so you don’t know that the building is a future source of hard currency income for the state government or you imagine it is going to be given out to those ioc for free

They must not whether they can afford it....all the oil companies including those servicing companies must take up office space and hire people to man them or they won’t know peace operation in the state ...they need the state o the other 2ay round

Gerrard59:

This is the most nonsensical project ever conceptualised in Akwa Ibom State (costing on average 9BN). More ridiculous than the uncompleted drainage by Akpabio. Regarding the so-called 21 storey structure, what the heck has a government got to do with constructing buildings? For what purpose exactly? What happens when he leaves office? It will abandoned like the Tropicana "Resort" by Akpabio?

Apart from ExxonMobil and Julius Berger(assuming they're interested), which other companies can afford to rent office spaces there? Honestly, considering his (Udom) background, I'm totally gutted by his activities.

Deenee was right after all.

What sort of "hard currency" is the government going to get from the building? How much has she gotten from Tropicana? 4-Points?

They must not whether they can afford it

So a company will accept to house her staff in a building even if she cannot afford it? Do you expect businesses to make losses?

....all the oil companies including those servicing companies must take up office space and hire people to man them or they won’t know peace operation in the state ...they need the state o the other 2ay round

BS!

Who are you to dictate to firms to cite offices there? Why should oil firms be compelled to do so? ExxonMobil already has offices in Eket and Uyo, why will she need this office? OK, let's assume Exxon rents some floors, what happens to others? Or do you know any firm that can AFFORD a floor other than oil related firms? My problem is that you believe so much in a Nigerian government controlled entity. Whereas NONE has worked! You mentioned peaceful operations whereas you forget that it is because of the relative peace in the state that made these firms stay put, if not, they would have relocated to Lagos or Abuja. If you think it is a lie, ask Warri what happened when the residents became belligerent.

BTW, you did not say anything about the nonsensical ecumencial centre.

I hope one day Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Kebbi will enjoy laudable projects of this nature rather than being used perpetually to score elections votes under the Kardashian umbrella.

This state enacted a law stimulating that investors must employ locals folks in the state, but they don't have enough skilled locals to fill available positions.

Most of the oil related technical jobs are staffed by folks from the SW and SE

Why not give their unemployed and restless youths credible skills instead of this obvious white elephant and money drain rubbish and ego projects?

With the level of insecurity, very unlikely, do you know how many people have been kidnapped in the space of 1 week in Rivers State? A man, his wife and new born baby were among the lot.

Stop spewing garbage, the state enacted employment law for a reason. Employers go overt their head to hire workers from outside the state so explain to us why employers shoulder extra cost to relocate new hires from other parts of Nigeria instead of hiring readily available local skills i Akwa Ibom.

Keep quiet if you have nothing better to talk about.

What stops employers from training those who are qualified from AKS than hiring from outside?

Any state that mearnt well for her citizens must enact such laws in order to check employers excesses, you can't tell me
that AKS don't have graduate from engineering or other technical areas which if sent to acquire additional skills won't be able to carry out a particular task in the company. Even Rivers state, an oil&Gas state has such laws long ago before AKS, IOCs, Services Coys do train & reserve some quota for Rivers indigenes.

So shut ur stinking mouth &wipe out that rubbish ignorantic post you put up there & stay off my mentions cos this is the last time I'll be responding to this ur thrash, I mean it.

Rufus, why are they passing employment laws to force investors to hire locals?

Why are investors hiring from outside the state instead of within the state?

Btw, it's not the job of investors to educate your population, get your priorities straight instead of wasting money on white elephant rubbish

State government building an office complex?

Lmao

Waste of resource. They should have used the money to make sure businesses are attracted to Akwa Ibom. Make Akwa Ibom more business friendly and let the private sector build the place up.

This is wasteful.
