Lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, has advised the federal government to replace the suspended Ruga settlement scheme with ranching.

Falana stated this, while reacting to the suspension of Ruga settlement by the federal government.

“As far back as 2016 the Buhari administration had opted for ranching.

“To actualise the ranching policy 11 states had made available 55,000 hectares of land.

“Ranching has also been adopted by the National Livestock Policy of the Buhari administration.

“What is now left is for the immediate implementation of the ranching programme,” Falana said in a statement.

Falana believed Ruga was suddenly introduced from the blues, by some fifth columnists in the administration.

He added: “Ruga should not just be suspended but cancelled completely by the federal government. It should be replaced with ranching funded by state governments and individual stakeholders with the assistance of the federal government.

“However if the federal government is interested in establishing ranches in the states, it should apply for building approval from the state governments because the supreme court has held that physical planning is not in the exclusive legislative list.”

Truth is most of the herders and fulanis don't pay taxes neither do they want to be controlled or follow the laws laid down by their hosts. Rearing animals is a personal business but here we are watching the FG wanting to fund it. The state govt should take over so as to tax these businesses and raise fund for accommodating States.

Class be quite let's hear from LLB, SAN, Baba Falana.

What would have followed after implementing Ruga would have been the In flux of Fulani from Mali, Liberia etc.
Secondly, the Ruga in the north would have been as sour as bitter leaf to them whereas that of SS/SE/MB would have been seen as SUGAR RUGA.

Nigerians must not subscribe to the ranching either, because if you give them land for ranching, they are going to use it to build Ruga
All these old men should not put youth in trouble
We just have to get rid of APC government and herdsmen problem would be a problem of yesterday, they are no terrorist they are just doing rubbish because of Buhari in power

One of the wisest, incorruptible and most patriotic Nigerians alive. Put this man together with Shehu Sani, Abubakar Umar, Pat Utomi, Wole Sowore, a repentant Ribadu and two or 3 others and Nigeria MAY have hope. And tap into the skills of a few politicians like Donald Duke and Ngozi Okonki (but dont give them power o, a Nigerian politician can never be trusted)

But its like Abukakar Umar (former Colonel) has given up hope on Nigeria. I Dont blame him.

Why Buhari is so desperate to Fulanise this country is what I don't know, from Grazing to Cattle colonies to ranching to the 100 billion naira allocated to Miyetti Allah, to Fulani radio and now Ruga, and someone will think there isn't an ulterior motive behind it. Odiegwu

Ranching is better and should be seen as private investment not one funded from the national purse! Besides, let Fulani herders have their ranches up North, if we need their beef we'll buy from them! We are better off as distant friends. I hope those of us down South can tap into the ranching thing and stop depending on their cows for meat, I don't think rearing cows and selling them as meat should be solely a Fulani thing undecided

Why is nobody talking about the 30days ultimatum issued by the Arewa?
However, cattle business is a private one and should be treated as it is...
the state or FG can only assist in loans and grants as it done to other businesses.
No Southern state governor should invest in ranching if the project is targeted at generating money from Fulani
cos they have no respect for "constituted authority", they hate taxation, they love cow more than humans,
they trade in terrorism and other illicit activities.

since M. Buhari is so concerned about some people's personal cattle rearing business, what is stopping him from supporting my pig business?
Aren't we one Nigeria again?

Livestock industry development will no doubt be of great economic value to any country. In Nigeria this move would be a revival and major improvement of a colonial heritage, and it is about time.

Those working against ranching or Ruga ( call it whatever name) are only directing their hostility against Buhari and they will oppose whatever development he introduces. It is a manifestation blind ethnic hatred and they can not overcome their anger over the Buhari’s second term election victory. ( in their wildest miscalculation they believed that Atiku could become the President and Peter Obi the Vice President Of this country).

Postage stamps from the colonial Nigeria traditionally depicts potential wealth and areas of development or ongoing projects. Thank God our attention is returning to livestock and dairy development as well.

The problem is not terminology but it is about hate.introduce ranching the same senseless fools will still say exactly the same things, because they have deep seated HATE.

Rather than advise the president, advise the legion of people who despite not having a single state from their region participating in the scheme where the ones making the most hateful and inflammatory statements on it

As long as they will keep it in the North, they can ranch and ruga all they want. Or maybe their South Western apologist can accommodate them.

We do not have space for any such thing in the South East and South South.
