The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria notifies passengers and other airport users that in a bid to foster effective landside traffic management, the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos has constituted a task force to ensure improvement in the flow of vehicular traffic.

The objective of the task force, which is made up of officers from the aviation security department and other relevant security agencies shall be to control vehicular movement, prevent unauthorized parking at terminal forecourts/curbsides and enforce the drop-off/pick-up zone policy of the airport.

Passengers and drivers are therefore advised to please cooperate with the officials and ensure compliance to the guidelines given by the officers.

I have a good idea which I proposed to them before: GET A STANDING ORDER FROM THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF, POLICE IG, CHIEF OF AIR STAFF and other top paramilitary heads to endorse these orders.......NO ONE BELOW THEIR rank would ever give issues!!! PERIOD!!!

why do Nigerians find it difficult to obey traffic rules. but they know how to Bleep.

What happened to the massive underground parking lot beneath the MMIA airport? It used to be functional in the past, and passengers could take the lift, directly from the terminal to the basement car park. This helped to curtail traffic at the international airport.

What happened later? They closed it up and allowed it to rot. It is still there, empty and rotting away in darkness.

Next, they put in place passenger buses, to carry travellers from the airport to the open space car park, located several metres away from the building terminal.

Cars were parked in the open space car park, and intending travellers had to join the buses to the airport terminal to board their flights. This helped to curtail traffic.

After a while, those luxurious buses started breaking down, and only few ones were made available to passengers. Long queues then started to emerge.

Traffic management became a nightmare at the international airport, as all kinds of cars were allowed to drive straight up the ramp leading to the arrival and departure halls.

Until we get the fundamental basics right in this country, we will just waste time creating stupid rules to treat the symptoms, instead of curing the disease of traffic congestion, from the roots.

That structure they are building on that airport road is impressive. When it finished it will be too impressive for an airport that looks like a dilapidated shopping mall. Obviously, it will ease traffic when it becomes functional.

It has little to do with govt, but the people who are appointed to run the airport. If the right people are put in charge, and given the freedom, tools and resources to run it, it will work.

The major local and international airports in South Africa are owned by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). Guess what? That company's majority shareholder is the South African Government which owns 74.6% of its' shares.

Geneva Airport is the international airport of Geneva, the second most populous city in Switzerland. Guess what? The owners and operators of that airport still remains the City of Geneva, which is the equivalent of a state govt in Nigeria. Yet, it is well run, and turns a tidy profit each year. Everybody in the civil service is a thief all out to get what he can. Go and investigate. Most civil servants live above their means. Even effcc officials are millionaires.

Look at the shoprite car park toll booth or lekki concession toll gate how efficiently they are ran and compare to that of Lagos Airport. They have the toll machine there but they will "chook" it so it will break down and hence sell paper tickets printed by them.

Nigeria airways initially was doing fine along with the first privately run international airline owned by chief victor Vanni until corruption and Nigerian mentality killed them all.
Nigeria airways you will buy first class ticket on our 747 jets. The pilot will refuse you climbing upstairs to the first class because he has kept his girl friends there. You will book flight but on your return journey you will be stranded abroad because no money to fuel the aircraft. Passengers have to contribute. Nigeria airways officials will buy staff tickets for 5% the normal cost. Government officials will refuse to pay or delay flights as a big man is comming.

The rot in Nigeria Airways started during the 2nd Republic. Before that, Nigeria Airways was doing rather well.

What happened after that? The politicians connived with some of the airline's unscrupulous staff, to mismanage the firm.

Nigeria Airways took on the name in 1971 and once had 30 aircraft, including the best available aeroplanes at the time...

A lot of the gossip that emanated from that era which you recycled here, were grossly exaggerated, and most of it took place during the 2nd Republic. I still recall family and friends travelling in 1992, on first class tickets via Nigeria Airways, and getting good seats, on a smooth flight.

Nobody is denying that Nigeria Airways did not deteriorate, and ended up with huge debts before it was finally shut down, but at a certain period before things went downhill for the airline, it was run by professionals, during the era of Gowon up till when OBJ became military head of state. And it was profitable during that era.

I still maintain that airports in many parts of the world are run by public officials, employed by govt. And their airports work! It is just our own people that have refused to do things properly.
