Good one NLC. Is the government trying to say the only way it can increase wages is at the expense of the people?
You said it. If the government increases employment, then they will get more revenue from workers. Create Employment first is the way on

Countries tax high because its actually used to maintain standard of living n improve productivity and the people actually see the benefit, things like standard electricity ,roads, Security.but in Nigeria u pay tax then pay for all these things again. U run gen, pay vigilante,..And imagine the increase tax is for salaries not productivity reason

U think we are more wasteful than ghana or south Africa ? Or even us or india ? Democrazy is not efficient anywhere in the world

U have to have enough money to do well with democrazy our government is even trying
Read and understand her post before defending nonsense, do you know how much a senator takes home? Even the budget for NASS?

Where else do u want government to make money from

5% wage is small no serious country does that not even ghana here , its 15% in ghana...it should be 10% minimum in Nigeria

No country develops without taxing 30% of its gdp

For we its just 7% and u want development
He should stop barbing his hair with 100s of million and eating a billion naira food

Cut the cost of governance

Labour should go and sit down.

From 5% to 7.5% is actually a small price to pay.

Labour should be more concerned about boosting productivity and getting more people in the workforce.

Not making politics out of economic strategies.

But the country in question has an extremely wasteful government filled with lootocrats. Why can't they reduce cost of governance, scrap money wasters like security vote, excessive allowance to senators and lawmakers, reduce their salaries too. They never want to make any sacrifices, all the know is to look for more ways to milk the public dry.
sir, don't waste your time quoting that freak who calls himself,Mrvitalis. I suspect he could be one of those ballot box carriers

NLC wants to have its own cake and eat it.

How did they expect their increment to be funded, from pixie dust?

Obviously something has to give, because it's not like Nigeria has excess of cash sitting waiting.

The minimum wage is unjustified in my opinion given that majority of the workers the NLC represents are completely unproductive anyway.

How dumb does one have to be not to see that the way to go is by increasing taxpayer numbers not tax rates?

You do have a point. But the government needs to be innovative in finding solutions to these issues . They should expect this much if they want to tie the solution to wage increase to increase in VAT. The timing of policies matter a lot in getting buy-in too. We’re experiencing double digits inflation rate and this is coming. How about consciously reducing the cost of governance for instance. There is very little effort at diversifying the economy. The government needs to think on its feet.

bro u are very correct, but that is in a country that know how to utilize tax, and a sane country. Not here in nigeria that our leaders using our tax to enrich themselves. Hope u see the differences.

[quote author=mrvitalis post=76937070]No country can ever develop without taxing up to 30% of its gdp in a year ...we do 7%

There is no way 7 trillion (if e reach self ) can improve the lifes of 180 million people ...where wage n debt eat 90%

We need at least 35 trillion a year to see meaningful development

[Its obvious u dn't know ur country..cux if u do, u will know that 50 will still be stolen and mismanaged
