Good day nairalanders, is 70k to 80k expenses too much for a family of three.my younger brother told me that my expenses of 80k is too much for me,my wife an my kid daughter monthly.This expenses include feeding,buying of fuel for generator,recharge cards,transport,drugs an other miscellaneous. I have argued with him that the money is not too much.I no some family of three spend more twice of that monthly. when I was using my car I spend 100k to 120k monthly but now I have parked my car because of bad road.my expenses is now 70k to 80k.Nairalanders I want to know if it okay or does anyone with a family of three spend less than that.if yes what are the secret.

It is "your" family.

If you can even afford 200k in a month, it is not too much for "your" family as long as you can afford it.

There are families who spend 80k per weekend. Don't allow a third party cause a riff between you and your wife.

I know a family that spend close to 150-200k every month

I guess we all have different measurements but I would say that figure is quite small.

80k monthly is 2,670 a day for 30 days.

Divide by 2.5 individuals that is a little above 1k each adult and maybe 450 for the child.


Although this works out to a little under 19k a week for all 3 (2.5 if you like) of you, it requires bulk purchases, prudence and sacrifice.

Little or nothing is left for entertainment which is a necessity for the quality of life.

It differs from individual to individual, yet I'll say it's quite small for a family of 3.

No one can tell whether it is too much or not without evaluating your expenses relative to your earnings. If more than 80% of your income goes to fixed and variable expense, then start making preparations to go back to the village.

Ideally, I believe 60-70% can cover variable (groceries, etc.) and fixed monthly expenses (e.g. rent), while the rest 30-40% savings. Radical savers can increase savings by 20% monthly.

Thanks to all those that have contributed to my post.I have told my younger brother that my expenses is for okay but he keep telling me to try an reduced my expenses.I told him no way I can reduce it.that expense runs my households very well.instead of it to reduce it will increase as more stuffs can still come ur way.@ acidosis savings is not a problem. I always make sure I save at least 100k every month from my salary.I still have 7 bikes an two cars on the way for higher purchased including a computer business because I no as I began to have more kids my expenses will increase.

Pls you should know what to tell people and what to keep to yourself as a family man.
If you're unable to meet your brother's or extended family extravagant financial request tomorrow, they will table your matter as regards to how much you spend as expense.

My thoughts exactly, Op your brother have no business with how you run your home, 80k is even very cheap, some families spend that on just feeding. If you can reduce it without any effect, fine if not as long as you're saving I believe you're good to go. Please keep your home affairs from your family.
