Where in Abuja are such salaries paid, except you are a top bank executive? I sure will like to know.

Oil firms with offices there, professional services firms etc. Though, it's rare but certainly rarer in Calabar.

@Post: OP, aba mo (where are you)? This is suspense oh. shocked

Which specific oil firms have offices in Abuja that pay N750,000 a month? Agip has an office here yes, but apart form them, which other ones?

You will hardly see them. Unlike in Lagos and PH.

Hello.

What's the name of the Airbnb and can you recommend it?

Abeg leave talk for Mathias... back to the koko.

I will be staying in an Airbnb in the meantime and today I had cause to bless the man that founded such a beautiful alternative to hotels.

My host is absolutely an angel. Everything is in place and more, including stocked fridge and kitchen, unlimited internet, and a Christmas gift and card wrapped just for me! Talk about living among sane people.

Often times it’s not easy when you first land especially if you are coming from a third world country. They generally don’t accept the experience so you might have to retrain a bit or take something at a much lower level.

OP might need to just get something to keep some money coming in. Business is generally slower during winter. My advice try not to go during winter. April would be a better period spring and slowly get into the swing of things.

When you land you are usually at your most vulnerable and there are vultures looking for prey so choose your 9ja friends wisely.

Wow some people in this thread are delusional. Although Canada is a decent country , you have to to go there with realistic expectations. If you think you are going to go there and make millions of dollars , you will be sadly mistaken.

First 3 years are very hard for a new immigrant, the money you bring with you is gone fast because you still even don't know where and how to get cheap deals. To make money for living is very hard because nobody gives you a decent job without Canadian experience, many new immigrants struggle trying to stretch their money, many realize it's better to rent together with other people after they spent on renting alone, many eat just plain rice because money is not enough. Those who have a family to support them or at least to give them the place to stay, are very lucky. I think OP now very busy running around and trying to get a decent living.

I don't think your plain rice story is true, at least I'm aware of the food banks there

Yes, food banks but not all can use them, there is no times to make lines for hours for to get the lunch, new immigrants are running against the clock to work or find work and to make ends meet, specially for rent and transportation, that's why it's very common to see immigrants living in groups and cooking one pot of rice. No time to go to wait for food, you need this time to work and you don't have a car, public transportation is taking your time and money too. But yes, Sundays go to church and get food, everyday is working for a jobless people who don't care to keep a job but have time to go and wait and spend time on welfare.

Yes Sir... actually, a bit more than N500k Naira monthly. You get to a point in your life where you find out that money is not a good motivator, particularly because you will always want more of it. So you don't make life-impacting decisions on the basis of money alone.

Besides, N500k monthly is not so much money. It is less than $2k CAD... a dishwasher on minimum wage makes more than that in Toronto.
This is the post I read and knew that he didn't have a clear mindset. How in the world can you compare the someone earning 500k in Nigeria to a dishwasher in Canada. Its called minimum wage because all that the dishwasher in Canada will make is to live basic minimum life. With 500k salary in Nigeria you are comfortable. You can save buy your car, build your house to your taste employ househelp, driver and security guard. Why do people keep comparing wages like this? The cost of living abroad is very high. The salary deductions and taxes are high, the bills come in monthly and you must never ever be behind in payments else there are consequences. Plus the system abroad is credit and more credit. To buy a house in Nigeria or a car you save and fork out cash.Once you are done its all yours. But to buy a house and car abroad everyone does a payment plan. The day you can't afford to pay, you face repossession. If Nigeria can just get better with the economy, security and otherwise, Nigeria is the best place to Live in.

I disagree to an extent

most who have left Nigeria are upper middle class / rich folks (I mean, you can't make it to Canada without being on this bracket) and have lived such "comfortable life" that you are saying

But for so so many of us to leave at the same time, it means something is fundamentally wrong with that failed state called Nigeria

What makes Nigeria seem "comfortable" to some is the same thing that makes Nigeria a failed state

1)the fact you can cut corners

2)the fact that the justice system is flawed

3) the fact that you can pay domestic staff a pittance and have people at your beck and call at an abysmal rate

4) The fact that The tax system is also flAwed etc etc.

But then like I always say, life is choice

One can desire to hr the big boy in the midst of poverty, and $hithole ness

or he can also decide to work as a menial job guy abroad

or one can even climb up and make it abroad too.

so it all depends on how you see life

How can you base your full argument on money, did you see where he said consider other factors. Because like he said it's not all about the money. Have you considered that someone with 500k in Nigeria may have an accident or get robbed and die on the roads because they're bad or because people passing by are too busy taking pictures instead of helping, or are too scared to do anything because the police will harass them, or no emergency services to call that can offer first aid help. Before you even start to consider the kind other factors, let me say this; Imagine you fall ill in a country where all the brilliant doctors are migrating daily to find better jobs, and you go to the hospital where those left behind will treat you for malaria, then few months down the road it is discovered they could have actually spotted and caught a terminal disease at an early stage and done something about it, I wonder how you'll feel when your house of representatives member is treating his headache abroad.

I'm not saying everyone should migrate, but let those who have chosen to do so have their peace. Everyone's choices cannot be the same, whether you stay or go let everyone face the consequences of their choices. Shikena

my dear someone earning 500k in naija is an average Nigerian, when you start earning that amount monthly you will know it's not really much, before you can save to buy car, build good house, you might need a loan.
remember you pay rent, feed the family, pay school fees, send money to family members, pay hospital bills etc from that monthly stipend.
I still prefer the life abroad.

N500k = 6m per annum.

what can that amount do for you if you want to live a pooper standard decent life.

how much rent will you pay in a decent place?

what of health expenses?

what ofannual vacation?

what of the cost of running your generator and repairing it?

Then you talk of fixing your car because of bad roads?

what of contingencies?

Except of course you want to live a mediocre life that Africans are accustomed to.....

I immigrated twice and to 2 different countries. I lived in a country very similar to Nigeria and in my personal opinion, you stay in Nigeria if you make a very good money, very high profit business, could be risky but making not 500K naira a month, making much more and saving for your future and your kids future at least a couple of millions of dollars before you get old, during this active time sending your kids studying abroad or immigrating, helping them to establish over there and becoming old or when the business is not working well, coming to another country where your kids are, moving to USA or Canada.

If you are poor or a middle class with 500K naira salary, it's really more secure and stable life abroad in places like Canada and USA, try to move and earn not only the salary but also a decent pension. How much is the Nigerian pension for an old person after working on 500K? What kind of opportunities are there for your kids to get a job paying the same 500K? Are the water, power and wifi always working and good quality? Do you feel safe walking or driving in your country? If you believe the life in Nigeria is good for you, for your future and your kids future, then stay. In your own country you know all the moves and how it works and if you feel it is your place to live your life, stay and work hard. But don't run abroad just because all do, there is no paradise in this world.

Ugo always likes to debate. N500T is not a small amount. If it's small, such a person should be poor but such people drive, live and eat well. In a country where minimum wage is N30T you can imagine what 500 means. Ugo, this good life you live has not yet cured your boredom grin

yes indeed

boredom is what brings me here sometimes to talk tongue tongue

but let's analyse this

N500k can get you a mediocre life at best undecided

500k per month in Nigeria is huge, it is unbelievable that people say such amount is average. 50k per month is like the normal average in Nigeria for someone with a university degree.

If you want to maintain a certain lifestyle, commensurate with your peers at the international stage, or just wanting to live a regular standard life

Anything short of 2m per month will not guarantee you that (as a married man with kids) or N1m plus as a single person

Renting a standard proper apartment (let's not even talk of building) in a gated community in a upscale area I'm say Lagos or Abuja will cost you how much

what of giving your kids proper education in standard school not the pathetic piece of garbage you call school in Nigeria

what of an annual vacations (this should br a given for a professional)

what of medical and dental check ups?

what of contingencies and entertainment?

You guys in Nigeria are just used to suffer head life

We are not maintaining any lifestyle commensurate with International anybody, we are in Nigeria

Nigeria is much bigger than Lagos and Abuja as INEC data shows

Those "pathetic piece of gabbage schools" in your words produced and are still producing excellent scholars.

Nigerians travel to their villages at least once a year on annual vacation
