The constant shouting of 'Africa' 'One Africa' has very little meaning to me. It's largely meaningless, quite embarrassing, cringeworthy and borderline irritating.

Building friendships, peace and extending a hand of partnership across nations and continents is worthy. But we must build our individual nations. I honestly don't feel any more connected to someone in Ghana, Mali or Sudan that I feel for Inuits in the far corners of icy Canada. My goodwill extends to all good people of the world.

Shouting one Africa all over the place means what exactly. Even within Nigeria, we barely tolerate one another. I notice it's musicians mostly shouting and screaming this one africa stuff.

Now they are holding a so-called one Africa event in every continent, but the so-called Africa. Just makes the black man look a fool.

Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its as if you just peered into my soul and wrote everything i wanted to say!!

Small thing u go dey hear Wizkid say " African Girl".. WTF does that even mean? Do we even know what it means to be an Hausa man, an Ijaw person let alone a Mauritanian?
Burna Boy's "African Giant" was so fucking cringey to me (not the content tho, great music)... like can't you just be a "Nigerian Giant" foggossake?
why must we always shout Africa? you hardly find these White people shouting "European Music" or "Amerivcan Giant" or any of that nonsense.

Its just another example of the subtle inferiority complex down here...

The reason is greediness, lack of self confidence and lost of identity. All the organizers have in mind is the money they're going to make and share among themselves. It's not about promoting Africa and her rich unmatchable culture. It should have been the world over coming to Africa soil to see for themselves that Africa is the best race in the world and not Africa taken themselves to them as a cheap prostitute.

My assumption is if it held in Nigeria OP won’t attend the event. He/she opened this thread for attention. Somebody else explained it better: the show is an export of our music. We already have a big audience in Africa. What we need is a more racially diverse collection of listeners hence the show taking place around the world instead of Magodo and Ajegunle.
The day Jesus said it is finished I knew he was referring to your brain, so because the OP may not attend the show if its organised in Nigeria means he mustn't talk about the senseless choice of its location.. I think the organiser need to change its name to PAUL.O MusicFestival instead of AfricaMusicFestival cause once it called Africa then it must be in Africa not Arab Land.
Now back to you, I think ur parent needs to go back to your school principal to take back all the school fees they have spent on you

This is an opportunity for Africa to showcase its culture and tourism, it being rotated around African countries yearly would be a show worth looking upto in coming years.

at the same time build that connection between Africans, aswell as show the world Africa is not all that the International media may portray it to be.

This is an opportunity to showcase Africa, build employment, build commerce, encourage African travels, build tourism etc... but Africans would always be Africans.

Why name the show African music Festival and not hold it in an African country.

If you dont promote your own, how do you even think the world would regard your own.

My 2 cents..
Nigeria can’t generate the profit the organizers need

I'm sorry you feel this way.

I think, more than any other continent, there is a shared history among Africans, a history that recollects suffering and conquest in very recent memory. Continuously reiterating it is not 'nonsense' (again, I'm sorry and very sad you term it this way) but my identity is closely bound to that kinfolk than the 'oppressor culture'.

And being proudly African, as well as Nigerian, or Ibibio/Yoruba/Kanuri etc are not mutually exclusive. Each step, you are drilling down to the essence of your identity, and it all starts from humanity in common.

So, if aliens invade tomorrow, for sure I will pick up weapons and fight for humanity.

Actually, it is a right question to ask.

What, i think is that most shows like that are either sponsored by some black men who still hold pride in the African race. Literally, they are from their root as Africans but as part of the Black race, they are welcome.

Most times, the organiser might even be a white guy in collaboration with some Africans, as a businessman, they can only seeks for maximum profit and suitable for them...

Maybe as times goes they might retrace their step that, such event are meant to be held in an African country....... Rather the "African" should be replaced with "Black".

Africa has no value. That is why Putin and other world leaders will organize a summit and call it an Africa summit but still host it in their own country instead of coming down to Africa for it and Buhari and his fellow stupid African leaders will spend their scarce resources to go there and still buy the product of the host nation.

Africa don have any self respect and they keep confirming that they are indeed a shithole.
Re: Why Is The AFRICAN Music Fest Holding In Dubai, Newyork and London? by ykalhaji(m): 12:44pm On Nov 15, 2019
The 1st Job of an artist is to make money through his/her craft. The ticket prices to attend this One Africa concert are around $80 to $200 other than South Africa most average fans in Africa can't afford this, only your cousins in the diaspora can.

Nigeria is a very small market and growth potential is very limited, but Africa is a bigger market so once these stars get to a bigger stage, they have to champion Africa because they make more money and gain more respect by other African nations.

Well if you are so vexed about them taking one Africa to neutral grounds outside Africa, take heart, Davido and Wizkid always have their yearly end of the year concerts in Lagos, so it isn't that they don't showcase Africa in Africa it is just a case of showcasing in different places for Africans in the diaspora and non-Africans who love their music but not willing to pay an extra $2,000 for plane tickets & hotel, to go through Corrupt official at airport, zero infrastructure just for a one day concert.

You sef reason am does it make any sense

Haven't we been seeing and even have almost every aspect of our culture and tradition replaced by those of western cultures ranging from food, dressing, health care, etc. Yet never had the americans nor germans come to africa to host a culture festival, they simply use technology and media to show us this things. So why cant we just do it here in africa and use the same technology and media to furking ahow it to the world.
This excuse of going there showcasing africa is just lame. The target should be "africa first" emphazises shouldn't be doing it to show the western world, it should be first to build bridges between africans and integrating our core believes and values first. As well as learning to look inward amongst ourselves and believe we have all it takes to be great.
Whatever we want in africa, I tell you we can achieve it if we realy, truly want to have it, is it weaponry, education, techs and gadget, road construction, minerals and natural resources, we can if we want to because we have ao many nations within africa and if one does not have it the other will furking have it.

Hmmm
You are right. I totally agree with you. Thanks for showing me the other part.

Am sure the BBN last season held in Nigeria had more impact, more reach out and local contribution to Nigeria..

No matter how we may dislike Africa, we can not change being African.
That was why it this year's own was hosted in Nigeria

Seriously, though, it is aimed at the "African" diaspora....
Which includes non-African blacks and people not born in Africa.

Meanwhile, it's not mutually-exclusive to hold these abroad as well as in Africa...
There are already music festivals in Africa, but if you think one more is needed - HERE IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY!

We should quit b*tching about every perceived 'challenge'...
And instead see it as an OPPORTUNITY to fill such perceived vacuum, and/or create/build what we desire!

Following your line of logic...
Why "Nigerian Giant" then? Why not "Port Harcourt Giant" or "Ahoada Giant"? shocked

I just don't get the xenophobia and reductionist of many Nigerians/Africans...
The ONLY difference between being Nigerian and other African nationality is arbitrary happenstance!

There is is nothing sacred about being 'Nigerian'....
Because Nigeria as a sovereign "unit" distinct from its neighbours was decided in Berlin by Europeans.

A Yoruba in Nigeria has more natural commonality with a Yoruba in Benin Republic...
Than with an Hausa-Fulani in the North, who has more natural commonality with the Hausa-Fulani in Niger or Chad.

Africans should NEVER be limited by the acts or narratives of others...
Time to seize our own destiny and write our own narratives - and if you're content to do it with Nigeria, others dream BIGGER!

At the end of the day, what you preach and what these folks are doing are NO different...
You are trying to build cohesion among 250+ ethnicities, while they dare to dream BIGGER and build among several hundred.
