But again, let's be honest, must changes be made for the sake of changes? Craigslist is basically still the Craigslist of years ago. WhatsApp has barely changed too. At times, change is unnecessary. Majority of those on Nairaland are happy just the way it is. Had you not complained, I wouldn't have noticed.

But this idea of it "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is detriment to progress. And we love using it a lot.

WhatsApp and others maintain the same template but are always introducing new updates & new function one at a time. It did not have call, video call, daily status and so on when it started.

For example, Click on a NL ad and it will take you away from NL. Those little details count.

What’s app has changed, Craigslist has changed. Please they have. For instance, Nairaland can be an OAUTH provider for Nigeria applications just like google, Facebook and LinkedIn are for many applications. So when I want to sign up for an application for instance, I just log in through Nairaland. It’s all a way of making money, growth, innovation, more money. The if it’s not. Token is peculiar to manufacturing and this is changing. The world is changing fast.

why not build your own platform.

With the traffic and activities going on here, corporate bodies should be queueing up here and not Linda ikeji & co. The potential is enormous. But no marketing & packaging, companies will be wary of putting huge marketing money on a site that looks so archaic.

Haba....I am for progress, but a lot has changed on Nairaland in a decade.

1. When I joined Nairaland a decade ago, there was no Like/Share button

2. There were no Mentions. If someone quotes you, you will never know, unless you return to the topic.

The idea of supermods also happened in the last decade, although it may not be a positive upgrade.

While I agree that Nairaland has declined, it has more to do with content than the site its self. And the content is dictated by those who post and comment here.

Bigi is not Cocacola, just like Minmmie Noodles can never be indomie, and Bournvita cannot be Milo, nor Three Crowns, Peak.

You are right actually. Nairaland is a free web forum called SMF-simple machine forum. It's an open source web forum meaning that u can download the website, fine-tune it to ur taste but the main job has been done already. There are plugins which u have to download and install to suit what u want. So, u are actually right. One thing about life is, if u are first to discover a thing, try to utilize it to ur own advantage before anyone does.

Nairaland switched from SMF a long time ago (more than 8yrs) and is using a custom python framework.

Let me tell you how these things work.

GOD rarely helps people who wait for jobs or opportunities but if you are diligently doing something no matter how little or if you have an idea you are already working on to bring to fruition then you can bet that someone from somewhere might just assist you.

Jobs are hard to come by but not impossible to find but the best thing is to search for jobs but dont put your life on hold until you get a job...Just find something doing no matter how small or lowly.

Every word you wrote is the truth. I've been using nairaland for (I had to check my profile) for close to 11 years. Most things here, even opinions seem obsolete. It always trolling, tribalism and tonnes of irrelevant comments.

One thing NL still have going for her is diverse, local, real-life information on ranges of topics. The front page is no different from any blog out there.
Gone are those day I got stucked on NL on my ExpressMusic phone getting educated and entertained in almost equal proportion.

Of course, Sheun deserves credit for the idea & persistency back when some of us are wasting time on surveys & hyip. But I think he is not milking this cashcow enough by leaving it the same through the years.

This is my 13th year here and I can easily conclude that nairaland is regressing, except of course for the numbers.
Seun needs to let more creative people on his team.

You're right about numbers. It could be higher. But many who I've introduced to the site ever come back. People have their preferences.
