Spirits responsible for theft — Market guards

YENAGOA—HUNDREDS of Igbo market traders at the Swali Ultra-Modern Market in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, yesterday, shut their businesses in protest of burglary of their shops by hoodlums.

The traders, who also protested the detention of their leaders by security operatives, threatened to shut down their businesses until their leaders are released or charged to court.

Addressing newsmen at the Swali Ultra-Modern Market yesterday, Secretary of Igbo Traders Union, Jude Osigwe, lamented that most of the traders have lost millions of Naira in cash and goods to hoodlums in the past months. Osigwe said: “In the past eight months, some armed hoodlums have been coming to our shops to extort us and when we reported the matter to the Police, they told us that there is nothing they can do. “When we reported to the market management, they promised to look into the matter. “Only recently, when we came to open our shops in the morning, we observed that our shops have been burgled and cash and goods carted away. “The security men we pay monthly to secure our shops told us it is spirits that are responsible for the theft and in the past three months, over 70 shops have been burgled and goods and cash carted away.
“As Igbo and the majority traders in the market, we are the most affected. Our traders association leaders have been arrested over some allegations and if our leaders are arrested, all of us are arrested and we cannot be trading when our leaders are in detention.”

Ohaneze Ndigbo reacts

Reacting, President of the South-South Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Arthur Chinedu, while demanding the immediate release of the leaders of Igbo traders in Bayelsa State, said the state will experience a total shut down of businesses by Igbo traders. He said: “We are begging for the release of Igbo traders’ leaders in Bayelsa State. The people arrested are the eyes of Igbo people in the business sector and without doing that, Bayelsa State will experience a total shut down of market and businesses in the entire state.”

The spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswatt, could not be reached for comments.

Fighting , chest beating and insulting everyone wouldn't get you referendum or make you appear stronger than who you really are

Today yorubas are evil, tomorrow middlebelt are slaves, day after that fulani.are terrorist. All this tantrums isn't needed in a civilised society.

Daily headlines like, iyaloja issues at computer village, South africans intolerance to our hustlers or locals locking up spare part traders shop in ghana..... needs to stop

A lot of people find depression solace in Nairaland tribalism, there is a life outside here filled with happy people making a living. Go out there, breath fresh air

You are gradually descending into the pit of myopism and empty glory. I fear for you.

You are not better than anyone. All I see is jealousy and body pains.

It's funny the tribal sentiments we see daily on this forum.
First look at how the OP put the headline, "IGBO AND THEIR IJAW LANDLORD", while the content simply showed people being robbed of their goods in their respective shops, even after lodging complaints to relevant authotities, are being left hapless.

Some of these guys borrowed money from other sources, others sold their ancestral land and properties to establish those businesses only for them to watch hoodlums steal away their sweat and efforts.

It is also most disheartening the comments made in this thread, tribalism and sentiments seems to have erased our true senses of reasoning and every iota of humanity in us in this country.
Someone up their said they should stop throwing tantrums, I wonder how wicked a heart can be, people are complaining that they are being robbed of their sweat and somebody calls it "throwing tantrums".

It's well with us in this country.

To cause war between Ijaws & Igbos who are the greatest threat to Fulanization of Nigeria according to OBJ

Unfortunately for Afonjas, Ijaws no get problem with Igbos.

Even Asari Dokunbo calls himself a Biafran who identifies himself with Uwazuruike group.

Did you read the post? What have they done wrong? Their shops have been burgled, they have been extorted. They have reported to the police and the market union.

Are you human at all? What kind of wickedness and foolishness are dwelling in your soul?

The souls of certain individuals are infested and putrid with the most vile form of tribalism. Such people are suffering some form of mental illnesses and personality disorders.

Liking and sharing your comment with alternate profiles is another form of depression and seeking gratification.. people have done that countlessly on this forum and eventually embraced a happy life devoid of hate, it easier and less stressful.

Your comment still makes no sense as the dispute is about looters which the security agents said its witchcraft and can do nothing about it.. reason properly.

You comment is as a result of the inner you, twisting and deviating on the issue at hand and capitalizing on what gets you into your comfort zone.. "hate".

There is a voice inside you being overshadowed by this relevance you feel you are acquiring here, there is no relevance here.. you are anonymous. The only person being grown in here is that which you give.. am afraid it's not love.
