Bricklayers, artisans and other workers on the site of a three-storey building that collapsed in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, have provided insights into the incidents leading to the tragedy.

The building, located in Sogoye, along Bode, Molete area of Ibadan, Oyo State, had collapsed suddenly on Friday while still under construction, with several people injured and others trapped underneath.

According to the constructions workers, tragedy struck when bricklayers and other artisans on site were rounding off for the day’s work.

One of the survivors, Toheeb Gbadamosi, 19, said: “Today is my first time of working at this place.

“I just came around in order to raise some money for my upkeep because things were difficult. I thank God that I came out of the rubble alive.”

Other lucky ones include 42-year-old Olalekan Dauda; Tunde, and Rilwan Oladepo.

Dauda said he was working with other artisans on the third floor when the building suddenly gave way.

“I just heard a sudden blast and later found that I and others in the building have been trapped in the rubble,” Dauda said.

According to one of the rescuers who gave his name as Aafa Mojeed Agbaje, two of his relatives — Tunde and Rilwan Oladepo — were also victims of the collapsed structure.

Agbaje said: “I am worried because other people that I know are presently in the wreckage.

“Tunde sustained injuries on his face and limbs. We have taken him to Molete Hospital and he is recuperating.”

Meanwhile, a crowd of sympathisers comprising traders and residents of the area have besieged the scene, while the road has blocked against traffic.

it may be recalled that, on Wednesday in Ita-Faji area of Lagos State, a similar incident had occurred, claiming lives of at least 20 persons, some of whom were pupils of Ohen Nursery and Primary School, which was located on one of the floors of the compromised structure.

You'd see some Anambra omata that hardly brush their mouth coming out to say that Arthur Eze made Emeka Ihedioha win, some illiterates even went as far as saying Arthur Eze is richer than Ebonyi state and I wonder why Anambra roads are still in deplorable conditions when they have such a man with more "money than a state" and who likes sponsoring all state Governors in Igboland, possibly he can do what all states can do and even more.

One other fool said Okorocha was sponsored by Emeka offor and I ask did he also sponsor Okorocha when he contested Presidential primaries twice under the PDP and came second behind Obasanjo? What they don't know is that Rochas is richer than any Anambra man dead or alive before he even came to Imo state to contest the Governorship seat and he won because Imo people thought a rich philanthropist would not bother looting the state treasury and while the man in power then was hated because of his arrogance and his slap on priest.

The best way to ague with an Illiterate person from Anambra is to ignore him to masturbate over his foolery.

Some fools say Arthur Eze is the riches Igbo man and I ask what is his Forbes networth, is it officially up to 1billion dollars, only Apple colabo with Chinedu Echeruo made him 1billion dollar richer yet he is hiding himself, but these same Anambra touts will make little money and they will flaunt it like people who just came out from the most interior villages.
funny though... Anambra and Enugu have the best road in the eastern geographical region...
please, release such hatred from u nd also get facts before u write... it's quite embarrassing writing out of ignorance...
also try nd create a thread and state your facts clearly nd not do that under another.... stop calling people ill names cause t only show your level of sanity and mentality....
if u have issues with Anambra pls go down to the river Niger and do the needful.... stop showcasing your level of stupidity cos no matter how hard you try, Anambra and Enugu state is far better than any other eastern State in all ramification...
if u people are richer than them, start by developing your STATE and its people...

So what is your pain with Anambra people, you sound so bitter, God forbid me meeting a bitter human being like you in real life, you said the best way to argue with an illiterate person from Anambra is to ignore them, so why talk about it, you are the worst illiterate since you couldnt ignore, you are just full of hate, if you dont agree with someone's assertion, just ignore and pass, but trying to make a point you ended up showing how envious, hateful and bitter you are, the truth is that Anambra people are rich and there is nothing you can do about and i came from one of those rich families in Anambra so go and die.

See how unintelligent u are. Are the bricklayers equally the structural engineer. Let me educate u, blocks are not the main load bearing members in storey buildings, they are mainly partition walls and bear little load. They aren’t put into much consideration in structural design, rather we consider footings (foundation), columns (pillar), beams, slabs, concrete facial (parapet). So, stop embarrassing yourself. Don’t allow hate destroy you.
Thanks

The zoo government always for tragedy to strikes before they will start running around doing nothing, the last thing to do is to release press statement to sweep everything under evil carpets till the next disaster.
The same government ministry failed to do it jobs will still make money for doing nothing.
Nigeria government is the most lazy government in the world.

Yoruba, the builders of fake structures. Fake Nigeria. Fake government and Fake Nigerians.

Must residential apartments be more than a storey building ? I'd tell most of my friends that need apartment around Eti-osa and Ibeju-Lekki axis to always avoid any building that is more than one storey cos of the nature of the soil there. Many of these landlords want to recover their capital on time.
