It actually popped up on my screen bro. That's more reason I'm angry cos this is corporate 419. Why didn't the popup message tell me that I'm ineligible.

I think this pop up is general for every customer

The upgrade is not even worth it,just addition of Super sport 5 and 6 for seven days whenever i renew my compact subscrition, and the way they advertise it,you will think the upgrade is for a month.

The big question is this: WHY DID THEY CALL ME TO UPGRADE WITHOUT MENTIONING THE T & Cs?

It's not a matter of court case now. Its a matter of calling them out for deceiving customers with vague promos.
Because the terms and conditions are inexhaustive. If marketers were to explain the T&Cs relating to every product and service offered by their company, which I doubt you'd even have the time to listen, they sure would not attend to 3 clients in a day. It is therefore the duty of a customer to review the terms and conditions relating to a product or service he is purchasing or making payment for. The company can only be held liable for your loss where there was no full disclosure either on the product manual, company's website or any print media.

Have you ever read the terms and conditions on a bank's account opening package? The day you do, you'll withdraw all your money, dig a hole and leave it there.

@fratermathy It is quite unfortunate that you got scammed by a company that promised to live above board in terms of ethics and integrity. It is a shame that not only are fraudsters involved in fraud, the so called corporate entities are overtly guilty as well. We must continue to expose them. If you are a victim of scammers, please, send their info to info@securitymattersafrica.com(phone numbers, names, etc). I will forward it to the EFCC. Enough is enough. Hello Nairalanders,

I actually purchased a new DStv decoder last month. It came with one month free Compact bouquet subscription. Towards the end of the subscription earlier this week, I received a call from a DStv marketer (01 280 6877). I was asked to upgrade to a Compact Plus bouquet for N10,650 in order to get double upgrade to the Premium bouquet. Since I wanted to resubscribe anyway (I actually wanted to maintain the Compact bouquet), I decided to do the upgrade and pay the extra in order to get the premium channels.

I paid the money and went ahead with the upgrade, believing that I was going to get the premium channels. After 48 hours, I was yet to get the upgrade and I sent an email. My email was not replied. I decided to call the customercare to make my complaint. The agent that spoke with me then told me that the promo is not for me as my account was only created in September. I queried her on why the company's marketer called me for a promo that I was ineligible for without mentioning it. When I got the message about the offer, it wasn't explicitly mentioned that it was for old customers ONLY.

My anger now is that I was essentially deceived by the company and their marketers to upgrade even when I did not want to. I do not actually need a Compact Plus (it's virtually the same with the Compact, apart from new sports content which I don't need). I only upgraded because I wanted to access the premium bouquet. I expressed my dismay to the customercare agent and told her that the company had tricked me. The extra money I spent is not the issue but the thwarted expectations that I had. I promised the agent to call out DStv for this blatant misuse of advertisement.

I have also tweeted @DStv, @DStvNg, and @DStvCare on this issue and have not gotten any response. I am bringing the issue here on Nairaland so that all Dstv customers or potential customers can know of the deceptive tactics DStv uses in its advertisement. Before you deal with DStv, make sure you ask them to tell you ALL the clauses because they won't tell you. All they need is your money so they don't care about consumer rights.

I will also forward my complaint to relevant regulatory agencies as well.

IF YOU HAVE CHANCE GO TO THEIR OFFICE AND COMPLAIN.....

How many channels do you watch.

Just let it be, since you actually wanted to subscribe before...

I only watch news, and blitz. And live football.

My kids watch Jimjam, Disney jnr.

My wife watch zeeworld, African family and Rok 2.

Las Las, every other station or most station for DStv na junk.

No vex.

@Bolded No No. It is the kind of attitude that is dragging Nigeria through the mud.

I had the same experience with DSTV earlier this year too. I got an email saying, making payment before so-so date and get one extra month subscription. I called their customer care to confirm, the lady said assured me that i would get it once i made payment. Only to make payment, thats when the stories began.

That is just pure fraud on the path of DSTV, they are liable for any information passed through their official channels.

Another "Only in Nigeria Anything goes" scenario. In a non shithole business environment, the marketer is supposed to introduce himself, his employee ID and location he is based. Then point you to where the offer is online, so he can answer any questions from you, based on that. Also on agreeing to the package , he is to remind you there would be no penalty if you cancel the package within the 1st 30 days if dissatisfied after which a prorate comes into play... Your not getting the extras is enough reason to cancel, the csr you spoke with should have just apologised, credit you days you were without or didn't get the service, offer to activate it while on phone or process a refund of your money but ...
In Nigeria, businesses don't care, their word is nothing. There is no service agreement just an arrangement that assures they get paid, service delivered or not

That's the problem. Reputable companies shouldn't randomize promos. Besides, when they called me, they mentioned my name and knew my bouquet.

They get away with their anti-customer policies because Nigerians don't speak up or report them.

If everyone calls them out, they'll start to behave.

I have also been scammed by DSTv that I should upgrade and get the Premium Package. That was last two years. I wrote a stinker to them, they responded that I do not qualify as it was a raffle and not an automatic reward. I warned them never to call me again even for genuine rewards. I didn't subscribe for 3 months as a result of that anger.

I understand your pain but I'll advice that you let it go and downgrade back to compact once your subscription is over.

My guy welcome. By now you should know DSTv gimicks when it comes to promos. Don't depend on them for anything. If you see fine, on not ignore their existence. I have learnt that. Especially the customer care agents who call to remind you to renew subscription. I had to tell them off years ago that it's not their business if I renew or not they are only interested in my payment.
Apart from Investigation Discovery and C&I. ( Crime & Investigation) channel, I don't care about them. I hear I can get these two channels on Kwese but I'm yet to confirm. I have decided never to be hooked on awoof. I usually renew before my expiration but something told me to wait till the last two days of my package. DSTv bullshit is going on because they are a monopoly. There should be am anti Monopoly law in each sector of private business in Nigeria
i doubt it.

Then that customer care agent need to be queried as soon as possible. His or Her carelessness had made a customer to subscribe for a service that he shouldn't have.
