactly right on all your points. People engage in petty trading because there's no alternative or the alternative is not enough to sustain ones livelihood. The first step in trying to organize the chaotic, fractious, disorganized nigerian environment is through LEGISLATION.

It has to be gradual though, because it will lead to mass unemployment. But, there's two we can start tomorrow. Let the igbo states house of assemblies pass a law mandating every child from the age of 5 to 18 to be enrolled in school. Not only making it mandatory, but also making it illegal which will criminalize it with prison sentences for parents who refuse to abide by the law. After the legislation is assented by the governor, they should then pass another law banning hawking by people of school age group, 5 to 18 years.

Hawking is something that should be totally and completely banned, but they should start with school age children before extending it to everyone else.

Okorocha has not commissioned projects cause he considers it unnecessary hence you hardly see him doing that not to talk of with fanfare. What you showed as flyover in Owerri is fake just like the other photos. It can only deceive those who have not been there.

Sir, can u sincerely answer the question about that flyover said to be substandard? I've heard about it and even saw it when I visited IMO state.

Most of these skyscrapers are usually used for Free lancing, residential apartments, head offices of various small business mostly IT firms, restaurants at the bottom floors etc.
Buying and selling in Nigeria is good business and the best thing we can do to make it more attractive is switch to build more appealing and descent markets, such markets made of a combination of malls built next to each other to make up the market & banning street trading and hawking at areas near such markets. As for manufacturing, our governors in the east must introduce a system or policy whereby both foreign and indigenous enterprises are given 1 year tax holiday after the commencement of production for the first time.

You are dead wrong on the first part of your comments, especially the use of skyscrapers for freelancing, residential apartments and head offices of small businesses. It's true that some restaurants occupy the ground floors of some of the multi story office buildings, but my estimate based on observation, is that, it's less than 5%. Same as what you described as residential apartments, which is mostly condos (condominium). I've actually seen more print shops on the ground floors than restaurants.

Skyscrapers cost millions of dollars to build, so, freelancing is totally out of the question. Why would real estate companies borrow millions of dollars to build freelancing stuff. You know, commercial and residential properties in western countries are built by real estate developers.

You are also wrong about the skyscrapers being headquarters of small businesses. Washington DC being the headquarters of lobbying, means that they have lots and lots of law firms who represent clients that lobby on capitol hill. But majority of the companies that occupy those office towers are engaged in buying and selling, but not of physical goods, but ideas and other products like services to multi national, multilateral companies and corporations. This exactly why I keep telling you guys that their economies have advanced beyond buying and selling of physical goods. Millions and millions of their people are employed in downtown office towers doing these kinds of work as described.

And finally, there's really no money in buying and selling with thousands of people basically dealing in the same products. I've observed nigerian traders going to the market for an entire day without seeing any customers. I have family friends who deal in generators that sell one or two generators a day. That kind of business will not last more than one month in western countries.

Abagworo is a 20k monthly propagandist. He lies even when you shows him pictures, he is not interested in the wellfare of mostly poor Imolites but his own pocket. If you want to know the truth ask anyone else but not this poverty inflicted old man called abagworo. Okorocha started 2 flyovers, see one of them below, it is in this condition despite the massive debt hanging on Imo state. See the most recent pictures of the flyover even with the recent iron decorations.

This happened last night in Owerri.

Imo state is synonymous with bad news. Imo state is equally an insecure jungle filled with armed robbers and prostitutes. So much insecurity all over Imo state. It is very unsafe to reside in Imo state, no wonder most of them ran away from the state, only visiting once in a year. Abagworo over to you.

At least Nnewi is far better than Owerri. Till date 2/3rd of Imolites are resident in Anambra where they see as their greener pasture whereas there is no single Anambran resident anywhere near Imo state. See Owerri below. Look at how dilapidated filthy and disorganized Owerri is. Okoroawusa is a curse to Imo state. He wasted 8yrs only to turn Owerri to backward unsafe dungeon filled with poverty, insecurity, kidnappers, and prostitutes. . Okoroawusa failed woefully in his 8 wasted years as a governor tongue

Imo state is a very poor state with some of the poorest people in Igbo land but Okorocha wasted millions of dollars to acquire an air craft from Dana. This same aircraft Okorocha commissioned with so much fanfare has been abandoned in the forest, just look at the waste Okorocha brought just because he wanted to massage his ego at the expense of mostly poverty infested Imolites. Despite the huge debt hanging on Imo state there is nothing reasonable anywhere on ground to show for it. Vote wisely or Imo state shall continue to be a backward, useless, worthless state. Abagworo come and earn your pay by defending this. cool

Nowadays, china have the best of everything that you have in western countries. They have big technology and internet companies. They have light and heavy duty manufacturing. And yes, they now also have office jobs with hundreds of skyscrapers dotting the skyline of their spanking new cities.
The basic reason why the West has such large number of skyscrapers is because they largely operate a formal economy while ours is informal. Now, the factors that brought about this massively developed economy include high purchasing power of the people, great and superb infrastructure, a huge GDP, high level of enlightenment etc. Some of these factors I mentioned are the reasons why some capital cities in Africa such as Nairobi, Cairo, Jo'burg, Cape Town, Durban, Lagos, Dakar, Tunis, Algiers, Luanda and a few others have a semblance of such skyline as obtains in the West. The major reason militating against the development of such skyline in Nigeria is absolute lack of infrastructure especially electricity, low purchasing power, low GDP etc. Cost of land in densely populated areas like Lagos, Abuja and the SE is enough reason for property owners to start building high-rise buildings but lack of electricity won't allow this. In Aba and Onitsha for instance, there are large numbers of 4 and 5 storey buildings that all use stair case only. These property owners would have started building upwards of 7 to 10 storey buildings if there is 24 hours non stop power supply to support elevators. However, the local economy is still evolving and lots of Western type jobs are being done in Nigeria of late. Using myself as example, I am a freelancer living in Owerri yet delivering projects for clients all over the world while I also run a computer sales outlet. I dress corporately to work despite that my outlet may be semi informal. Same thing is happening across Nigeria but they represent a small fraction of the total population. Some buildings, schools, offices et al in London, Paris, Washington etc are over 500 years old while Nigerian cities only emerged in early to middle of 20th century. The major reason why Enugu and Owerri are more beautiful than other cities in the SE is because they were the capitals of old Anambra and Imo states respectively thus they started much earlier to evolve before others like Awka, Abakailiki and Umuahia. If these cities were capitals the same period Owerri and Enugu were, they would have been at par with them too. Igboland already has enablers for proper development such as high rate of education/enlightenment, relatively high purchasing power, city proximity to one another etc so what needs to be done is to massively improve on the infrastructure and GDP.

Stop posting rubbish. Owerri is a jungle and worst place in the SE, there's nothing beautiful about this dungeon. Even Aba is not in this bad condition as Owerri. Stop spewing nonsense all the time. Owerri has no meaningful establishment except prostitution which forms the economic mainstay of the state. Enugu, Awka, Abakaliki, Umuahia and Asaba are all ahead of Owerri. Aba used to be at the same level of infrastructure with Owerri but with the recent improvements done in Aba it has since overtaken Owerri infrastructural wise.

You guys from Imo state should develop your state so that your people can stay back to build the economy instead of running to Onitsha for economic survival where most Imo people invade in millions as their greener pasture.. There's hardly middle-class in imo state because is either you are a prostitute or an armed robber. There's no single decent private company in owerri outside the mostly unpaid civil servants. Raising family in Imo state is almost impossible because of social vices, no wonder you hardly see any sane family relocating to Imo state, except it's prostitutes, armed robbers and mad people.

Honestly, I feel sorry for you. How you have decided to live your life in misery, bitterness and frustration when you can simply live a normal life is what beats me. I don't need to be a psychologist to know what you are passing through. Nobody showed you love while you were in your formative years and you grew up with it thinking that the society hates you. I don't know specifically how terribly your parents/guardians treated you or if you grew up in the streets, but you need urgent help. It is never too late to live a normal life devoid of self hate and bitterness. Your type are those that end up committing suicide and the truth is that you are fast approaching that critical stage where suicidal tendencies becomes overwhelming.
I'm only giving you an advice because I know that your situation can still be salvaged only if you decide today to help yourself.
Thank you and may God help you.

Tochukwu, I honestly feel your pain and frustration but i am here to stay to make sure you low lives are put in your place.

Yes Owerri is pigsty jungle and no amount of your propaganda here will change it.

You type out of inferiority complex commit suicide because you lack love. You are a hopeless Owerri resident, a young man like you residing in Owerri of all places shows that you are despicable and hopeless in life. Owerri is meant for prostitutes, armed robbers and kidnappers, from there they launch attacks on wealthy residents of other rich states. No normal humanbeing resides in Owerri. There's nothing happening in Owerri except commercial sex hawking.

I am giving you advice, leave Owerri so that you will not die of frustration and hopeless and poverty. Your condition is now horrible and you need help urgently since imo state is now a pariah worthless state.

I don't need to be a psychiatrist or a psychologist to know exactly what you are passing through. I feel really sorry for your despicable situation.

Thank you and may God help you as you think this through.

Between December and February, I have travelled to Imo state twice and to be honest, I'm disappointed.

Passing Tru Owerri, Orlu, Okigwe, and my place Mbaise and all I can say is that we have wasted 8 years.

The roads are substandard, not sure Julius Berger, Pw, Rcc or Hitec has constructed any road in Imo state.

My home town, Mbaise is Worse, no sign of government presence except the little road projects due to the influence of Mr John former FCT perm sec, and Jonny Opara former Pilgrim boss and little effort from Igbokwe at the Federal House.

I thought in 2011 Rochas was the savior, but with what he has done, I don't know who to believe anymore, I've lost faith in Imo politicians.

I hope Rochas gets to the Senate, so that if APC wins the Presidential polls, the South East can have a loud voice in the Senate. But I'm disappointed by his performance, Imo can do better.

I've been to Plateau, Abia and Enugu, and I want to say that, Imo is lagging behind. At least these states are her mates.

For all the pictures being posted here, everything in real life, with the eyes are just ordinary, nothing special. And if I may ask, what's the reason behind building iron bars as decoration on roads, I still don't get it.

Owerri colonized Imo state.

Owerri has the most educated population in Imo state, aided by Owerri hosting all seven tertiary education institutions in Imo state clustered around Owerri.

Any new governor who enters Douglas House automatically transforms to become Mayor of Owerri Capital Territory, expands Owerri toward the ends of Owerri zone.

Every new governor does eye catching development projects in Owerri,
Owerri people clap. Governor disappears the money meant for development of the other 23 or so LGAs.
