Equipments you need to start editing

1. PC
Let's talk about the most important... A personal computer or laptop....

So many people just like going to computer village to buy laptop with cool specs like webcam.... Light on keyboard.... Cute design etc.

I remember a friend of mine who is into web development who got one cute sony laptop that year. I paid him a visit and decided to play around with editing (i still be learner that year).
He helped me install premier pro cs6. I loaded in a few video clips and started cutting after cutting to less than a minute video. Oya play back.... It started giving me DJ exclusive scratching. I was now wondering what happened. I played back again the same thing.
It was a disaster. I could not really watch what I was editing to know if it makes sense. I was just there wasting time watching it render for 30mins just to watch a 45 second video.

There is nothing worse than this kind of frustration. If you want to edit videos and you are seriously serious about it. Get a pc with good graphics card.
Good RAM or HARD DISK are important
But Good graphics card is importanter

The brand does not matter but make sure graphics card is on point.
Windows users can work with hp and dell brands. Latest Mac OS users na them dey enjoy editing because the whole thing is smooth that is why big companies prefer to use MACs.

Now if you are using windows pc your best bet is to ask the vendors that you want a good laptop that you can either change the graphics card and also add RAM to. They usually know.

The laptop I use in my office is windows. Its a gamers laptop and is very efficient. The reason is when we got it we installed higher RAM and new graphics card according to the specs stated by Premier pro CC. It costs about 200k in total. Yap e cost reach like that. But you can get cheaper, you need to budget 100k and above.

If no be say NEPA be bunch of coconut heads. A computer will suffice. You can get a cheap computer and install everything you want how you want it. But if you have a good gen and UPS and low budget for pc then I suggest you get a computer.

How do you know the best graphics card to install

On the Adobe website they list out different pc requirements for using their Premier pro software especially compatible graphics. Just follow the specs stated and you will not have issues with your editing process. Here is their link for Premier Pro CC (you can look through the site for requirements of older versions of the software)

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html#gpu-acceleration

UPDATE

Ok let's talk about the next equipment you will need to start editing videos.

2. A video Editing software

If you use a Mac you can use final cut pro but for windows users the best to use is Premiere Pro CC.
You can start with the CS6 but I highly suggest you get the Premiere Pro CC 2017 and above. If your PC can carry it

When I started learning I was using a palasa laptop and learnt using Premiere pro cs6. Then they upgraded to CC and I got the CC 2015. But as my knowledge grew there were some features that I could not find on CC 2015. So I got 2017.

Premiere Pro CC 2017 has been my go-to software for a long time and I enjoy it.
Mainly because of 1 little thing....

Smooth Slow motion Effect. (which I will be teaching you guys how to achieve)

Not like the slow motion they use in Ras kimono under pressure music video... that I cant even believe people still use today to spoil wedding videos grin ...... SHAKY SHAKY SLOW MOTION

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGM7JbZGyIg

Of course I can always upgrade but one thing about these softwares is the way they take dey chop power of the graphics card and RAM. For instance on my laptop I cannot even install Photoshop CC together with Premiere pro CC.

My whole system will just enter slow motion mode that is worse than Lagos traffic.
But I installed Photoshop CS6, After effects CS6, illustrator CC with it because the graphics card and RAM are good enough
So you can stick to Premiere pro CC 2017 on a good PC and you are good to go.

There is a guy I buy softwares from and he gives the e-format (he can install it for you if you like) because most laptops do not come with CD slots anymore. So you need a USB to copy and install it.

You can call him up, he is one of the first people on the left on Otigba street, computer village. He doesn't know me well but I just like to buy from him and his softwares have never caused wahala, he can install it there and then and you verify that it is working before you leave.
Here is his number

Tolu 09090038037

Or you can simply download it online if you have at least 10gb data to burn. Just search on a good torrent site and you get it with the crack.
Just follow the sometimes not-so-clear instructions and you are good to go.

3. A headphone

This might be the least important equipment but I assure it is very important. I did not mention an earpiece (unless its something with the quality of an air pod)...I said a headphone. This equipment is important for 2 reasons.

1. When working you do not want to bother people around. Editing a video especially when its not a music video will sound irritating like someone who is learning guitar and playing rubbish in the name of practice. You don't want to be a nuisance to people.

2. With a headphone you can properly edit the sound of your videos. For instance I was working on this video and it was an sit down interview.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWc8aPXge5c

After shooting the video, making sure there was no sound. I totally left the ceiling fan rolling at the location and my lapel mic picked up most of the noise. I took it to edit and did not hear this sound clearly on my small earpiece but when I listened on a headphone. Jesus Christ is Lord....na wetin I record be this?
I cleaned the audio as much as I could without damaging the main sound but you can still hear it well with a headphone.
A headphone will help you work better when shooting and ESPECIALLY when editing.

When you ask of the best you are talking of millions to invest in a PC. You need to work according to your budget.

Just get a good laptop with good graphics card like I wrote above and you are good to go.

Hey Guys I am glad a lot of you are enjoying my tutorial and I am happy some of you contact me personally with questions on Whatsapp. Its cool but for others to learn as well please drop your questions here so when I answer everyone will benefit and I don't have to answer the same question over and over when someone else hits me up with the same question on Whatsapp.

Another thing, I am preparing my Youtube channel for you guys so you can also learn visually and for those of you who can't wait and want one on one training for only 2 weekends, you can holla me or visit my website to register.

https://shizimedia.com/video-editing-tutorial/

So today I wanna share another software that will aid your video editing process.

AUDACITY

For those of you who do not know Audacity, its a free open source software for editing Audio.

You can use it to clean background noise from video
Change voice to sound like someone is on the phone, thinking or even winsh effect.
You can even record on it so instead of going to Don Jazzy's expensive studio just use Audacity and record your music or voice over in your bedroom.

But the key thing I use Audacity for is to clean my audio.

Audio is a very very important part of film. You might be forgiven for bad quality video (sometimes) but Audio is what will determine if your work makes sense ESPECIALLY if you are shooting a video skit, documentary, music video or film.

With Audacity you can clean your recorded audio so that sshhhh sound that comes with most recorded Audio (no matter what gadget you use) can be cleaned off to a large extent.

Simply download Audacity. Its totally Free to download.

https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html (Less than 30mb)

You can also use Adobe Audition for your Audio editing but that one sef dey collect power for system. So Audacity is a better choice because it is very light and a lot easier to use.

Alright now let's talk a bit about those of you who want to be videographers instead. Who want to be the ones shooting the video instead of editing. For starters, You will need a camera, a tripod, a mic and an Led light.

1. Camera:

For cameras read this post of mine

MisterKings:

Its based on personal preference. Nikon or Canon. Nigerians will say na Canon be koko. I say na lie. Although there are small small reasons why Canon might topple Nikon cameras. But maybe na my eyes but I love the quality of Nikon than Canon especially the Entry Level ones.

I have used and still using both brands. Nikon for my business and Canon at the office. They are both okay.

For starters I suggest

Nikon D3300 (small but mighty)
Nikon D5300 (same specs as Nikon D3300 but e beat am with flip screen)
Canon 60d (flip screen and every Nigerians favorite)
Canon 700d (A bit more pricey but ok too)

The Canon brands are more expensive because they are like Toyota cars, no be say dey be the best o ....but demand has increased their prices.
Now with your budget I dont really think you can get any of these cameras.

I believe the cheapest on this list of Entry level cameras is the Nikon D3300 and it goes for 160k (last I checked at Oshodi Arena)
That is what I use and it has been my baby every since. Although I got mine on Amazon and it was shipped down.

If you have the money go for Canon 60d or Nikon D5300. If you don't then go for the others.

2. Tripod:

That is the second most important item on the list. You cannot do without it 80% of the time you will be shooting and that is because no matter how you try to shoot with your hand steady...it will always shake. Unless you are shooting a subject in motion for instance a wedding video and the bride and groom are dancing and you are shooting and following them at the same time or you are shooting an action movie and you need all that shaky shaky effect. But most times a Tripod is super important.

There are many kinds of Tripods. Most of them are either annoyingly heavy or they are stupidly light in weight. Years back, I was once working in a media firm as a Reporter and Office assistant (hard times) when we are going out for a shoot. I am the one who carried the Tripod. Very heavy thing....the only way I could carry it was on my shoulder. So if you saw me from far you would think I was commando going for war.

So when I started growing and started buying my items little by little. I ordered a Tripod from Aliexpress. It came to Nigeria and I could not cry when I saw it. It was not only short but very light as well with a very useless tripod head that could only hold something as light as those little digital photo cameras. I no fit cry.

It was later I was told by a part time mentor of mine the kind of Tripod I should get. And I got it at Lagos Island (Aroloya area). But you can get it at Oshodi Arena. The Tripod is about N15,000. The brand is Yunteng. Very solid tripod for a DSLR camera. Gets the job done.

Leave your questions below if any and I will answer them all. I am still working on a Vlog and Blog so you guys can have more indepth knowledge of these things. Next I will discuss mic and led light.

Alright now let's talk a bit about those of you who want to be videographers instead. Who want to be the ones shooting the video instead of editing. For starters, You will need a camera, a tripod, a mic and an Led light.

1. Camera:

For cameras read this post of mine
