Just tackle financial crisis in the sector. Help discos recover debts. They will reinvest and boost operations. Strengthen transmission. Haba! It's not rocket science

how will you help them recover debts? do you know why they have lots of debts? that is the question you should ask. at the moment, they grapple with revenue leakages due to billing deficiencies. That has to be addressed via the MAPS scheme, which will take sometime to clear the deficit.

Hmm! Debts mostly based on estimated bills? I know some people still owe on legitimate bills. The best way forward is to provide meters for every home. You don't need to go round checking meters because those who don't pay are automatically disconnected. Why are they shying away from doing this?

You're on point with regards to transmission. It's a weak link.

My dear, I give u A1 for ur point raised on metering but that's where d corruption is. If they give everyone prepaid, all opportunities to steal from d citizens would b closed

Bros, DISCOs are not your only problem.
FG, generation, transmission all share in the blame but with the greater blame on FG.
What magic can DISCOs perform with 4,000MW in a large country like Nigeria?

The privatisation was not a 'sham' and I bet you, I don't see the Buhari govt revoking those licenses.
The Vice President even said so. Revoking licences won't solve any problem
Do you know that DISCO don't even waste most of their allocations. There is poor Distribution system in place. If the Discos are serious they should overhaul the distribution network first

Recovery of depth is not rocket science ......yes, it is in the immediate installation of meters. The first and important stage in depth recovers is to ensure the complete installation of meters.

If the FG is really serious they should look beyond the present gas turbines and national grid system and adopt new
Low cost
Flexible
Long life span technologies
like the one developed by this MIT professor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiRrvxjrJ1U

http://www.ambri.com

This has been in development since 2012. Still needs two years of testing but it shows a lot of promise.

Why Nigeria with its power issues, lack of legacy infrastructure and oil money is not at the forefront of financing and experimenting with these products is beyond me.

useless govt! should never have sold out phcn, phcn was a major revenue earner for the FG , you sell such strategic asset to incompetent cronies who have not made any significant investment in the power sector infrastructures , they just collect bills for power they dont supply and carry the revenue overseas.

we shall be enjoying 2000mw for a long time.

Fashola's promise of stable power supply in six months has since vanished into thin air. When one is on the grandstand one easily sees errors in the game but as soon as one gets on field of play one sees less error or no error.

It has been said that collection losses are unsustainable. So fit the little power generated, the DISCOs appear inadequate in collecting the revenue for it.

Where's

no no they put on every new topic , so as they make front page , their bet post is already there, they put in on every new post, once u put a new topic they will put it, surprisingly they do get scapegoats , their scapegoats always like remaining silent after the transactions, what mods here don't know is out of 10 scapegoats , 5 do run away and never come to read news here again, the remaining 5 don't bother to go through comments again, thereby making NL less attractive , as at last 2 years random normal Tonto dike news making 10-15 pages , nowadays it's about 2-3 pages, apart from football or during election period news these days hardly do 5 pages, and these bet stuff is seriously behind it.

I learnt DISCOs don't control the distribution. That belongs to TCN.

Power and good infrastructure. Distribution companies are bunch of criminals. Provide prepaid meters for all households you will then see distribution companies function well.
I am disappointed in Osibanjo on this. Simple thing, let prepaid meter get to all household in Nigeria. Until that is don, power sector will bot be real and fare business neither will any restructure make significant change

Oga is debt recovery that difficult? All this debt recovery talk is just a load of crap.At least before they invested they ought to have planned on how to recover their debts and not just keep on using that as an excuse to fleece the populace. For example why can't they adopt a 10 year method of debt recovery in which they allocate prepaid meters to their customers and spread out existing debts on each recharge such that they could be getting 10% of the previous debt per year.
Also, they can lobby for legislation that makes meter bypassing a criminal offence with a very heavy fine/jail term. This will be a win win situation for everyone involved but I know those rogues at the DISCO'S don't want that to happen because of their crocked ways. I bet you if the DISCO'S continue with this current status quo, they will keep on complaining of debt and aren't going to recover shi-shi till Jesus comes
