Good morning nairalanders.

My visa was delayed in May.

This morning, while I was trying to book an appointment, I saw two options
>>refused (if my visa was once refused)
>> regular (my first time of applying for visa)

I saw " next available appointment" on the left hand side of the screen as (29th of August)

However, after clicking the first option above (refused) I noticed that the next available appointment option changed to 3rd of January 2020. And I am to start school in August next month.

Please did I make any mistake by selecting Refused ?
Cause I was warned that there might be implications for wrong selection.

CHUUKKSS:
You can be lucky for the date to change to an earlier one if you login again or be unlucky and it is a farther one, what I did was chose the one I saw, case I heard it the slot could be filled up, I think they give refusals one month later to apply again, Just pick that date, prepare vigorously as you have time to know reason for your previous rejections, then work on it.They feel your status might not change under a week, so they give a longer date.
thanks chuks but can I reach out to you? I have already sent you a mail

The current available date in Lagos us consulate is August 29, is it advisable to reapply as i was denied earlier today and how can I get it to reschedule; the first time I applied I wasn't given the option of the calendar untill I pulled a call through to the embassy and i was asked to login in again and the calendar showed and I was allowed to pick the earliest available date of which I had already used the expedited appointment which was denied.

And how does expedited appointment work, does it require extra payment?

I applied today even though it was showing that same date you saw there, after confirming my appointment, the date changed to January 3rd 2020

Hello everyone, I am a silent follower of this thread but active a couple of times.

So let me give a brief history before the main gist.

I went to the US in Dec 2016 for vacation with my husband and Dad and came back after 13 days. I went to the US alone August 2017 for childbirth, I came back in Jan 2018. Reasons for staying that long is because my pregnancy was termed high risk considering the fact that I had lost 2 children after childbirth to cognital heart diseases and needed my newborn to be checked within the first 6 to 8 weeks of life. I paid ALL my bills to the sum of $19k and it was even stated that I refused medic aid even for the baby. My husband sent additional money through my parents to me when they came visiting Dec of 2017.

Main Gist:

I was denied a student visa this money here at the Abuja Embassy.
This is the transcript of the window 7 consular officer and I.

Visa officer: Pass me your passports and I-20
Me: OK. I passed them.
Visa officer: what are you going to do in the US?
Me: I am going for the Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health at Florida International University.
Visa officer: What do you do and Where do you work?
Me: I am a practising Pharmacist with ******* here in Abuja.
Visa officer: Are these your biological children?
Me : These 2 are but this isn't. She is my husband's niece.
Visa officer: Who is sponsoring you?
Me: My husband and Uncle.
(My husband was behind us. He isn't travelling with us. He only accompanied us for the interview).

Then she pointed at my toddler and asked if she was born in the US and I answered in affirmative.

Then she brought out the green slip and said we are ineligible for the U.S visa.
The Green slip has the section 214b which summarizes lack of home ties.

When I noticed she was just denying pple visas and I wanted to move another window when I heard him call out, the CGI man insisted I stay undecided

What do you guys think happened? Please, what should I do next?

@fairheart and @sharwarma Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

Staying 5 months in the US, it’s unclear what job allowed you that much time to be away. Also going for your masters with your children and dependent, some of who are US citizens (not sure if you mentioned using the B2 visa for childbirth when you originally obtained it for tourism)... it’s clear you don’t have much to bring you back after your studies. You can try again though.

, i am not sure maybe you should try the expedited appointment or wait till you hear of another closer date and reschedule. This was what I was told when I called the embassy concerning getting a closer date.

I am very very confident about of all lite information

You should realize that the US government takes every information you provide seriously. If you are honest, you have no reason to be concerned with routine confirmation of information you have provided in your visa application

I am an employee of the Federal Government of Nigeria. I got the leave of absence from work without pay until maternity leave started officially Mid November, 2017. At that point, I was even ready to leave the job because I wasn't ready to go through another trauma of child loss if my leave was not granted.

My husband sent an email to the embassy asking if I could schedule another appointment (my tourist visa was about 8months then). A representative replied telling us that it wasn't necessary and it was up to us to convince the CBP officer that we could afford the medical expenses. On getting to Atlanta, I remember declaring $14k and telling the CBP officer that I will be staying for 5months.

Only one of our 2 surviving biological children is a US citizen. (the other 2 were born, died and buried here). My husband and I co-own a well thriving pharmacy with about 6 staffs. We both have properties in our names. He has a good job and can't leave it to start afresh in America and I can't abandon my husband and do long distance marriage for too long.

She didn't ask questions and also didn't bother to ask for supporting documents.

@Twoods Thanks so much. I might try again and hope to stand before a happy consular officer willing to be convinced. Your response no carry fire and smoke today. grin grin

Ok looks like you just didn’t get a fair interview to explain yourself. I would apply again and when asked what has changed in your status, simply mention that you were not given sufficient opportunity to state your case regarding your home ties.

Lol I’m now a married man! cheesy

Yes its different. Just visit the nearest Vio office. I think it's only 7k in naira. But as a Nigerian, you should understand the Nigerian ways of getting things done ASAp.

Go to the office of FRSC. It cost less than 15k and should be ready in 7 to 10days.

Please, avoid VIO in this matter. It isn't their job and if it found out that the international driver's license is fake while in the US you might not get away with it easily.
