But ordinary BSc awarded, if the duration is exceeded ie for students with “extra year”

I don't agree with you on this. There are people that do not graduate at the speculated time but honours is still written on their certs. This is not the right answer at all.

whether your degree cari hon, tusk, dada or whatever. To make am for this country ehn, you must get atleast one of these: money, connection or God. But na the latter sure pass.

That's not true. All Engineering degrees carry honours being first class, second class or third class. Thus, your answer is far from it.

Over here, you need 120 credits to pass the year, so a normal 3 year honour degree would give you 360 credits. Now, let's say you messed up in year 1 or 2, you failed a 20 credit module AND its resit, you have the option to downgrade to an ordinary degree, which means you'll now be doing 100 credits per year instead.

B.Sc (Hons.) is awarded if you've completed your 4yrs course in 4yrs while ordinary B.Sc is awarded if you have spill over or extra year (be it one or lengthy).

I will illustrate with engineering,, engineering in Nigeria universities is normally 5yrs,bt it's shouldn't exceed 7yr,,,if u can graduate within dis period, whatever d result, it goes with honour,,, but if u exceed d 7yrs ,,den no honour,, Dats y our HOD will advice us to get second class lower division or third class with honour,, rather malpractice n b given 3yrs suspension den graduate without honour....

This is the only factual explanation I've seen here, others are mere conjectures and it shows the real quality of (hons) people have. A Pass Certificate acquired with knowledge and honestly is far better than 2:1 with (hons) we're talking about here. You find people gathering and finding solutions to past questions without any quality studies hence without true knowledge of the courses they earn high grades. To me, this is a fraud in itself! That's the main reason graduates have failed the nation even the face of bad leadership. With the right mindset to education, we would have been much better than we're now.

Its a UK education system. Hons means you completed a project work while graduating without a project work gets you only a B.Sc without Hons. So here in Nigeria we can conveniently say we all graduate with Hons since a project work isn't an option to the best of my knowledge in our universities.

Most of those people that would go and spend 3 years outside Nigeria and come back, come back with no "Hons"

shut up hons is for people that don't use more than the stipulated time

so, we don't have any lecturer that can explain the differences, in nairaland.

B.Sc.(hons) are for those that graduated with 1st class, 2nd upper division, 2nd class lower division and third class while ordinary B.Sc. are for those that graduated with pass. Reason is there is no honour in pass as you only attended the institution with no grade.
