Since the world of automobiles does not revolve around Toyota and other Japanese brands only, I will like to seek the opinions of those who are more informed about about other existing brands.

The criteria for your recommendation should only be based on utility, reliability, or cost of ownership since the the maintenance and availability of parts is not an issue.

In my mind the Escape and Equinox comes first when I consider running cost, and a GC Laredo 4x4 will do better considering all the criterion listed.

Please feel free to add more models with reference to any of the listed criteria.

Ford Explorer 06-date becoming common sight on roads (Expedition too big, bland and too expensive to run).
Ford Edge, Escape, EcoSport, Everest.
Their Lincoln variants
Hyundai Santa Fe, ix35,
Kia Sportage, Sorento.
Volvo XC90, xc70 (more like a tall wagon)

As for me I'll go for IVM80.
That body on frame has an Asian engine (Japan), the European look (Germany), and a Nigerian touch to it.
So you can trust the reliable engine to last long, the off-road prowess from it's European cousin to take you to places like Lambe or some remote region, and the khaki never say die spirit from its Nigerian touch.
IVM all the way.

My two main choice was the Grand Cherokee, and the XC90 with the inline 5 cylinders for ease of maintenance.
The fuel economy of the Jeep and abundant cheap part made it a winner which is why the 2012 Escape came in for the on road cost of ownership.

The Equinox is main for city driving with good fuel economy, Escape is for city and small off road good fuel economy, and the Jeep is for city and off road with bad economy

I like the Jeep Grand Cherokee but it is expensive.
Re: Which Other SUV Will Be Good For Nigerian Roads by sultaan(m): 5:15pm On Jun 11, 2019
Compared to a 4runner or Highlander it is cheap used,.

One other reason for my choice is that the vehicle should be a 100 000 unit sold a year very popular in the market and lots of parts

Can you please give any logical reason to make that decision?

And it should be based on the criteria I listed in the first post

Logical?

What are the criteria, utility, reliability, and cost of ownership.

So logically, which other car stated so far on this thread is cheaper to own and maintain than the XC90.

Which of them ages better than the XC90. You don't see a lot of XC90 owners opening threads on NL to complain about issues too.

Come to utility, also tell me what any other car listed here can do in which the XC90 can't.

Go round and ask even the most religious of Japanese car dealers, XC90 is beginning to take a reasonable quota in the sales market, almost every dealer has one in their stand now. That tells u something, majority of Nigerians now requesting for the cars ain't blind.

Years back, you won't open this thread and see anyone other than me suggest XC90, pure fact!!

utility:

XC90 is a Volvo. That in itself, is a testament. #FACT.

The only thing you could ever hear people complain about Volvo is the looks. Or have you ever heard anything else anecdotal the way you hear things about Honda or Nissan?

It does everything you can expect from a SUV and even more.

The 7 seater trims got you covered for moving a family or large group of friends.

The extremely generous cargo space doesn't have a rival in SUVs . You'd need a pickup wagon to do better......

The ride height and solid suspension makes it adept at both on-road and offroad

reliability,

How many rundown XC90 have you set your eyes on?

That vehicle takes a hell of a beating without showing it. Just look at how clean the 2003 models which are the first year of XC90 still are on the streets?

Or is it the bulletproof engine? Visit Copart and you'll see XC90's with over 200,000 Miles on the Odometer and they are working flawless.

I'd know, cos I have one with 240,000 Miles on it, single engine, single owner before me, never been opened.
The maintenance history from the 1st owner is available, not a single major repair or fault. minor ones sef very few

Matter of fact the day I needed to do some work on my shocks I found out that it had never been taken out before, ever.

Seeing a XC90 broken down by the roadside is a rarity. For real, look around.

Cost of ownership

Lol. Just lol.

We no dey hype our brand like say na poor man motor, because that's a major disservice to it.

I don't want to say anything on this beyond that it is easier on the pocket than a Corolla......

Start from the price of an 2008 XC90 and 2008 of those moving St Louis sugar cartons that you listed above.

Hint:
There's a reason why many of your kazeems don't view it as being profitable for them to support. They won't see you more than once a year in their workshop.

Thanks for all the contribution, but my mind was biased in the first place and only needed to see what else could pop up on the radar apart from XC90 and the Jeep I am familiar with.

I could not get a Volvo army puny budget so I went for a 2007 grand Cherokee 4x4 with 3.7l V6.

It was not in the best of shape but the only 4WD in my range. I just installed new struts and shocks front and back, will replace front brakes and rotors tonight

As you can see the strut was bad the bump stop had been running into it and the oil was leaking out. The rear shocks we're bad too they were factory installed in 2006.

Cheap car that I can park for the next 2 years and any family member can drive without me sweating, no part on it will be useful to those human rats.
If I park Lexus or XC90 for two months things go happen

You have the 3.2L or the V8 engine.

Either one is fine.

if you love a powerful drive, faster take off, or you travel a lot the V8 is for you.

careful with the accelerator sha. e dey move from rest like rocket.

otherwise the 3.2 is just fine

The difference in fuel consumption is not really that significant between both trims

??

CRV/RAV 4 of which year?

The other person was specific as to the Volvo year he was asking about.....

Anyway, I don't know much about CRV or RAV 4. I haven't used either.

and I don't know what your question is exactly, I presume you mean fuel consumption?

The 2008 XC90 Volvos have a 72 Litre tank and average 15Mpg City/ 20Mpg Highway

Nobody with fuel consumption as a prime factor buys SUVs BTW.
