Lagos is indisputably located in the SW. However, it would be silly to conveniently ignore the advantage Lagos has over all other states WRT revenue-generating agencies and infrastructure at the federal level.

Your line of argument actually sounds silly, Akwa Ibom and Rivers with 1/4 of Lagos state's population, huge allocations, and IGR are actually richer than Lagos state and they really should be far ahead of Lagos state, but they are not because it's not always about advantage, money or commercial capital, it's always about leadership talent and personal qualities of the administrators.

Commerce is all about money and the SS states have more of it and less population than Lagos regardless of Lagos state as whatever commercial capital you are talking about

You can have all the money and advantages in the world, but unless you know how to manage it for more growth, you are not going anywhere.

Abeg stop the weak argument.

Ogun generating more revenue than the SE is highly doubtful given that the report you based your comparison on shows SW IGR to be 877.8 billion with Lagos generating 501.2 billion of that amount. Unless you are saying Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Oyo states generated a combined total less than 35 billion, there's no way Ogun generated more than 340.1 billion which is the revenue allegedly generated by the SE in the post quoted below.

OGUN - 84,554,199,593.67

Still more than the whole of SE with extra change sef.

Like I said, I based my analysis on the most recent stats that got you all excited going by which Ogun state's revenue could not be more than that of the SE.
Based on the data the site you provided, Ogun allegedly generated more than the SE in Q4 2018. However, the SE despite it's clear disadvantages, was not still not least productive in that quarter.

It's funny how they beat chest all the time that they are the richest and they own everything all over the country, but when you confront them with facts, they start coming up with laughable and elementary school excuses.

And you believe employment opportunities, industries, leveraging natural resources etc that I mentioned previously are independent of quality of leadership? Or you didn't quite comprehend?
Fact is, Lagos has has a head start in these areas over other states. I don't know enough about Ogun State.

What converse with a troll that argue without facts? Whatever that was, the artificial table you provided that lack integral part is nothing but nonsense.

Now, let me ask you, is Ogun and few states missing or not in that news you called stat or not?

I’ve been following the discussion from the front page and kudos to all those that are contributing.

One thing the Igbos got to understand is that reality is always different from fantasy. They’ve been all around saying they are the richest region but statistics always say otherwise.

They talk about making up the chunk of investors in the SW region (Lagos as a case study), what they don’t know is that most of these guys from other regions are using up the resources of Lagos state also, putting a lot of pressure on the road, government facilities, limited resources e.t.c.

The reality is that Southwest is a favorable environment for investment, investors from other region knows this which explains why they will never go back to their region coz they won’t be able to see the kind of market they have in the SW. If they try to move their base to other region, they may eventually run at a loss coz Lagos purchasing power is very high.

They always claim Lagos is excelling because it used to be the FCT, but they all forget Lagos is what it is due to a lot of things, it’s environment, the brains at the helm of affairs (govt), region it is located, and the spirit of Lagosians.

Ogun is excelling now and in a matter of time, Oyo state will be part of the massive development of the SW IGR, let’s see what excuse the nay sayers will give then.

The OP should rather find a way to make sure the SE can up their game and find a technical way to generate more IGR rather than trying to justify the reason why they tend to be below other regions.

This data that you now discount is the sole reason for this thread and other associated conversations this week.
A user named Sarrki post these stats quoting the same source you now discard and you all jumped on it because it said SE had the lowest IGR, hence productivity. I countered that based on the elementary of IGR and you then try to step over the point. If we go by stats you provided after the fact, then NE had the lowest IGR and productivity in 2018 and the NW had the next lowest productivity so the assertion that SE is the least productive region is still invalidated.
If the stats Sarrki posted are inaccurate, then why was it fit for purpose and his source not questioned as long as it furthered an agenda.
You are the one attempting to be clever (by half)

You may be lost but I'm not. This entire conversation is a spin off from the one initially started based on the "aba-made" stats posted by Sarrki with the sole aim of showing the SE as the least productive region, which both the "aba-made" stats and your "reliable" stats have debunked.

Nwadiuto247:

Dont mind ignorant people. South east doesnt tax people crazy as we witness in PH here and other parts of the country.

You just do your business in SE, make your profit and pay little tax and continue to grow your business.

Again in a country where one provides water, electricity, good roads, good education, good health facilities etc. for yourself, whats the point of worrying yourself about big IGR that will be looted by politicians? These people in nairaland mumu.

This is the people's attitude when it comes to taxes.

And they wonder why they are poor and their governors cannot start and complete any decent project.

Greatness is a reflection of the people's attitude when it comes to social responsibilities like paying taxes and also the leader's competence and desire to collect taxes, but the SE is a region with lawless people, taxes evaders and incompetent leaders.

You confuse yourself.
Productivity is Not "all about igr", rather productivity is to be considered in IGR analysis. If IGR of two regions are identical but one region has a larger workforce than the other, which would you say is more productive?

I apologise, my arguments might be a tad difficult for the obtuse to follow.
I will break it down one last time.
1. This thread was instigated by a different one on IGR by region, which was started with the intention of making mischief because of the recently declared stance of SE governors on Ruga settlements
2. The data incorrectly referred to total revenue as IGR and showed SE's "IGR" to be the lowest
3. I used that specific data to demonstrate that SE was in fact not the least productive region despite having the lowest "IGR"
4. You argued that the population data I used was incorrect and later on presented a different data set which appears to be more accurate, assuming data from Nigerian agencies are reliable. Having looked at your data, it's become clear why sarrki mischievously chose to present total revenue instead of IGR.
5. I, again, used your data set to show that SE was still not the least productive
6. I have implied and stated that productivity is key in analysing revenue E.g. if 8 salesmen generate £2000 and 5 salesmen generate £1500, the latter group is clearly the more productive group
7. You somehow inferred that "productivity isn't about igr", I'm yet to understand from which of my posts you came to that understanding. I can't defend what I neither said nor implied so you're going to have to look for clarity on what you understood elsewhere.
8. I have also stated that the disproportionately high revenue from Lagos is primarily because of its position as the commercial capital of Nigeria. This cannot be disputed. Even though Ogun state's IGR is quite high, which is commendable, it is nowhere close to Lagos's.

At the bolded, you are a nitwit. A very one at that grin

Forget about Ogun state having closemess to Lagos for, if we must focus on population pray tell us why the whole of SE region igr is quite below that of Ogun state ?

Productivity is the key. If not I see no reason a state in SW with less population to SE should have a higher igr.
