I personally feel that the justices of the PEPT were cowed into whatever decisions they reached on PDP/Atiku petition. As a Nigerian, knowing our systems (judiciary and political), I never ever expected anything better than the judgement of yesterday. If we must tell ourselves the truth, the country has slide into dictatorial rule. NASS is now a rubber stamp and the judiciary can best be described as comatose. Anyone that challenges the president is looking for trouble as it were. You will either be hounded by EFCC or DSS will pick you up and detain you for God knows how long. Put simply, "truth and justice" are dying, if not dead!

The judiciary became comatose immediately Justice Onnoghen was unceremoniously removed and the NJC was gagged. I can imagine the discussions respected PEPT Justices may have been having in their homes with their children and perhaps in their bedrooms with their wives prior to yesterday. I imagine their wives advising them thus, "my dear, please be careful ooo, I do not want to become a widow" or statements like, "my dear, remember what happened to Onnoghen ... please ooo". There is a local adage that says, "when you behold the destructive activities of the elephant on the roadside, you can imagine what would have happened deep in the forest". Put simply, any judicial officer who witnessed the hounding and sacking of the former CJN would definitely be cowered into towing a safe line in the just delivered judgement.
Pitiful as it may sound, these are trying times in our democratic journey. NASS is a rubber stamp while the judiciary is in a coma. So, the executive impunity holds sway. Strange enough, we have journeyed through this same path in recent past in Nigeria. Some of us will recall the so called "five leprous fingers", when all our political elites, the electoral commission, the judiciary and the NASS were jumping upon one another to declare support for "who the cap fits". Yes, we are back there. Noone talks about INEC again. Their independence have sine been stripped, so let us leave INEC.

Interestingly, however, outside our shores, our professionals, be they physicians, finance experts, engineers and even judicial officers are regarded as smart, intelligent and bold. Back home, they are intimidated into puppetry by illiterates who happens to hold political powers. Sp you do not need to dig deep to understand why a justice or judicial officer can be intimidated into hero-worshiping an agbero. Therefore, it is not out of place that we see what is going on in Nigeria today. A country blessed with abundance human and material resources, yet in LETHARGY. A country where mediocrity rules over excellence, where the rule of law is lampooned on the alter of impunity. Our national psych is pooh-poohed on just because our checks and the checkers are either fast asleep or hounded into gutlessness or to say the least a state of pusillanimity. What a shame!!!

Hence comes my belief that we can still rescue our nation and our democracy from the pit it has fallen into before the latter becomes a grave and ultimately an abyss. The rescue effort still falls squarely on our judiciary. This time, our esteemed justices of the Supreme Court. While, I for one would sympathize with the justices of the PEPT, noone will forgive the justices of the Supreme court for not righting the wrongs. Why would I say this. The PEPT justices were definitely under severe despair as to ruling against the president. One because, their judgement can be appealed by the president. The intervening period between their judgement and final position by the Supreme court was enough for the president to deal with anyone who rules against him. Secondly, they have seen how many of their colleagues were dealt with or are still being dealt with for daring to challenge APC. I quite understand that the current CJN is a product of President Buhari and APC interference with a separate arm of government, hence his loyalty cannot be in doubt. However the judgement at the Supreme court is not a one-man show.

While not overtly optimistic, I believe that the justices of the Supreme Court have more independence to be objective and fair to the case of PDP and Atiku than the PEPT. Fact is whoever they declare as winner takes it. If they believe Atiku has a case and Buhari is removed, Mr Buhari goes home and can NEVER intimidate any of them as power will change hand immediately. Hence, I advice those celebrating and congratulating Buhari to ... PLEASE WAIT ... IT IS NOT YET UHURU!!

The guy is high on some kind of foreign chemicals.
His theory is flawed, his thoughts are off point and so on.

The judgement was so clear yesterday to avoid things like this but unfortunately, this is Nigeria where people have so many skewed conspiracy theories.

Even the proceedings were so clear that the petitioner never had any concrete evidence to back the bogus claims they had except the hearsays and of course lawyers who couldn't interprete the issues to him.

That being said, Buhari is not helping us at all.
He should either sit up or step down if he truly loves this nation.

Which of the supreme court is that Mr.man? Perhaps, the one headed by one Mr. Tanko sombori, well it might interest u to know that, the country does not have a functional court anymore. What the country now has are mere decorated rooms manned by Hydra headed Judases in the place of Judges & Justices.
