Im a graduate of industrial chemistry and currently work in an FMCG, with over 5 years of working experience, no travel history. I want to relocate to New Zealand. I have seen vocational courses to apply for since their fees is not quite expensive. Its a 12 weeks course, my question is
1) can i work during my 12 weeks as a student?
2)after my visa expires can i change my status of my visa to live permanently or have work permit? Because i don't want to come back here to Nigeria once i leave.

I strongly doubt about the feasibility of this your plan.

1) I don't think you can work if your course of study is less than 14 weeks. You can find more details on this link.

2) To be qualified for a post study work visa I think you need to have studied at least a level 4 course. You can check this link for more details.

It will be spring by then so I can tell you that it's definitely not going to be hot. Expect something around 5°C - 18°C then rain.

It will be mostly cold morning and evening and warm afternoon I guess. You should be alright bro. I've had reasons to be in Auckland around those seasons on few occasions without any form of jacket( just t-shirts)

if u go through Perth, u wil need a transit visa for Australia.... Tell ur agent or whoever to route u through Honk kong instead of Perth . SAA also have that route. Just re-route

I just check SA now, they said we're stopping over in Pert for 7hrs:15m

Alright mate, Upto u what u decide......but if I were u, I will go for certainty than risking not being allowed to board on your travel date.
The only non- transit visa required route I know of are Honk kong and Bangkok Thailand.

Do I need a visa to transit through Australia?
You may need a Transit visa (subclass 771) if you plan to travel through Australia to another country.

If you are transiting though Australia for less than eight hours and you do not need to leave the airport transit lounge (except to board your connecting flight), you may not need to apply for a Transit visa (subclass 771).

If you are going to stay in Australia for longer than 72 hours, you cannot get a Transit visa and you will need to apply for another type of visa.

If you belong to one of the categories and meet the criteria outlined below, you can transit through Australia without applying for a visa.

Categories of eligible travellers
The following categories of travellers are eligible to transit through Australia without applying for a visa if they also meet the criteria below:

Citizens of the following countries:

Eligible travellers must be able to meet the following criteria to be permitted to transit Australia without applying for a visa. Travellers must:

enter Australia by aircraft

hold a confirmed onward booking to leave Australia to travel to a third country on the same or another aircraft within 8 hours of arrival in Australia hold documentation necessary to enter the country of destination and not need to leave the airport transit lounge except to continue their journey.

Important information about certain Australian airports
If passengers are required to pass through Immigration clearance and check-in to their onward flight, including managing their luggage, they will require a visa to enter Australia.
An appropriate visa for this purpose will need to be applied for and granted before travelling to Australia.

Passengers transiting at Perth airport (PER) will need an appropriate visa for Australia if flights are departing from different terminals.

There are limited transit facilities available at the Gold Coast airport (OOL).

Overnight stays are not permitted at Cairns (CNS) and Sydney (SYD) airports. Passengers transiting overnight will need an appropriate visa for Australia to leave the airport to access overnight accommodation.

Transit facilities at Adelaide airport (ADL) are only available for passengers arriving and departing on the same aircraft. However the transit lounge will be made available for other transit passengers if the airline provides advance notice.

Note: This information is not applicable to stateless persons and refugees.

I was given AU visa in 2017 and didn't violate their rules, so I think there would be no issue apply for Transit Visa.

One of the benefits I enjoy is having my Visa come early and ample time to prepare

Bro, according to what you posted this is what they said about Perth.

are you transiting through different terminals? If yes, then apply for a transit visa as fast as possible. In fact, I think it's safe to apply for a transit visa whether different terminals or not. Just in case of any irregularities. It should be easy for you since you were in Australia for the same conference few years ago. They will see some consistency in your travel history and shouldn't be difficult to get.

However, if the price difference with other airlines is not much just go for some other one that won't need to transit through Australia.

My experience I would share below.

I've been getting PMs from Nairalanders and I always direct them to this thread so we can get it more interactive.

My application was submitted on Tuesday 11th June, 2019.

I was contacted by case officer on Wednesday 19th, June 2019 requesting for more information.

Between 19th and 27th we were having back and forth exchanges o we the information required, but was able to scale through on 27th June, when officer said he's satisfied with the information I've provided.

Next was making payment to VFS in Pretoria for Passport handling fees.
Sent them Sterling bank debit card details, it failed
Sent them Zenith Bank debit card details, it failed.
Went to my bank to do Form M according to CBN rules, I was declined the usage.


On Monday 1st July, 2019 I opened a dollar denominated Account and did international transfer. The money entered the VFS account on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2019.
They sent my Passport to Immigration NZL embassy in Pretoria on Thursday 4th, July, 2019.

By Friday, 5th July, 2019 My Visa was granted.

That's how the journey has been.

I sent passport via UPS, paid ₦14,500
Same UPS picked passport from SA at a cost of ₦18,000

Purpose of travel is to attend 11th ICVPME, in Auckland, this year.

That's my story, for anyone interested in visiting NZL
