CHAPTER FOUR


"How old are you Nanya?" Louis asked as soon as they settled back in the car.


"Am 24, and yea, thanks for the food" Nanya said yawning.


"That's nothing, you are welcome"


"Oh yeah, you said you need my help, what do i need to do for you?" Nanya said turning to face him.


"There is this work i got, I am supposed to redesign the interior of the company, but the C.E.O rejected the first one we did, he said he needs something different and new, and the deadline is in two weeks" Louis rolled his eyes.


"So how can i be of help?" Nanya asked still looking lost.

"What do you say about me offering you a job?, I need you to be my personal assistant, i want to keep you close to me" He said softly.


"Now am getting more confused, first of all, you have not even told me what i need to do for you concerning your work that got rejected, and now you are talking about offering me a job, you don't even know if am educated or not" Nanya answered breathing hard.


"You don't need to be educated before you become my assistant, the most important thing is that you know much about designs, your designs are natural and attracting, what is your highest qualification in education, like how far have you gone?" Louis asked suddenly.


"Just an ND holder, i couldn't go back for my HND after Dad died" she shrugged.


"Ouch, am sorry for that, what of your mom?"

"My mom?, She is eeer she is fine, so do you think am still qualified to work for you?" Nanya asked trying hard to put the discussion about her mother aside.


"You are resuming on Monday by 8:30 am, and we will leave for the company by 10 am or so, and please don't forget to come with your book, the one you sketch your designs in, I will need him to pick one himself" Louis said with seriousness etched on his face.


"Hahahaha, you sure have a way of making me laugh, okay then, i will resume on Monday, thanks for the job offer" Nanya replied laughing out loud.


"Yea, how much are your bedsheets?, I mean all of them, how many are they?" Louis asked.


"They are 22 in number, you can forget about buying any from me, you gave me food and you even offered me a job, am grateful for that"


"How much are they?"

"33, 850" she replied tiredly.


"Am buying all of them, but you will still get to keep it, you can be using them for me, i have enough bedsheet at home" he answered turning the ignition.


"Thanks, thanks" Nanya said smiling.








"Good morning Leo" Louis greeted as soon as they stepped in to his office.


"Oh, Louis, welcome, please have a seat" Leo said.

"Leo, this is Nanya, my personal assistant, she will be working with me from now on, Nanya, this is Leo, the owner of this huge company and the person we are working for" Louis introduced both of them.


"Good morning sir, nice to meet you" Nanya greeted with a smile.


"Good morning beautiful, Louis you never told me that you have such a beautiful woman as your personal assistant" Leo said smiling at Nanya.


"Oh common Leo, scratch that and let's move down to business, Nanya, show him the designs you came with and let him pick one" Louis said rolling his eyes at Leo.


"These are the designs sir, just pick one" Nanya said handing him the book.


"Okay, after going through the book, am picking this one, page 5 number 3" Leo said giving her back the book.


"Okay sir, but you have to extend the deadline, two weeks is small for this work" Nanya pleaded.


"It's okay beautiful, just take your time and please can you stop this sir of a thing, my name is Leonard, your boss is a good friend of mine and since you are his assistant, you are my friend too" leo said winking at her.


"Woman wrapper" Louis mouthed sneering at him and making sure that Nanya didn't hear him.


"No problem sir, thanks for your understanding" Nanya replied.


"We should be on our way, we will start the work by Thursday, have a nice day Leo" Louis replied giving him a handshake.

CHAPTER FIVE


"Louis, i was only gone for three days and then boom, you got a personal assistant" Charles said strutting into the office.


"Charles, welcome home bro, how was the seminar?" Louis asked smiling.


"It was fine and stressful, but wetin man pikin go do na? we have to make money, ehe, what is up with the personal assistant thingy, i never knew you needed one" he said letting out a breath.


"She is Nanya, the girl i told you about, from new Haven junction" Louis explained.


"Nanya, new Haven junction, I don't know her" Charles said.


"Come on Charles, the girl that sells bedsheets with the finest designs i have ever seen" Louis smiled.


"Oh, she?, How come she is your personal assistant?, She should have started from the lowest department so that we can groom her and teach her things she doesn't know" Charles said eyeing Louis.


"Charles this girl has got potentials, you need to see the way she is handling the work we have with Leo's company, she has many designs that Leo had to pick one himself" Louis said passionately.


"Wait, you mean you have already given her a work, which year did she graduate from the University and which school?, Did she serve?" Charles asked all at a time.

"She is not yet done with school, just an ND holder but that doesn't mean anything, she can design and that's all that matters" Louis shrugged.


"Oh my gosh, Louis you are driving me crazy right now, you mean you offered someone who is just an ND holder a job in our company and not just a low position but instead, you made her your personal assistant, are you sure you know what you are doing?" Charles asked.


"I know what am doing Charly, imagine, Leo that gave us two weeks deadline extended it and even told us to take our time, the girl sure knows what she is doing" Louis replied sighing.


"You and i know that Leo is a chronic womanizer, a woman wrapper, am sure he extended the deadline because he wants to get into her pants and not because she has potentials." He hissed.


"Stop all these Charles and let's give her a chance, trust me, she won't disappoint us" Louis eyed him.


"You know you can't fall in love with her or anybody right?, I hope you know that you will end up hurting whosever you are going into a relationship with?" Charles muttered.


"Of course i know all of that Charles, why are you bringing it up?" Louis asked frowning.


"I just needed to be sure that you know you can't be in a relationship with her or even love her" Charles replied standing up.


"Just trust me on this one" he replied as though he was pleading.


"The same thing you said when Betty came along and then what did she do?, She left when she found out, i just hope she won't be another Betty" Charles hissed again.


"Please don't remind me about Betty, and Nanya is not like Betty, she is different" Louis said rolling his eyes.


"Okay, if you say so, i will be in my office then, have a nice day Boss" he left immediately.






"Sir, you called me?" Nanya asked as soon as she stepped in to his office.


"Oh yeah Nanya, i have gotten the paints we will need for the job, and am having a meeting with the painting department, and also the drivers have been informed to make sure our Vans are in order for tomorrow" Louis explained looking for something on his table.


"Okay sir, what time are we leaving tomorrow?"


"It will be in the morning, we need to start early enough" he replied calmly.


"Sir, i don't think your friend likes me" Nanya said after a while.


"You mean Charles?, Why would you say something like that?" Louis asked looking up at her for the first time since she entered his office.


"I walked past him on my way to your office, i greeted him and he replied with a muffled voice and then hissed" Nanya shrugged.


"Don't worry, when you guys get to know each other, you will become friends" Louis said with a smile.


"Okay sir, it's lunch time, let me go to the canteen then" Nanya replied turning to leave.


"Oh yeah, go ahead i will join you later" Louis replied with a wave of the hand.

"Hello beautiful, are you done for the day?" Leo asked immediately Nanya stepped out of the premises.


"It is Nanya and not beautiful, and yea, am done for the day" Nanya said eyeing him.


"Oh, am sorry about that but you are really beautiful, so where are you headed, i can drop you off you know, and also get to know you better" he smiled.


"Am sorry sir, you don't need to bother about me, i will be fine" she said already moving away from him.


"Of course i know you will be fine, i just want to drop you off, just a harmless drive" Leo shrugged.


"Okay sir, if you say so" Nanya sighed.


"Please, Leonard will be better, you make me look old with this sir of a thing" he complained walking around to open the door for her.


"Okay Leo, thanks" Nanya replied shutting the door with the shake of a head.


"So, where do you stay?" Leo asked starting the car.


"Golf Estate, Independence Layout, not too far from here" Nanya replied looking out of the window.


"Wow, you stay in an estate?, That's so cool" he replied swerving the car to the right.


"Yea, maybe* Nanya replied nonchalantly.


"Nanya?, What kind of a name is that?, I have never heard or seen anyone bearing that name" Leo asked after thinking of things to talk about.


"Actually, it was coned out from Ifunanya, when i was in primary school, my maths teacher then was an Hausa woman, she couldn't pronounce my full name so she decided to shorten it to Nanya, and since then, the nam got stucked with me" she muttered.


"Wow, she did well, but i actually prefer Ifunanya, i hope you don't mind?" He said with a smile.


"Sure, am okay with it, it is my name after all" she replied softly.


"Can we go out this weekend?, I really want to spend time with you, i want to know you more" he said so calmly as though he was a baby that was begging for ice cream from his mom.


"Am a busy lady Leo, no chance for me to go out" she hissed.


"You don't work on Saturdays and Sundays, so what will you be doing?"


"I spend weekends with my younger sister and also clean the house and do some laundry" she scoffed.


"Few hours of your time won't stop you from doing all the things you mentioned, look, i like you, Ifunanya, a lot, just give me a chance please" he pleaded.


"Just turn left and stop right in front of the first house by the right, that's my house" she pointed out.


"Please, am begging you, just give me a chance, i will treat you right please believe me" he let out a full breath.


"Okay, fine, just a date and nothing else?" she asked


"Yes, yes, just a date, please type in your number here" he said handing her his phone.


"Alright, thanks for the ride, see you some other time" she said hastily getting down from the car.


"I will give you a call" he shouted behind her.






"So you have decided to become a prostitute in my house right?, Who was the man that just dropped you?" Mrs Obidinma thundered.


"And what made you think you still have the right to ask me that question, you never cared about i and my sister, so what do you care if i become a prostitute or not" Nanya answered rudely.


"Am not concerned about you, am only concerned about my reputation and for the fact that you are still living in my house, you have to respect your old age" she said picking up her i-pad from the table.


"Am not surprised at all, the only thing you are after is your reputation, do you even know my name? She sobbed.


"I don't need to know your name young lady before i stop you from ruining my reputation, it's better you go back to selling bedsheets on the road than becoming a prostitute" she eyed her.

"What did we ever do to you?, Why do you hate us too much?, Why do you detest us to the core?" she sniffed.


"Am not here to exchange words with you or look at any fake tears, just know that my reputation is important to me, have a nice evening" she stood up climbing the stairs leaving Nanya all alone.
