Nigerians don't have that mental capacity to innovate, neither do we have the culture of maintenance, all we do is create and abondon it to keep running itself while we hope to milk billions from it.

This is why all our roads, schools, industries, agencies, houses, estates, railway lines, transport systems, and everything is in shambles.

Seun ought to have reached out to interested partners to pump in money to get first class coders, programmers and brand marketers to revolutionize Nairaland and transform it beyond what it is.

I have a lot of ideas to help transform Nairaland and position it to bring in more money for Seun and partners, but I know, Nigerians don't regard any other person except the founder of any idea undecided
Am owing you a bottle of beer, anywhere I see you I will give it to you, very chilled one.

Inspiring story, and I pray the good Lord makes a way for you irrespective. Going forward however, we must arm our Children with skills that they can fall back on when the white collar jobs are not forthcoming.

Sites such as Facebook, Twitter and so son on received hundreds of millions of dollars in investment and for many years made massive losses until they started making profits.

If Seun was overseas and I'm sure the site would be more advanced than this

But again, let's be honest, must changes be made for the sake of changes? Craigslist is basically still the Craigslist of years ago. WhatsApp has barely changed too. At times, change is unnecessary. Majority of those on Nairaland are happy just the way it is. Had you not complained, I wouldn't have noticed.

If it ain't broken, don't fix

People are enticed to buy the newest Iphone model with only marginal changes.

You have a good point.

But this idea of it "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is detriment to progress. And we love using it a lot.

WhatsApp and others maintain the same template but are always introducing new updates & new function one at a time. It did not have call, video call, daily status and so on when it started.

For example, Click on a NL ad and it will take you away from NL. Those little details count.

Keep being disgusted. That's how Chivita killed Five Alive.
Thats how Limca killed Fanta Lemon.

They would only deny and turn around to acuuire but BIGI is taking a heavy chunk off Nigeria Bottling Company's market prospects.

That's the mentality that kills businesses.

Lack of innovation.

According to the video, the woman just went on a year course in catering and hotel management in the UK in the 70s. It's not as if she was living there for a long time. And why she ventured into carrying tomatoes in mile 12 market is simply because she was owing debt of 500k which she used in training her last born through uni and sorting personal stuffs. she needed to pay back the loan cus she's tired of failed promise from friends and family members. that's why she's doing what she's doing

if ain’t broken bla bla kills innovation. Ford said if he had asked his customers what they wanted , they would have said a faster horse meaning healthier horse and not a car. Foresight is important. What’s app has changed, Craigslist has changed. Please they have. For instance, Nairaland can be an OAUTH provider for Nigeria applications just like google, Facebook and LinkedIn are for many applications. So when I want to sign up for an application for instance, I just log in through Nairaland. It’s all a way of making money, growth, innovation, more money. The if it’s not. Token is peculiar to manufacturing and this is changing. The world is changing fast.

With the traffic and activities going on here, corporate bodies should be queueing up here and not Linda ikeji & co. The potential is enormous. But no marketing & packaging, companies will be wary of putting huge marketing money on a site that looks so archaic.

This is best derailed thread I have seen in a while here (no better emoji )

That's why you still have YIM on your profile?
That's why Nairaland doesn't a dedicated CS email not to talk of phone number?
That's why all that has changed in the last decade is removal of 0 pagination?

If you've ever run a profitable business you won't be typing this.

Haba....I am for progress, but a lot has changed on Nairaland in a decade.

1. When I joined Nairaland a decade ago, there was no Like/Share button

2. There were no Mentions. If someone quotes you, you will never know, unless you return to the topic.

The idea of supermods also happened in the last decade, although it may not be a positive upgrade.

While I agree that Nairaland has declined, it has more to do with content than the site its self. And the content is dictated by those who post and comment here.

Thanks for this.

Then why don't you contact Seun and inform him about this? There's no point placing a billboard in a place where there's zero traffic.

Knowing what changes can be made and keeping quiet will lead Nairaland nowhere.

It's time thread was created for that purpose

I can't even remember the last time I saw Bigi in my area.

Bigi is not Cocacola, just like Minmmie Noodles can never be indomie, and Bournvita cannot be Milo, nor Three Crowns, Peak.

Maybe you can compare Bigi and Gala instead.

nairaland is meant to be a discussion forum that doesn't host anything except a 13mb(at maximum) picture and it's serving its purpose.
Still doesn't mean there shouldn't be room for improvement!

If you identify with other forums you'll probably get my perspective.

You are right actually. Nairaland is a free web forum called SMF-simple machine forum. It's an open source web forum meaning that u can download the website, fine-tune it to ur taste but the main job has been done already. There are plugins which u have to download and install to suit what u want. So, u are actually right. One thing about life is, if u are first to discover a thing, try to utilize it to ur own advantage before anyone does.

Nairaland switched from SMF a long time ago (more than 8yrs) and is using a custom python framework.

Plz sow a seed of Employment in my life too. I need a job sir. I can send you my cv on request.

Let me tell you how these things work.

GOD rarely helps people who wait for jobs or opportunities but if you are diligently doing something no matter how little or if you have an idea you are already working on to bring to fruition then you can bet that someone from somewhere might just assist you.

Jobs are hard to come by but not impossible to find but the best thing is to search for jobs but dont put your life on hold until you get a job...Just find something doing no matter how small or lowly.

I doff my heart for Seun as he was quite young when he started and the site now has over 2m members.
I am sure you have another alternate moniker. So don't deceive yourself. Nairaland has about 1 million members. This is not an achievement when you realise that over 36% of Nigerians have access to the internet.

Every word you wrote is the truth. I've been using nairaland for (I had to check my profile) for close to 11 years. Most things here, even opinions seem obsolete. It always trolling, tribalism and tonnes of irrelevant comments.

One thing NL still have going for her is diverse, local, real-life information on ranges of topics. The front page is no different from any blog out there.
Gone are those day I got stucked on NL on my ExpressMusic phone getting educated and entertained in almost equal proportion.

Of course, Sheun deserves credit for the idea & persistency back when some of us are wasting time on surveys & hyip. But I think he is not milking this cashcow enough by leaving it the same through the years.

This is my 13th year here and I can easily conclude that nairaland is regressing, except of course for the numbers.
Seun needs to let more creative people on his team.

No other moniker. The number of members is up there to see.

You're right about numbers. It could be higher. But many who I've introduced to the site ever come back. People have their preferences.

Some love Facebook, others Twitter, others Lindaikeji and so one.

I love Nairaland, Facebook, and YouTube
