I am sure I'll be speaking the minds of everyone on this thread when I say you are entirely right.

We all agree and want to learn the hardware (embedded systems) alongside the programming.

I agree that even the so-called programming many "experts" deploy is based on already existing libraries.

Now there is a good reason for that (such as: global standardisation... we have not seen the last of that yet...more discussion on that is coming).

Yet is is true that local content is best driven when we can actually build from ground level. Perhaps that way we can have our own "standardisation".

However to be fair, on this thread, there truly have been comments on embedded systems and hardware development and even IOT (in the first two pages). What must have caught the most of your attention is the retinue of comments such as ...."I am currently learning python..."

It only shows the skill gap we really and urgently need to fill-up.

The reason the centre I am setting up is called ROBOTICS and AI is that we are not just developing AS for the sake of the financial and marketing sector only. On the contrary, we are looking to deploy AI for Robotic systems, i.e. hardware systems to support infrastructure, agriculture and other needs. IOT is definitely a key component.

The workshop at the centre is specifically for Product Development.

Your comment was timely and beneficial. Kindly share with us how (hardware or software) you would be able to intervene, and in what capacity. Just so we know what background you are coming from.

I am a first year student of the department of Electrical and Electronics dept (UNIBEN) who is intrigued by the topic of this discussion in a nutshell I am fascinated by anything tech,
I plan to major in electronics/controls and if all goes according to plan specifically industrial robotics /machine learning.
I have been doing alot of research on my desired field of study and skills I need along the line as a result I am into python already ,Sir @cacawa2 seeing what you have achieved so far you have ignited the flame in this young man's heart ,more power to your elbow .

All these data scientist, data engineer, machine learning engineer are all very different and involve different skill sets so I wanted you to clarify on that inorder for him to understand you.

Yes it is. Late last year the FG approved the establishment of a national agency for robotics and AI, so we are getting there.

But there is sufficient global interest in this, and although we live in Nigeria, we need to tap into that global atmosphere.

Is this something you are into already or are you planning to go into it?

I've been following this thread albeit silently.

I seriously admire your earnest desire in helping to foster AI and Robotics education and practice in Nigeria and breed the next generation of talents in that sphere.

I almost gave up seeing the many people here with so much experience and know-how under their belts. Imposter syndrome almost got the better part of me.

Please I'd love to be a part of this program nonetheless. I noticed that there's a scholarship available for indigent individuals who cannot afford to pay for the program.

I wanted to know what other criteria would be considered to be eligible for the scholarship asides graduating with a first (experience? etc.), and which tracks of the program the scholarship applies to.

I have basic knowledge of Python and C and am currently taking some courses to further bridge the knowledge gap.
