LSU ain't bad at all. A friend is pursuing his MS in Petroleum Eng there, and also got a RA. He's actually doing very fine there. As others have advised, consider what you'd be working on, whom you'd be working with, and not just the stipends. Cheers!

Hello friends,

I have received my I-20 form and paid my SEVIS fee. I'm about to complete the DS-160 form and schedule visa appointment but my passport expires June 2019. Can I use my passport for the process despite the near expiration date? It is stated in the DS-160 website that in most cases, the passport should have an expiry date of 6 months after the visa appointment date.

I was at immigration office in Ilorin today to renew my passport but I was told to return in 2 weeks time. I was told the booklets have been exhausted and it would take 2 weeks or less to get new stock. I was also told people from nearby states like Oyo had to come down to Ilorin as there is shortage of the booklets nationwide.

I want to quickly schedule my visa appointment. Should I be patient or go ahead with the old passport which I will renew afterward? Thank you all. I eagerly await your responses.

Congrats on your admissions. Both offers are good. I would advise you to look at the following pointers when making your decision. First, your advisor is very important, you will understand when you get here. Second, don't be deceived by the funding, look at respective schools' deductions. I would have put location as one of the pointers, but both universities are in the same state and they are only one hour drive from each other although New Orleans (Tulane) is a better city compare to Baton Rouge (LSU). The quality of life in both cities is almost the same. It's up to you to make your decision.

Finally, I am done with the admission/funding hustle. Got a fully funded PhD Chemistry offer from University of Kentucky and Michigan Tech University with good stipends. I am thinking of taking University of Kentucky offer over Michigan Technological University offer. What do you guys think?

Will you be making same research in both schools? How would you rate your advisors at both schools? Personally, I'd go for Kentucky.

I prefer the research areas in UKY than MTU and UKY covers the whole health insurance while MTU doesn't. The stipend from UKY is far higher than MTU stipend coupled with the fact that Michigan is a very cold state. I will choose UKY.

Be with y’all soon. Fixing issues to make reg seamless and super fast as usual. I’ll send a quick update shortly.

Fall 19 get that visa and those that aren’t funded yet don’t give up. Search and do the last push or try fall.

Fall 20, the time is now. Finish the Nova’s, Magoosh, Manhattan’s, princeton, Barron and most importantly all the test makers materials official guide, practice work book ( verbal and quant ), Ets gre big book and the six ets practice tests which include the two new powerprep s.

Don’t get overwhelmed by the process, it’s a step at a time. From zero to hero
