The Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED) and National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) – have denied associations with Ohen Private Nursery and Primary School, the school within the collapsed building on Massey Street, Lagos Island.

National President AFED, the umbrella group of private schools that serve the low-income members of the society, Mr. Emmanuel Orji, told The Nation that the group had no records of the school’s membership.

“We have tried searching for information about the school.  I don’t think it is one of our members.“I have called people in that area to confirm.  But if anything comes up, would let you know,” he said

Parents should make it a point of duty to demand registration certificates from schools they intend to send their wards to inorder to avoid issues that touch.

The collapse of this building is so unfortunate. All these happened because of corruption

So what if the school was never registered, what does it have to do with the collapsed building? What exactly is the requirement for registering if not to pay a large fee every year? The owner was very smart, he chose to save his money instead. What i'm perplexed about is how all those guys in this picture have flat tummy and 6 packs, is it hunger or is it from their daily activities? I go to the gym 5 days a week, do push up, lift dumbell, do squats, do dead lift, do crunches and I still have no 6 pack. Maybe its not in my genes. Do you know that in 1994, Rashidi Yekini became the first player to score in the worldcup where Nigeria defeated Bulgaria 3-0?

Looking for who to shift the blame to! The govt agency that marked that building for demolition without following through should be held accountable!

We have thousands of unregistered private schools in Nigeria today.
They just get 3-5 teachers(SSCE holder) rent 3 rooms or other cheap alternatives and start having students.
The Ministry of Education in each state needs to do a lot work for our nation.

Registration is not the key thing. Government needs to stop accepting bribe to approve schools. They collect money and look the other way. Don't be surprised the school is registered in Education ministry. It's a sad situation. We need an overhaul in this country. Money speaks

Since they have been going there to collect bribe all this while, they never disclose it to the public that the school is not registered.

Fine! The school isn't registered, but that isn't the cause of the building collapse. There was no way the owner of the school would rent that place knowing it would collapse. Think about it!

Let's not leave an elephant and go after the ant.

The blame should go to the following:

1. LASBCA/ Lagos state government- for failing to do their job in terms of regulations. That sort of building shouldn't be erected in the first place. Someone must be sacked at LASBCA.
2. The Landlord of the property- for being ignorant with the affairs of his building and risking the lives of many people.
3. The Developer- developers are the major cause of building collapse in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. They economize materials wrongfully, fail to employ the services of qualified engineers and builders....

... and so what?
You wouldn't have approve the location, or the accident wouldn't have happened.

What stops you from detecting and sanctioning unregistered schools in the first place, don't tell me they grow overnight.

Nonsense
