Okoyeebows:
Two temporary things should be done to reduce the traffic.

The roundabout at the Lekki area of the bridge should be erased and replaced with traffic lights.

Secondly, the toll booth should be uprooted and moved further down towards Ikoyi. That way, the backlog of traffic from Lekki would be on that bridge. The problem with this solution is that the traffic is now transferred to Ikoyi in the mornings.

But the best thing is to remove the toll gate for free entry and exit.

This will simply transfer the traffic jam to Ikoyi and it will be worse at that end as it seems the flow of traffic there is greatee

Failed APC government embarassed cry

AutoJoshNG, my two pence; that bridge should be declared an exit point with Toll, VI toll gate should made an entry point for residents of Lekki/Epe axis.

You have a point, but the narrowness of the adimiralty road and the exit to Osborne road cannot contain the expected traffic and also you'll have to consider people that are going to VI from Lekki/Ajah.

The reason for the backlog of traffic is that cash is involved in the transaction, many motorist prefer paying in cash. The management should encourage the use of eTag by giving rebates and discount.

I agree with you and I'm suspecting they already know this. They don't want the traffic to land on the Ikoyi side and they decided to put it towards Lekki let them suffer.

My solution, 'stay away from Lekki!'

There are several vehicles that I’m interested in looking at but sadly they are all in that axis. I refuse to participate in traffic folly angry

If only the Government will do this. Increase the toll fare on that bridge, if possible double it. This will reduce the number of vehicles that ply on that bridge. Right now its taking more than what was planned and projected. Once the toll is increased, only the vehicles that must go through as a matter of necessity it will do so. Besides, it will also help restore some sanity on both the ikoyi side and the Lekki side of the bridge which ought to be high class residential areas but are gradually turning into noisy zones.
I repeat, no other solution can work unless the tolls are drastically increased to keep atleast half of the vehicles away.

Even if its 1000 naira per passage, the traffic would still be there

They don't want the spillover of traffic to enter Ikoyi. Ikoyi na exclusive neighbourhood.

There is usually traffic on the Ikoyi side in the evenings.

Reduce the diameter of the roundabout to one third of present length. Install traffic light.

Here is my submission. I hope someone can show this to powers that be and also FRSC:

We need to work on our traffic rules and regulations, remodel our roads and traffic light signs and road signs.

We can work with timing of the day as we know some times are high traffic times than others.

Using the Lekki Epe road as a case study with area of concentration from the "Sand filled" Toll gate to Ajah jubilee bridge.

From 6am to say 10am vehicular traffic is more from Ajah towards the Sand filled Toll gate. And scanty vehicular movement from Sand filled Toll gate towards Ajah. At this time of the day the side with less vehicular movement can be given one lane on while the free two lanes can be added to the 3 other lanes of the other side(I am assuming that stretch is a 3laned road on either side) this action will ease the traffic by almost 75%.

After these rush hours the roads are returned back to normal and these will be clearly communicated by road signs and traffic lights.

During closing hours say 5pm to 8pm the process is carried out again but this time on the reverse lanes.

This can be achieved on other roads in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. All we need is a little modification. As we grow in population we need to evolve from old strategies to new ones that can accommodate the new trend.

This is my submission, someone should share it with people of influencee

This is already being done. However, in the evenings, you have an equal amount of traffic leaving Lekki as you have entering Lekki. Most times, they cant reduce or increase the lanes. The traffic on the Ikoyi side is also very bad.

That nonsense bridge with the useless endless traffic. I thank God I stopped working in Lekki. The daily traffic situation was gradually reducing my lifespan

The lasting solution for that place is 4th mainland bridge. Most vehicles coming or going out of Ajah, lekki, victoria island or Ikoyi will come to the Admiralty way then make use of 3rd mainland bridge. The availability of 4th mainland bridge will reduce the traffic that converge at the toll plaza and also relieve 3rd mainland bridge of its daily burden of vehicular traffic

Not with the full razzmatazz. What they do is to divert traffic to the booth and put those traffic cones to demarcate. It's especially during weekends or mornings.

Has it not been paid for already?

All these while....think if how much they have raked

Besides....what is our tax for? Yet the citizens are taxed twice
Re: Admiralty-lekki-ikoyi Bridge: What Is The Solution To Regular Traffic There? by cooldood(m): 7:23pm On May 15, 2019
In Dubai, there are several toll points, but they are all virtual toll, and so you don’t even get to know there are tolls around. There are cameras installed at each toll with vehicles also camera-fitted, as you pass through, you’re charged automatically and traffic is reduced drastically. For regular users of that Ikoyi link bridge or residents of Lekki, this is the way to go, and then create only a single lane for exceptions and then enforce it strictly. Without enforcement, this will fail here. Same to be applied to all other toll points across the state.

Such schemes are signed for a fixed number of years normally long term.. A contract is a contract. If you sign a contract for 20years and they make their money back in a split second, you must still adhere to th contract.

The contract signed was for 3 toll gates but only 1 is in operation as Lagosians protested. This is a breach of contract

What has been the time effect? When Jonathan wanted to sell off PHCN, they did roadshows all over the world looking for foreign power companies to purchase the component parts.. Foreign investors refused to buy stating that Nigeria does not respect contracts.

At the end of the day, only Nigerian companies bought. And worse, the FG is not honouring their own part of the agreement.

d bridge was fully paid for with taxes.
d LASG was sued by a lawyer- onagoruwa I think- and ordered to stop tolls.
they refused.
d solution is to place d Lekki exit toll at d ikoy end, using d length of d bridge for traffic-
just as d ikoyi exit is at d Lekki end.
why they did it d way it is, is beyond me.

"Fully paid" for in taxes?

Anyone who says that isn't facing reality. If it was simply funded with tax payers money, Fashola won't build a bridge so grand. Fashola built other bridges but that bridge was the grandest.

He expected whatever money spent on the bridge be recouped and if possible with profit. That's how it was budgeted for. Simply saying it's from our taxes doesn't make the cut.

It's like you buying a Toyota Camry with your salary to use for Uber. The plan was for it to earn extra income to cater for some expenses.

Now, someone said that you should enjoy the car and forget about using it for uber. If you take that advise.will it have an adverse effect on your finances or not?

Nigerians expect free lunches. Most of Chinas road network were tolled to recoup cost and even generate income for the government.

A good part of the impressive road network crisscrossing China were built and tolled.

Removing that fragging tollgate is the solution to ending the traffic on the ikoyi-lekki link bridge. When they demolish the tollgate and stop collecting money, the bridge will have free flow of vehicles. No other practical solution.

sir,
whether ur analogy is correct is irrelevant.
feel free to argue with d judge.
Google is ur friend.
incidentally, how much was used to build d bridge?
how much has been made?
who pays businesses for d real loss in revenue lost to traffic jams?
which parts of Lekki have benefited from d toll revenue?
lastly, to ur analogy-
go buy a house.
then start charging ur children house rent.
Tnx.

It’s a no brainer. The width of the round-about is the main cause of traffic there, and that bill-board will make it daunting to deal with . Not my business tho’ ; the residents of phase 1 are not complaining.
the ikoyi end is also a problem during peak periods.
